Just watched this and thought it was a really good film. It gets a lot darker than expected though the film does change tone throughout, difficult to describe as one single genre, and didn’t go the way I thought it would.

Thought Carey Mulligan was great in it, hope it gets a wider release especially after the Oscar nominations, so more people get to see it. Interested to hear what others think!

I really loved it. It felt fresh and different. Carey Mulligan was amazing in it and her rage felt cathartic! I loved the black comedy of the parents' house and the fact that you never knew quite what was coming.

And also, despite the fact that Carey Mulligan's revenge MO didn't feel too realistic to me (the succession of guys she went home with), I liked the fact the film concentrated on the "good guys" and their part in rape culture.

It's on Sky Cinema from Friday but I expect it'll get a cinema release here so I'm going to wait until cinemas reopen next month to see it.

Yeah I watched it a few weeks ago, we have a pal that has ways of getting things.

Enjoy is maybe not the word I would use, but I found it interesting. I like how it focused on the 'good' guys as well as the arseholes. And the scene with the Dean gave me chills as a parent.

I'm not sure I like the ending. I feel they could have been brought to justice without the main characters death, but I guess it wouldn't have had the impact it did. I hope it gets a wider release as more people need to see this film!

Just finished watching this and wondered if there would be a thread for it. I really enjoyed it and thought Carey Mulligan was great. I was really hoping she was just unconscious and would suddenly come to. Would have been good if she could have been around to see justice for her friend, however, revenge mission accomplished with the ending being a big 'f**k you' slam dunk.

Yes, just watched it, excellent. Like others wished she had come round.. Ryan, what a let down Sad Imagine, he was actually at the wedding ShockHmm Sound track was brilliant also.

How could Ryan who seemed to care about Cassie so much acted the way he did.

Just finished watching with DD (15). Excellent film that feels vital. And particularly relevant what with all the current discussions around women’s safety/rape culture.

Carey Mulligan was outstanding. Was like a punch to the stomach when Ryan turned out to be just as bad and I was really hoping he would do the right thing in the end. And yes the conversation with the Dean made me sick to my stomach and really demonstrated internalised misogyny at its worst!

Just finished watching. About half way through I was thinking it was thought provoking but lacking somehow. And then it wasn't!
As there are spoilers already.... I loved how Ryan was portrayed /played. As a pp said, the movie really focused on the good guys, and he was the ultimate good guy until he wasn't.
It's a powerful movie, subtle in places and over the top in others. Some unlikely coincidences, but I actually got over those because the ending was so.... Satisfying is maybe the wrong word... But the ending will stay with you. It's a timely movie, a movie for women in this time.

It was amazing! I've been watching interviews with the director and a lot of thought went into it and it was totally worth it. Best film I've seen in years.

Carey Mulligan is so good in this. I really found it fascinating. I’m thinking back on my “youth” and unpleasant experiences that happened to me and friends, and processing some of the messages in the film in a different light. The ending was very satisfying in some respects because it was the only way she was unfortunately ever going to get revenge.

On a side note, why is Alfred Molina not credited in the cast?

Just watched this. Really good film. About 45 minutes from the end I was wondering what else could happen to keep it going but it took another turn and very clever.
I also wanted her to be playing dead but I think the whole message was stronger in the way it ended.

I watched it this evening on Now TV and had tears running down my face by the end. I loved the black comedy and joyful bits juxtaposed against the horrific 'nice guy' narrative. Casey Mulligan was amazing in it.

Sadly there's a lot of NAMALT on twitter about it already 🙄

I wish the end was different but I think that's because I loved the character and wanted her to get her happily ever after, like normally happens in films.

A real rollercoaster of a film.

I suspected there was something untrustworthy about Ryan when he said he was still in touch with Al from med school. I wondered why Cassie didn’t question it.

The unexpected turn of events in the closing act was quite a shock, and while it may not be what the audience wanted to happen, you have to admire Emerald Fennel in going ahead with it. A bold move and if it had been the “happy” ending wouldn’t have made such an impact. I certainly think it’s created more of a talking point.

What does NAMALT stand for?

I was cheering for her character every time she fucked somebody up Grin

She is all of us in a way. Loved that scene with the builders when she stared them down. Two hours prior to watching the film, I took my dog for a walk and changed the direction I was going in because a blokey looking guy was parked up blocking the road and talking to another blokey guy. Just knew that walking past would invite commentary one way or the other on how fuckable I am/am not. Honestly, we all have these tiny moments every day.

Loved seeing somebody stand up to it.

Upshot it's a misogynistic response to male crime.

It ignores the statistical likelihood that violence against women will be perpetrated by men.

What do you mean @derigeurmortis?
I thought the scene in the bachelor party was particularly and deliberately shocking.
It was the only actual violence in the movie and it was so violent. Not like action scene stylised movie violence, but real and slow and horrifying.
I wondered if the director deliberately didn't show any of the men reacting violently, so that when it finally happened the impact was even greater?
And it also kept the movie away from gratuitous voyeuristic violence which you often see perpetrated against women in movies

Yes, I can imagine this movie will make alot of people very defensive.
