Following on from the recent thread about favourite actors from old films, @FatBallsAndSunflowerSeeds had the fab idea of an old movies appreciation thread... So here it is! If you like old films and actors of any kind, come and join us.

We thought we'd look out for any classic films being shown on TV, post them on this thread and then discuss them afterwards... But if you want to post about any of your favourite old films and actors at any time, that would also be fab. Basically, this is just a place to chat about old films - please come and join us!
I'm off to check the TV schedules for any potential gems coming up - I will post again with anything that looks good.

Hi Halsall yes I've been distracted by tennis as you know, but I'll be back to old films soon. Although having said that, I'm actually just watching Whiskey Galore! at the moment - a bit random and far too late for me these days, but I'm wide awake so might as well put it to good use!
Thanks Jemima yes it's a beautiful film. I only saw it for the first time a few months ago thanks to a recommendation on this thread.
My film-viewing has been annoyingly curtailed by various things going on recently (ie everyday life 
). I need to block some time out for viewing! I've still got Carve Her Name with Pride to watch.
I noticed when I was at the cinema with my DS not long ago that Kind Hearts and Coronets is having a big screen re-release - this was at Vue, not sure if it's just there or at others as well.
It's probably been and gone now but thought I'd mention it.
Popped on here (not been here for a bit)! to say I streamed Strangers on a Train last week in the hot weather. It suited a humid night. It's an old favourite of mine and I still enjoy it. Plus Pat Hitchcock has a small role in it and she's great!

I've not been over here myself for a while, with pesky real life, tennis and far too many superhero films distracting me. (Hence the name change.)
I haven't watched an old film for a while because of all this (ok, I might have squeezed in a couple of Basil Rathbone Sherlocks ) but...
Blithe Spirit is on Talking Pics today at 4.30pm and I have the day off!
Oh The Ladykillers! "Nobody touches Mrs Lopsided" was only going through my head last night!

I've just realised Richard Greene was Robin Hood in the TV series 
And apparently the "needle" line was cut from the cinema version of the Hound, but reinstated years later when it was re-run in cinemas.
I should probably do my research before posting eh, not the other way around!

After i posted that, I listened to the You Must Remember This episode about Monty and Liz Taylor - I don't think I'd ever heard that one before. Well worth a listen, it's about their relationship/friendship and also about his life and awful car accident/death

So many tragic tales in old Hollywood - sometimes I prefer to just focus on the films.
Has anyone seen Judy yet? I haven't, although I was/am planning to, but not sure if I'm in the right frame of mind tbh.
Not seen Judy yet. Saw Singin in the Rain in the cinema last Friday night!
