Favourite old classics?

DD16 and I have been watching the odd movie together (loved the chance to spend time with her!) and she really enjoyed Gentlemen Prefer Blondes and Singing in the Rain.

Obviously lots of outdated stereotypes in these films that's she's more than aware of but she loved the music, fashions, comedy and wonderful dancing.

Any favourite old movies that we could add to our list? Smile

I like Audrey Hepburn so maybe Funny Face.

They are all pretty Hmm on the sexism front.

I have just bought An American in Paris, not seen it.

I like An Affair to Remember, Brief Encounter and Breakfast at Tiffany's for non-dancing ones.

I watched Casablanca with ds11 this afternoon which was enjoyable but took a lot of explaining as he just didn't know enough about WW2/visas/the resistance/Morocco to understand it all!

reprehensibleme · 07/02/2021 17:33

Hitchcock, African Queen and Casablanca.

Whatever Happened to Baby Jane ... bonkers, nail-bitingly tense and amazing acting from Bette Davis.

Oh and the original Secret Life of Walter Mitty (for the sublime fashion show sequence if nothing else)

Imissthegym · 07/02/2021 17:39

Other MGM musicals like On the Town, Good News, An American in Paris, High Society, Anchors Aweigh etc... Fred and Ginger and Doris Day ones are good too.

Comedies like Bringing up Baby, To be or not to be, the Philadelphia story, Adams Rib.

Hitchcock, vertigo, strangers on a train and rear window are my favourites. So many good ones.

Romantic - Brief Encounter, Casablanca, Marty, Now Voyager.

I rewatched From Here to Eternity the other day and really enjoyed that.
