This threads probably been done before..
But anyway..
what's your all time favourite film? Something that you would go back and watch again? Even if it's a strange one. My all time favourite is Shawshank redemption.. I know, I know! I've been asked why because everyone else seems to think it's boring but I honestly love it. I'm going on maternity leave soon and know I'll end up wanting to watch films when I'm bored. Hopefully I can look at this thread when I'm struggling for a film to watch! I'll take your word for it that it's a good film!

I was unprepared for this question, but you have made me really think..... I love the sound of music, it’s such an upbeat classic.
I also love calamity Jane, and I loved the young ones.
Blimey, all my favourites are musicals, ooohhh and Annie. But hey, they are all the best.

So many suggestions that I've not seen and so many that I've watched but definitely need to watch again! Goodnight Mr Tom is one of them I forgot about that film and so many of you have mentioned it and it's made me realise it's one of my favourites too so I tried to find it to watch yesterday and couldn't find it online to watch anywhere 😢

The Jazz Singer. The one with Neil Diamond.

OooErMissus · 11/08/2019 10:20

I'm not very good at films.

I can't follow plots, miss crucial info, get lost and inevitably doze off. So I have a few that I love so much and enjoy re-watching.

Some Like it Hot
Gone with the Wind
Pulp Fiction (given the switching between story lines and back and forth in time, I have no idea how I managed to connect with this one so much)
Before Sunrise
Sound of Music

Honourable mention:
Shawshank Redemption
Dirty Dancing
Four Weddings & and Funeral
I Walk the Line

Utter trash, but love it:
Bring It On

Impossible to have just 1 !!

I loved Shawshank but can't handle the brutality these days.

Dog Soldiers for it's originality, black humour, jump scares (and Sean Pertwee)
Brief Encounter
Independence Day
Any 'Alien'
Steel Magnolias
Jaws
Deep impact
Armageddon
Robin Hood P.o.t
Truly madly deeply
Best exotic marigolds hotel

I better stop!

haverhill · 11/08/2019 11:16

I forgot The Ladykillers (original).

TheRedShoes75 · 11/08/2019 11:21

Broadcast News because I can completely relate to Holly Hunter’s character.

HearMeSnore · 11/08/2019 11:28

For ages mine was Shawshank as well, but now I think it's been overtaken by The Martian.

cookiechomper · 11/08/2019 12:09

I don't really have a favourite film, I have a few I'll watch again but it depends what mood I'm in.

OccidentalPurist · 11/08/2019 16:32

Mine has got to beTitanic.

I actually went with a large group of friends to see a different arty film that was sold out on the night, so we all begrudgingly saw Titanic as it was showing on three screens and was the only one left with tickets available!

I wasn't looking forward to it at all, but from the opening bars of music I knew it was going to be really something. I even got so caught up in the love story that, until the iceberg appears, I'd completely forgotten that the boat sank!

I don't think I've had an experience in the cinema like it before or since and I went on to see it about ten times over the subsequent two years.

I watched it again recently with my DD12 however and was surprised at just how corny it seems now, so I think it must have something to do with spontaneously seeing something that epic on a huge screen with no expectations.

The Shawshank Redemption has actually aged much better and the acting is outstanding in that.

OccidentalPurist · 11/08/2019 16:45

Also the original Arthur with Dudley Moore (apparently this is also Zoe Ball's favourite)!

The first half hour of this film, when he drunkenly picks up a hooker and tries to pass her off as a princess in a posh restaurant, is the funniest thing I think I've ever seen on film - I can quote almost all his lines.

I recently watched it with my DH and DCs and they were crying with laughter!

Spudina · 11/08/2019 16:54

Impossible to choose one. I can't watch Life is Beautiful since having own kids, but it is amazing.
Mine are:
The Divine Secrets of the Ya ya sisterhood
Ghost
Pretty woman
Dirty dancing
Topgun
The Goddather (one and two)
My Neighbour Totoro
Shawshank
