Anyone seen this or planning to ?
The reviews are "mixed" to say the least .

But the trailers look ok ( though usually all the good bits are in the trailer and the film is just padding)

There's a twist ...........no spoilers !

Saw it yesterday and I really enjoyed it!
I laughed, cried and loved it.

SecondaryBurnzzz · 26/11/2019 06:46

I loved it - expected it to be crap - but thought it was really good. Lovely filming of London too.

Loopytiles · 27/11/2019 07:37

Not bothering until is available to rent online, read the plot synopsis and disliked it a lot!

Loopytiles · 27/11/2019 07:37

I do love a romantic, festive film though.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 27/11/2019 22:09

What I liked:-
Emilia.
Emma. Especially the accent.

What I didn't like:-
The twist (clicked about 10 mins in)
The weird sauerkraut guy
That the sisters relationship was uncannily similar to Fleabag and her sister (they even got the sister to look like her)
The frankly bonkers rose tinted view of homelessness

ilika · 27/11/2019 22:54

Christmas reminds me of a fairy tale. It's a good family holiday.

AnAngryElf · 28/11/2019 09:05

Saw it last night. I thought it was funny but easy humour does get me. Predictable sure but still an easy, light hearted watch and it got me feeling Christmassy!

My favourite bit was "lesbian pudding" 🤣

Deadringer · 29/11/2019 09:20

I had very low expectations so wasn't disappointed. I went with my dds in an effort to get in the Christmas mood. It starts off very slow and tbh it wasn't as funny as I expected but my dds loved it. As for the twist I guessed that from just watching the trailer.

thatmustbenigelwiththebrie · 29/11/2019 18:57

I just saw this.

Some of the dialogue was so awful I had to hide behind my coat and I found the lead guy insufferably annoying. But there were some genuinely funny bits.

IDontDrinkTea · 29/11/2019 19:00

This may be the worst film I’ve seen in a long long time

Metheven · 02/12/2019 18:02

It really was very bad. A shame, because I normally take no notice of critics, but in this case they were right.

SecondaryBurnzzz · 03/12/2019 08:15

Simkin Sat 16-Nov-19 20:49:57

I loved it! I wasn't expecting to because the reviews were so bad but I really did. The twist is fine but the overarching message about kindness and multiculturalism is bloody wonderful. And loads of great female characters too.

What Simkin said.

incognitomum · 11/12/2019 23:24

I really enjoyed this and wasn't expecting too.

I cried which isn't like me.

blue25 · 11/12/2019 23:28

It’s toe curling. Just awful.

TheSubtleArt · 12/12/2019 00:17

I was not expecting to like it one tiny bit after reading this thread and some online reviews.

Loved it and I'm not embarrassed to admit it!! A good old cheesy Christmas movie.

SecondaryBurnzzz · 12/12/2019 19:35

I loved that:

  • it showed areas of London I love like the Phoenix Gardens, Brick Lane, Covent Gdn
-there were normal people living in flats, and 1970’s houses, -people cycled and got the bus too. I also appreciated that it showed our problems like racism, homelessness, bike accidents It was a bit mad in places but I really loved that in the end she fixed herself.
GinNotGym19 · 12/12/2019 19:42

I thought it was awful, plot weird and all over the place.
My mum loved it
Complete marmite film!

Pilcrow · 16/12/2019 13:02

It's pretty terrible. I took my teen niece because she was visiting and really wanted to see it.

Although, having said that, I found myself thinking it wasn't quite as bad as I'd expected...until I suddenly realised what the twist was Grin

I had to laugh inwardly at the London bus driver patiently sitting waiting at the stop until Emilia Clarke had finished her big scene with the hero - as if! Oh, and the Covent Garden Christmas shop she worked in....after squeezing in through the tiny door she walked into an interior the size of the entire piazza. I guess they were gambling that nobody had ever been into one of those tiny shops where two people can barely stand next to each other.

WhatchaMean · 16/12/2019 13:05

To me it was cheesy, cringy and a bit meh! I wouldn't have walked out but I wouldn't really recommend it either. Emilia Clarke's face just annoyed me throughout it, and her awful singing Confused

Faez · 16/12/2019 18:49

I have 10 mins to decide whether I'm going to see this tonight.. only costs a fiver and how bad can it be Xmas Confused

Lifeinaplasticbox · 17/12/2019 22:09

I have just seen it and really liked it. The only thing I was disappointed with was the song at the closing titles, i know it’s not really part of the film but couldn’t they have found a better song to finish with

Freesunglasses · 19/12/2019 17:07

I went last night and had no idea what to expect, i didn't guess the twist at all.
I was a little bored at first but then got into it more. I didn't love it but neither did I want to leave half way (unlike yesterday) it's a perfectly fine film.

My friend commented.on how cheerful all the homeless people were, as if! I volunteered with the homeless and they are actually (mostly) rather cheerful.

MrsElijahMikaelson1 · 19/12/2019 17:12

Love GM so loved it for that.
I laughed and cried so all good for me💕

rookiemere · 19/12/2019 19:27

I went to see it last night, and granted my critical faculties were diminished by a glass of wine, but it wasn't as bad as expected. I definitely enjoyed it more than Love Actuallybut then that was a gawd awful pile of nonsense. One critic gave it a C- and that feels about right.

Horsemad · 22/12/2019 01:14

Saw it last night, hadn't seen anything about it.

Quite enjoyed it, great soundtrack and London looks so lovely with the Christmas lights everywhere.

A nice feel good Christmas movie. 🎄🎅☃️
