Because reading 50 books and running a marathon isn't enough for me, and I love a good list, I've decided to challenge myself to watch 25 new films this year.
I'm going to use this thread to record what I've watched and whether I liked it. Please feel free to join me and share.
I want to watch at least half these films at the cinema. The rest I will either watch on dvd or on Netflix/Amazon.
I'm off to watch The Darkest Hour this evening to kick things off. Reviews look good so expectations are high! I'll be back later to record my inane ramblings thoughts.

15. Lion
Brilliant, as the PP says, the first half is probably stronger than the second half but I was a tear-stained mess by the end.

16. Gatsby
Beautifully shot film. Sumptuous is a word they would probably use in a newspaper review. I felt there was an element of seediness in the book that wasn't in the film - because all the sets, costumes and actors were all so beautiful. Watchable, if slightly overlong.

13 Beast set paradoxically on the sunny island of Jersey this was a dark modern retelling of the beauty and the beast story. Fantastic acting from the two young leads and very cleverly done.

14 The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Society an enjoyable film about the effect of the German invasion of Guernsey on the lives of an unconventional book club. Charming and heartwarming.

This was really good. I went into it with no real idea what to expect and just found myself really enjoying the ride. My only complaint would be that Martin Freeman isn't particularly well cast,

This was thoroughly enjoyable. Great to see all the characters together. Don't watch it as an introduction to the Marvel cinematic universe though. If you haven't seen most of the previous films, none of it will make any sense!

  1. 17 again - the kind of corny body swap caper I have enjoyed over the last 30 years. Prime
  1. Tarzan. Only one reason to watch Aleksander. New take on an old story. I liked it. Sky

  2. Time runners. Great premise terrible everything else. Especially the first scene. Prime

  1. The Big Sick - very real romcom.

  1. Guernsey... Society, nice undemanding film
  2. A Quiet Place, too many plot holes but not bad, did jump in a few places
  3. Beast, claustrophobic thriller, well acted
  4. Deadpool 2 - very funny brain out film.
  5. That Good Night - John Hurts last film. Not bad but could have been better, elderly writer seeks way out of life.
  6. Lord of War - Netflix, a Nicholas Cage film I actually liked - dark comedy about gun running.

Just remembered about this thread!

I'm up to at least 18

Peter Rabbit - not as bad as I thought it would be! My youngest DD loved it

Dunkirk - wanted to see it for a long time and thoroughly enjoyed it. Stunning cinematography and Mark Rylance was great

The Mountain Between Us - very different to the book. Didn't enjoy it much at all

Thor Ragnarok - absolutely brilliant!

Avengers Infinity War - enjoyable enough but far too much going on. Loved Thor with the Guardians of the Galaxy characters

Blackkklansman - amazing film! Probably the best I've seen this year.

FrustratedTeddyLamp · 28/09/2018 23:42

Just saw this thread ive done 25+ in the last few months at the cinema. Aiming for 50 by january.

ladymarian · 22/10/2018 22:46

19 Black Panther - I was really disappointed with this one. I love most of the Marvel films but I didn't like this at all. Not what I expected

20 While We're Young - a sort of indie film from a few years ago with Ben Stiller and Adam Driver. Great little film, funny and thought-provoking with great performances from all 4 main characters

21 Beauty and the Beast. Finally got round to watching this! Not as good as I hoped it would be. Nowhere near as good as Cinderella from 2015

ladymarian · 07/11/2018 13:17

22 All the Money in the World - I was interested to see how it turned out after the last minute re-shoot without Kevin Spacey. I read the book over the summer. Good film
23 The Snowman - the film of the Jo Nesbo book. Gory ( as is the book) but I enjoyed it. Michael Fassbender was good in it (I think he's a great actor)
