Because reading 50 books and running a marathon isn't enough for me, and I love a good list, I've decided to challenge myself to watch 25 new films this year.
I'm going to use this thread to record what I've watched and whether I liked it. Please feel free to join me and share.
I want to watch at least half these films at the cinema. The rest I will either watch on dvd or on Netflix/Amazon.
I'm off to watch The Darkest Hour this evening to kick things off. Reviews look good so expectations are high! I'll be back later to record my inane ramblings thoughts.

Hello, I'd like to join...
So far I've watched:

  1. Ferdinand
  2. Molly's Game
  3. Pitch Perfect 3
  4. The Greatest Showman
  5. All the Money in the World
  6. Darkest Hour
  7. Hostiles
  8. Coco
  9. 3 Billboards
10. The Commuter 11. The Post 12. Jumanji 13. Downsizing 14. Maze Runner: The Death Cure

I have an unlimited card so try and see as much as I can.

I'll update and review as I watch more.

@DearMrDilkington MLP Movie was ok. My girls enjoyed it! I prefer some of the Equestria Girls movies though as I like the songs! The Boss Baby and Moana were 2 kids films I really enjoyed last year (and so did the kids!).

@HoundOfTheBasketballs The Dark Tower books are good, but there's about 7000 pages! Hope it's not too much of a spoiler to say, but the ending is very disappointing!

NewYearNiki · 29/01/2018 17:35
  1. Downsizing

Again very dull.

CherryPie13 · 29/01/2018 22:43

Downsizing was a missed opportunity as the idea of it was brilliant but the story was dull.

  1. 12 Strong - I enjoyed it. Some of the dialogue was a bit cringy (US army in Afghanistan after 9/11 in an attempt to bring down Taliban).
NewYearNiki · 30/01/2018 00:00

I was going to see 12 Strong this week. Is it good?

SoleBizzz · 30/01/2018 00:05

I have seen Darkest Hour and loved it. This year I shall continue to.try to watch a movie at the cinema most weeks. I am watching more a d.more subtitled films. Yesterday I watched 'Winter Chill' starring Kristen Scott Thomas on BBC iPlayer. Very good.

HoundOfTheBasketballs · 30/01/2018 10:34

Gah! I've just booked to go and see Downsizing tonight! I knew I should have checked this thread first! Grin

OP posts:
NewYearNiki · 30/01/2018 10:43

It is worth seeing but there was no real story.

Just wow we are small. The same problems and corruption exists in the small world so it changed nothing.

NewYearNiki · 30/01/2018 16:05
  1. Maze Runner: Death Cure

Enjoyable but for gaping plot holes.

CherryPie13 · 30/01/2018 22:31
  1. The Shape of Water

Amazing film! Utterly beautiful. Sally Hawkins and Richard Jenkins are wonderful.

SoleBizzz · 30/01/2018 22:32

I like Sally Hawkins and want to watch The Shape of water

Lokisglowstickofdestiny · 30/01/2018 23:21
  1. The Island (Netflix). Enjoyed the 1st half, 2nd half dissolved into a standard chase movie.
  2. The Damned United (DVD I purchased ages ago), even if you don't like football this is an enjoyable film. Michael Sheen as Brian Clough during his short tenure at Leeds United.
HoundOfTheBasketballs · 31/01/2018 00:19

I loved The Damned United, Loki. Although I love Michael Sheen in most things. He is one of my favourites.
I saw a trailer for The Shape of Water tonight. Wasn't quite sure what to make of it.

3/25 - Downsizing.
I agree with the others on this thread about this film. A good idea, poorly executed. Saying that, it wasn't what I was expecting either and I loved Christoph Waltz in it.

  1. Coco Cute but a bit syrupy. Too many near misses that just got ridiculous.
Lokisglowstickofdestiny · 04/02/2018 22:17
  1. The Post - Tom Hanks (love him and pray he never gets revealed as a Hollywood pervert - that would devastate me) and Meryl Streep. I had no idea about the story they were trying to decide whether to publish. It was a bit slow for the first 20 mins but then got really quite gripping.

hound I've seen the trailer for A Shape of Water a few times now - not sure about it - all I know is if I do go to see it I'll be on my own, DH distinctly not interested!

afrikat · 04/02/2018 22:29

7 King Arthur - absolutely hilarious (not sure it was supposed to be??)

CherryPie13 · 04/02/2018 22:31
  1. Den of Thieves

A steaming pile of shite. Gerard Butler was awful and a caricature of a cop. 50 cent mumbled his way through it.

NewYearNiki · 05/02/2018 17:37
  1. Journey's End

Oh god. How brutal and depressing. Sad

HoundOfTheBasketballs · 06/02/2018 09:34

It certainly doesn't sound like a barrel of laughs Niki. Sad
Was it good though? The cast looks pretty strong.

OP posts:
NewYearNiki · 06/02/2018 11:47

The cast was strong and very poignant in parts.

But the whole film is them waiting in a trench for the big attack going through all sorts of personal hell.

I dont have to tell you the outcome for all of them it being WWI. A million people died between March and November 1918 so
....

NurseButtercup · 07/02/2018 08:16

I've seen three billboard of Epping which I thought was brilliant. I'm patiently waiting to see black panther next week. I'll come back and share thoughts. I'm going to have a look at the list of what coming on IMDb to share the films I'll try and see this year - hopefully there's at least 25 Grin

Lokisglowstickofdestiny · 07/02/2018 20:08

Nurse I'd like to see 3 billboards of Epping Smile. I'm looking forward to Black Panther, trailer looks brilliant. I'm debating whether to go to see Phantom Thread, I wasn't convinced by the trailer but reviews are good.

NewYearNiki · 09/02/2018 17:02
  1. Fifty Shades Freed

Where do I start.

2 people in a marriage who have nothing in common but kinky sex and even then.....he uses bondage and bdsm as a punishment when she defies him.

It was horse shit

🐎💩

sakura06 · 10/02/2018 22:02

Has anyone seen 'Status Update'? It looks terrible, but I'm seriously considering seeing it hoping it will be daft fun!

I've added at the cinema:

  1. Call Me By Your Name (loved it; Timothée Chalamet was brilliant)
  2. Darkest Hour (great acting; am a bit fed up of Churchill though).
sakura06 · 10/02/2018 22:04

I also cannot wait for Black Panther! Eagerly anticipating Lady Bird too.
