The type that doesn't sound great in its synopsis but turned out to be brilliantly entertaining, moving, hysterical. It's probably British. Definitely understated.

I'll offer Marvellous with Toby Jones

Babette's Feast.

OP, I love Marvellous. Such a happy film.

If anyone is looking for a quirky family film, we’ve just rewatched Box Trolls, and love it as much as ever.
These trolls are in no way related to the singing rainbow trolls.

Regarding Henry with Harrison Ford and Annette Bening - watched it earlier and thought it was rather lovely.

Thank you for the recommendations. I’ve just added loads onto my Netflix list. And just watched and enjoyed Juliet, naked.
I was going to suggest Japanese film Our Little Sister but it doesn’t seem to be on Iplayer any more.

After Hours (Scorsese's 'forgotten' film). Just brilliant.

As a pp suggested the Snapper, my offering is another Roddy O'Doyle called The Van. Great fun

Palm Springs, a kind of Groundhog Day film released last year. Very funny and extremely clever, best film I've watched for a long time.

I watched Puzzle the other night - Kelly Macdonald, lovely Irrfan Khan & lots of jigsaw puzzles. Enjoyed it.

Cinema Paradise, Palme d'Or winner, not the awful Directors cut. It's completely lovely.

I was going to watch Sightseers as a result of reading this thread but realised I had already seen it (and yes is good) - but noticed the next film on Netflix list was:

“Take Me’

definitely a quirky little gem of a film (though is American not British!) - enjoy!

Another quirky little gem (in the ‘moving’ category) is:

“Theeb”

(Classed as a British film - won a BAFTA and best director gong at Venice and is quite brilliant!)

Just watched The Dig on Netflix. The Jersey Potato Peel Pie thingy is another. Not very much happens in either but they're pleasant enough to watch without blood, death and vicious sexual assault being 'essential to the storyline'.
