On March 26, a group of Mumsnetters and their guests were invited to attend an exclusive screening of Smurfs: The Lost Village in central London. Attendees and their DCs were not only given the chance to see the movie, but also to meet the characters themselves, and enjoy movie snacks and activity sheets.

Here is a short synopsis of the film, which stars Demi Lovato, Meghan Trainor and Gordon Ramsay: “A mysterious map sets Smurfette and her best friends Brainy, Clumsy and Hefty on an exciting and thrilling race through the Forbidden Forest filled with magical creatures to find a mysterious lost village before the evil wizard Gargamel does. Embarking on a rollercoaster journey full of action and danger, the Smurfs are on a course that leads to the biggest discovery in Smurf history!”

The film hits UK cinemas March 31 2017:

NC'd because of pictures :)

First off I wanted to say a big thank you to mumsnet for the tickets, DS had a great time and loved the smurf toy. We didn't get a hat but he didn't notice that others had them so it was all good. The popcorn was also a lovely treat - it was too salty for DS but I managed both bags...

Favourite moment: the river/waterfalls sequence
DC thoughts: DS loved the movie, he always does enjoy the cinema and this was engaging and easy for him to follow. The end sequence, when it appears that Smurfette has died was a bit much for him (he's four). I tried to quietly reassure him but he was shaken and close to tears even when it was revealed that she was ok!
Most DC like smurf: I think clumsy. Oh and that one that wouldn't stop talking!
Recommend: definitely. I particularly liked the way that it was easy to follow the plot even without having seen the earlier films/knowing anything about smurfs AND it was short enough, and engaging enough to not be boring for adults too :)

SmurfyNC · 30/03/2017 20:32

Can't add pictures for some reason :/

~ What was your favourite moment in Smurfs: The Lost Village?

When they escaped from gargamel

~ What did your DC think of the film? Did they find it funny? Exciting?

DS 11 found it funny and exciting (his words)

He says he's like Jokey

~ Would you recommend Smurfs: The Lost Village to your fellow Mumsnetters with younger DCs?

DS jumped in a couple of places but wasn't distressed. He's a young 11 as he has ASD but maybe it wouldn't be suitable for very young children

~ Who was your DC’s favourite Smurf and why?

He didn't have a favourite but he thought Clumsy was very funny

DS gave it 5/5

He didn't get a goody bag but did manage to bring a poster home which he was very happy with and absolutely loved the cinema it was shown in.

What was your favourite moment in Smurfs: The Lost Village?
There were quite a few best moments. One of them was when Papa Smurf was trying to apologise to Smurfette after grounding them. He went into her house to find she wasnt there, then went into Brainy, Clumsy and Hefty's rooms and found 'dummy' smurfs under their duvets.
I also enjoyed the interaction between Gargamel and his cat Azrael.
What did your DC think of the film? Did they find it funny? Exciting?
Both my sons watched it, they are 7 and 5. They both enjoyed it. My youngest has already said to all his friends he wants to see it again during the Easter holidays with them! They laughed at bits.
Having met all of the Smurfs, which one does your DC remind you of most?
My eldest reminds me a bit of Brainy and Hefty. He is quite clever but he is also doing incredible human strength things like lifting his brother up and doing the plank for 3 minutes!!! I can't even do 2 minutes!
My youngest son reminds me of Brainy, as he thinks he knows it all!
I think I would be nosey as I'm always asking them questions!
Would you recommend Smurfs: The Lost Village to your fellow Mumsnetters with younger DCs?
I would recommend it. Having seen the previous Smurf movies, and not really enjoying it, as it was a mixture of acting and animation, my expectations weren't the greatest.
But, I thought this was a great movie. It was well thought of, not too girly (that was a bit of a concern) and had good humour throughout. The characters weren't boring and had many layers to them (e.g Papa Smurf wasn't just a wise old smurf, he was also funny and quite modern in his approach "You're grounded").
Who was your DC’s favourite Smurf and why?
My eldest like Brainy because he was clever and my youngest liked Hefty because he was strong.
Please also add your star rating for the film, using the box at the bottom left of the screen.
I would give it 4-5 stars Star Star Star Star

My favourite moment was when the discover the 'Lost Village' and then there is a montage to Eiffel 65- Blue!

My DCs both thought it was pretty funny! (My 4 year old got a bit bored in places but loved all the action/comedy scenes!)

My youngest DD is definitely a mix of Clumsy & Smurf Blossom and my eldest DD like Smurfette! They say I am like Smurf Willow!

Yes I would recommend it to other Mumsnetters with young DCs. It is soooooo much better than the awful live action Smurf Movies that have been made before!

My DCs likes Smurfette, Smurf Storm, Smurf Blossom, Nosey, Brainy and Clumsy..they could not pick just one!

Unfortunately my DCs did not get a goody bag each but some lovely lady gave us a spare Smurf and someone else gave us face paint, so thank you so much to those Mums! :)

What was your favourite moment in Smurfs: The Lost Village?

My favourite moment was when Smurfette cam back to life, I don't know if it was the tiredness of getting up so early or having no breakfast but the moment got me quite teary so was glad when it ended well. My dd love dit when Clumsy kept falling over, she laughed out loud a lot at Clumsey.

What did your DC think of the film? Did they find it funny? Exciting?
My dd found the film funny and it did hold her attention throughout.

Having met all of the Smurfs, which one does your DC remind you of most?
Clumsey reminded me more of my dd as shes always falling over, dropping stuff etc but she said to me she is more like Smurfette as she has blond hair like her!!

Would you recommend Smurfs: The Lost Village to your fellow Mumsnetters with younger DCs?
I found the baddie more funny and silly than scary so I think the film would still be suitable for younger children. My dd did comment though that the film felt long!!
The only time my dd got uncomfortable was when she thought Smurfette had died, but she normally gets like that when there is sad things on films! She cant watch Lion King at all!!

Who was your DC’s favourite Smurf and why?
My dds favourite smurf was Smurfette, because she said she was the only girl at first.

Thank you so much for a great morning, the activity sheet went down a storm and kept her busy when we went for the Mothers day meal later on that day,the hat she gave to her guinea pigs to bury in and we painted her face blue as soon as we got home. Thank you!!

Thank you Mumsnet for choosing us to view the film. It was great start to Mothers day!

•What was your favourite moment in Smurfs: The Lost Village?
When they found out who ruled the “Lost Village” – trying not to give too much away!
•What did your DC think of the film? Did they find it funny? Exciting?
My son found the film really funny, laughing at all the jokes and left the cinema with a happy grin.
•Having met all of the Smurfs, which one does your DC remind you of most?
I would say Brains, always trying to be right.
•Would you recommend Smurfs: The Lost Village to your fellow Mumsnetters with younger DCs?
Yes, I would recommend Smurfs: The Lost Village. Animation was great, not too many scary bits and a storyline for children to understand. I would say that adults would also enjoy the humour. Although, before watching the film, I thought it was another installment of the Smurf film (eg with actors), but enjoyed watching the animation as it reminded me of the original Smurfs on the telly!
•Who was your DC’s favourite Smurf and why?
Brains, as my son has just started to wear glasses and it has boosted his confidence.

My son really enjoyed the viewing and loved his smurf goody bag!

Thank you Mumsnet

What a great way to spend Mother's Day! The venue was fabulous and meeting the Smurfs beforehand made it so much more exciting. The details such as the water and popcorn (and other surprises) on the seats were much appreciated, making us feel special and spoilt. But the best bit is that we also really really enjoyed the film! It was beautiful to look at, similar to The Trolls film in being so colourful and eye-catching, and full of fun and adventure. There are lots of funny bits for kids, but also many humorous references for adults to enjoy. I much preferred Gargamel as a cartoon in this film rather than a real actor as has portrayed him in the previous two films – it's more in line with the original TV series, so I was really happy to see that. The film tackles the whole Smurfette thing, i.e. why is there only one female Smurf and what is her 'purpose', and my only criticism is that this theme is slightly clumsily handled, coming across as trying too hard and ending up over-simplifying. However, that aside, there are some really touching moments and we all shed a few tears as well as chuckling alot along the way.

My girls (9 and 7) adored the film and enjoyed every second. They are big fans of the Smurfs anyway, but this has definitely sealed it! I definitely would recommend Smurfs: The Lost Village, I think all kids would thorough enjoy it as it has such universal appeal. My elder daughter loves Smurfette and my younger daughter loves Clumsy, but if I had to say which Smurfs they remind me of the most, I definitely have a SmurfBlossom and a SmurfLily :)

ishallconquerthat · 06/04/2017 11:40

My 2 DC loved the film and the event! They are 6yo and 4yo, and now they have been talking about Smurfs, reading about them, and watching the old cartoons! (and playing with the Smurfs dolls we brought home!)

I liked the film as well. It gets better as the story unfolds, definitely! So, parents, fear not!

My boys stayed quiet for most of the film, and then when it ended they just jumped up saying "I loved it!" (and they laughed a lot with the final credits, with Gargamel reading the credits, so when you go watch the film, stay until the end) ;)

Mintygreen · 06/04/2017 12:19

My daughters enjoyed the film but they found the story line predictable. The graphics/animations are stunning and colourful.

The goodies bags are a lovely surprise and I enjoyed the popcorn very much.

M22kids · 06/04/2017 14:05

Thumbs up all round. My son (9) wasn't keen to see the film at first and said it was for babies, but he enjoyed it and giggled his way through the funny parts. My daughter (7) loved it, and loved her Smurf hat :)

~ What was your favourite moment in Smurfs: The Lost Village?
When all the inhabitants of the lost village appeared. The kids said the lost village was even better than the original one...! And they loved the scenes with the cat.

~ What did your DC think of the film? Did they find it funny? Exciting?
Both children enjoyed it and didn't find it scary at all (they usually find scary moments in every film we see!).

~ Having met all of the Smurfs, which one does your DC remind you of most?
My son - Brainy - as he always wants to look things up and read about them.
My daughter - a combination of Smurfette and Papa Smurf...!

~ Would you recommend Smurfs: The Lost Village to your fellow Mumsnetters with younger DCs?
