On March 26, a group of Mumsnetters and their guests were invited to attend an exclusive screening of Smurfs: The Lost Village in central London. Attendees and their DCs were not only given the chance to see the movie, but also to meet the characters themselves, and enjoy movie snacks and activity sheets.

Here is a short synopsis of the film, which stars Demi Lovato, Meghan Trainor and Gordon Ramsay: “A mysterious map sets Smurfette and her best friends Brainy, Clumsy and Hefty on an exciting and thrilling race through the Forbidden Forest filled with magical creatures to find a mysterious lost village before the evil wizard Gargamel does. Embarking on a rollercoaster journey full of action and danger, the Smurfs are on a course that leads to the biggest discovery in Smurf history!”

The film hits UK cinemas March 31 2017:

What was your favourite moment in Smurfs: The Lost Village?

Having watched the smurfs as a child, I liked seeing how Smurfette was created and the original backstory.

~ What did your DC think of the film? Did they find it funny? Exciting?

My kids found it riviting and love that there is a 'baddie'-Gargamel.

~ Having met all of the Smurfs, which one does your DC remind you of most?

Definitely Clumsy smurf-nothing is safe near my son-lol!

~ Would you recommend Smurfs: The Lost Village to your fellow Mumsnetters with younger DCs?

I would recommend it because it was fun, adventerous and had some jokes that adults could apprecite. Even if you have no knowledge of the smurfs, you would still find it enjoyable.

~ Who was your DC’s favourite Smurf and why? My son's favourite smurf is Hefty Smurf because he is strong and he wants to be like him.

What was your favourite moment in Smurfs: The Lost Village? We liked when the flowers were catching them and popping them out.
~ What did your DC think of the film? Did they find it funny? Exciting? My 2 boys really enjoyed it and there were squeals of laughter through it
~ Having met all of the Smurfs, which one does your DC remind you of most? My eldest son would be brainy and the youngest one would be a cross between Hefty and Nosy smurf!
~ Would you recommend Smurfs: The Lost Village to your fellow Mumsnetters with younger DCs? Yes - It was a lovely animation and my two really enjoyed it
~ Who was your DC’s favourite Smurf and why? My eldest liked Smurfette (he has an eye for the ladies already) and the youngest liked Hefty as he trains like him

Thank you for the opportunity to come and see the film. My only gripe is that you specifically stated no children under 3 so I left my 2.5 year old at home with their dad but there were quite a few toddlers and younger children there which made me sad that she had missed out as she would have really enjoyed it.

What was your favourite moment in Smurfs: The Lost Village?

My kids and I loved everything about it! It was a very entertaining movie with an important message about solidarity.

~ What did your DC think of the film? Did they find it funny? Exciting?

My kids found it funny, scary and adventerous.

~ Having met all of the Smurfs, which one does your DC remind you of most?
My kids remind me of smurfette and greedy ( he never stops eating-lol!)

~ Would you recommend Smurfs: The Lost Village to your fellow Mumsnetters with younger DCs?

Yes I would- I think it can be enjoyed by all.
~ Who was your DC’s favourite Smurf and why? Brainy

Sadly we were one of the last in the cinemas and none of my children got a goody bag or a hat. The organizers also had none available which put a damper on the experience although we were very grateful to see a wonderful film with such a positive message so thank you.

We had a really lovely morning. Great comfy seats at the cinema too. My children are 8 and 10.

~ What was your favourite moment in Smurfs: The Lost Village?

My favourite part was the beautiful animation in the Forbidden Forest. My son's favourite part was when Papa Smurf goes to Smurfette's house to talk to her and my daughter's favourite part was when they met all the new smurfs.

~ What did your DC think of the film? Did they find it funny? Exciting?

They really liked it, my 8 year old has a learning disability and often gets a bit bored watching films and asks when it is finished but he sat transfixed the whole way through.

~ Having met all of the Smurfs, which one does your DC remind you of most?

My daughter would be a cross between Brainy and SmurfMelody whereas my son would be a combination of just about all of them!

~ Would you recommend Smurfs: The Lost Village to your fellow Mumsnetters with younger DCs?

Yes, it was really enjoyable. Beautiful animation, funny and exciting, but be prepared for a few tears near the end although, as usual, all ends happily ever after!

~ Who was your DC’s favourite Smurf and why?

My son liked Papa Smurf as he was really sad then happy at the end ( difficult to explain without giving away the end) and my daughter liked Smurfette as she was true to herself.

Thank you, we all had a great time.

What was your favourite moment in Smurfs: The Lost Village?

In general I loved the gender balance of the movie-equal numbers of male and female heroines! he eye-popping visuals, funny one-liners, and randomly placed songs from my generation was fun. My favourite moment was when compassion was shown to Gargamel and Areal when they were going down the waterfall and the smurfs helped them despite being enemies.

What did your DC think of the film? Did they find it funny? Exciting?

The film was so colourful and has so much going on such as gushing waterfalls, brightly coloured flowers, rabbits. It was great. My DC's were entertained throughout! They also enjoyed the introduction of the new female smurfs and there was never a dull moment with the smurfs being on an adventure the entire time.

~ Having met all of the Smurfs, which one does your DC remind you of most?

Since my DC has broken may things, I would have to sadly say clumsy. But-he has lots of endearing qualities!

~ Would you recommend Smurfs: The Lost Village to your fellow Mumsnetters with younger DCs?

I think this is a great film for younger DC's there is always something going on, the animation and colours are splendid and there is never a dull moment so they will be constantly entertained. Mine certainly were.

~ Who was your DC’s favourite Smurf and why? I loved Papa Smurf-he is the voice of reason and was voiced by my favourite Homeland actor, Mandy Patkin.

thanks so much for inviting us. Sadly we were some of the people who were unable to get a goody bag, smurf hats but it didn't detract from our viewing experience.
