Sitting in the cinema with Ben & Jerry's wishing the adverts would finish.

Oh god poor you my mum is dragging me there next week. How come you've had to go?

Rachelover60 · 13/09/2019 16:06

I really want to see Downton.

Toddlerteaplease · 13/09/2019 17:16

Loved it!

Bit entirely sure how Mary and Anna's children became strapping toddlers, in less than a year after their birth though!

I can't wait!

Toddlerteaplease · 13/09/2019 17:43

I loved it! A delight from start to finish. If you're a fan of the TV programme it's just a really long delightful episode. If you're not a fan you might not enjoy it as it's so gentle - even the dramatic parts are really tame. I banned DH from coming with me as I knew it would be easy to mock. But for me, it was fabulous 😀

Tarchie · 13/09/2019 21:14

I banned my DH too as he would have sat there joking around whilst I got my Downton fix! But DD and I loved it, a nice, gentle, easy watch and it made us wish it was still on tv.

Robin2323 · 13/09/2019 21:25

Been waiting to watch this on the big screen.
Really enjoyed it.

StylishMummy · 13/09/2019 22:07

Absolutely loved the film but cried at the end Sad

Toddlerteaplease · 13/09/2019 22:47

It was unexpectedly really funny. I think I had some dust in my eye towards the end though.

Really looking forward to seeing it again with my friend next week. I went to the first screening st my local cinema this afternoon and there were only about a dozen people there. Everyone was audibly shocked at one if the storylines. It took me about 20 seconds to work out that She was the daughter!

I really enjoyed it. If you are a fan you'll enjoy it.
I loved the Barrow story line, although not sure how accurate it could have been ...

Davros · 13/09/2019 23:10

Although I know there is plenty wrong with the series, although I've always enjoyed it, I loved every minute of this. Yes, it was very funny and moving. There was clapping at the end in our highly cultured art house cinema and I joined in Shock the two big glasses of wine may have helped. I would see it again tomorrow

Saw it tonight with DH, we absolutely loved it. Lovely break from binging Mindhunters on Netflix this week.

I have hated Thomas over the years but then I felt so sorry for him when he tried to "cure" himself. His storyline tonight brought a happy tear.

I hope they consider another one, I think they could take this as far as WWII.

I went yesterday aft with DD; we were the youngest in the cinema. Couldn't believe how many 60+ year-olds discarded their trays of Nachos and Costa cups on the floor.
I apologised (loudly) on their behalf to the young girl holding out an empty bin bag at the exit.
Anyway, loved the film; it was gentle, comforting and indulgent, just how it should be. Daisy had grown in confidence and Lady Mary looked completely stunning throughout.

Toddlerteaplease · 14/09/2019 10:24

Lady Mary's blue dresses were absolutely stunning and I loved Edith's head piece. Loved that Mary and Edith get on better. Mary calling Edith a 'devious cat' was hilarious. The age of the kids still annoys me though!

Was I the only person seeing massive red flags about Andy's jealousy?

OP posts:
Aprinceinapaupersgrave · 14/09/2019 12:05

No, I was hoping Daisy would give him the push. Princess Mary's relationship was also one that needed to end. Anna should not have spiked the chef's tea. I still enjoyed it though!

Toddlerteaplease · 14/09/2019 12:50

Loved how Tom had no idea who she
Was. I don't know if the relationship was that unhappy in real life.

According to their son it was a happy marriage .

No - it's only a movie story line .

Princess Mary's relationship was also one that needed to end

And Princess Mary's marriage was really like . It was an arranged marriage and he was horrible. But she lived a life of "duty" so the marriage was never going to end.

I just don't get why people watch a movie set 100 years ago and then think the characters should behave like we do today.

ShippingNews · 14/09/2019 13:14

"was really like that "

JapaneseBirdPainting · 14/09/2019 14:31

I also saw red flags. And Daisy thinking his jealousy was 'romantic' because it proved how much he loved her. very troubling tbh.

Wished Matthew Goode was in it a bit more!

Robin2323 · 14/09/2019 16:53

Super red flag. Anyone messed with my hot water would be In Serious trouble.
