I've got some of DD's friends coming over for Halloween - they are all 13. What would be an appropriate scary movie to show them? They have all seen Miss Peregrine's House, Coraline, Nightmare Before Xmas which would have been my suggestions.

Have they really not seen ANY scary films? At 13 I'd be very surprised.

Mine had seen Coraline at 11 and Nightmare Before Xmas isn't Halloween-ish at all!

I'd be looking at something a bit scarier but I appreciate some kids have nightmares.

Why not do a Ghostbusters night? They can watch the original and the new one?

If they want an actual scary movie but not gory, something like Signs or The Sixth Sense. Mine's 14 and has watched both versions of IT...she's not given to fancy or nightmares though.

Is this the wrong thread to say that my DD has loved all the ‘scary’ Tim Burton films since she was about 7? :)

I watched Nightmare on elm Street when I was 11

Why don’t you ask them what they want to watch cos I’m sure they will have seen loads that you think they haven’t.

ShatnersBalloonFromPennywise · 21/10/2018 09:19

The Woman in Black is pretty scary.

ElizabethinherGermanGarden · 21/10/2018 09:30

The Woman in Black is really scary!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 21/10/2018 09:34

Poltergeist is good I think. Scary but no gore.

AdamNichol · 23/10/2018 09:39

Sleepy Hollow

SeaViewBliss · 23/10/2018 09:41

I’m 47 and I’ve barely watched a scary film!

I couldn’t even watch Goosebumps!

Annandale · 23/10/2018 09:42

Do warn the parents, even at this age. Not permisson, but just let them know. I would have been in pieces if id watched nightmare on elm street at 13 or now

Sixth Sense?

AceAcer · 23/10/2018 10:27

Annandale - I will ask them definitely. Don't want terrified 13 year olds on my plate keeping us up all night!! I like the idea of the Sixth Sense. It was rated 15 here but was PG13 in the States.

6th Sense is really quite dark. The image of the little girl who died of cancer constantly vomiting has stayed with me and I'm quite hardened! And isn't one of the ghosts bleeding or deformed facially somehow?

AdamNichol · 23/10/2018 12:54

6 And isn't one of the ghosts bleeding or deformed facially somehow?
There's the one who took the shotgun blast to the back of the head.

Tim Burton stuff is (deliberately) a bit hammy so avoids genuine scare

SleepingStandingUp · 23/10/2018 12:56

How about the Scream ones or Final Destination? I'm a bit out of touch with 13 yo tho

AdamNichol · 23/10/2018 13:13

Lost Boys?

Frosty66611 · 23/10/2018 13:16

The first Goosebumps movie that was out a couple of years ago?

Blarneybear · 23/10/2018 13:17

None of these. As usual they are all fucking inappropriate for 13 year olds.

Hocus Pocus? The new Sabrina series on Netflix?

Blarneybear · 23/10/2018 13:18

Edward scissorhands

Creepyexgirlfriend · 23/10/2018 13:20

Agree with Blarney. Let them watch Hocus Pocus. Or Watcher in the Woods.

HippyChickMama · 23/10/2018 13:26

Ds(11) has watched Lost Boys, Beetlejuice and Jaws and was fine with those.

AjasLipstick · 23/10/2018 13:29

Scream is a good idea. They'll think it's retro.

INeedNewShoes · 23/10/2018 13:31

Edward Scissorhands is a good suggestion. I'm sure this was a 12 when it was released?

Blarneybear · 23/10/2018 13:50

Scream is a 15 and I wouldn't be happy at all if I knew parents had laid that on.

bumblebee39 · 23/10/2018 13:54

Carrie

Very retro and also a bit jumpy

Could do an 80s theme?

Ghostbusters etc.

Annandale · 23/10/2018 13:57

Sorry about Sixth sense Blush

Ghostbusters or edward scissorhands sound better.

Carrie petrified me aged 48 though at least no nightmares these days.

autumncolour · 23/10/2018 14:03

How about a 50's horror themed evening i.e. 3D glasses, selection of b-movies and lots of popcorn?

Orlandointhewilderness · 23/10/2018 14:23

I wouldn't be best impressed if my 13 year old was shown sixth sense or nightmare on elm street!
