Cock up or conspiracy?

Emma Stone says she was holding her card so if it was in the envelope it was a duplicate, why would you do that?????

My favourite meme is the one that blames Putin.....

Ahem - might I direct you to my post of 10.26 this morning: Their instinct is no doubt to check and check when a mistake has been made cover it up, whereas a producer/director/even an sm would just immediately want the trainwreck going on onstage and going out on air to be sorted out and smoothed over

Want2bSupermum DH is an audit partner for a smaller accountancy firm. Besides finding it quite amusing and joking about a speculative tender application to the Academy, his take on this is pretty much the same as yours.

  1. It was the guy's fault- he was too busy snapping/tweeting Emma Stone to do the job properly
  2. Junior female was initially mentioned in order to deflect blame from him as he's one of the bros, didn't work so as he's already been mentioned her head had to roll as well as his.
  3. Never give an audit job to a tax person. Just never. They triple ch3ck anything they get from tax.

My take is that PWC have had this gig for donkeys, it's just become a tradition for the Academy and perk for them. It started, what back i the thirties? The rational then was get someone to tally the votes 1. Accurately and 2. Secretly.

But these days, surely people in e.g. news or live stage production would be a better bet? They'd have ear pieces and fail safes and split second timing. And someone would have noticed Warren going "WTF?" and stopped the trainwreck. Rather than printing gold letters on a red background (difficult to see in lights) and checking out Emma Stone's beaded, bedazzled behind.

Chortled I feel so bad for the female partner. She has been thrown under the bus because of him.

This past year I have had all sorts of equality bull shoved down my throat. The reality is that since January I have billed 70+ hours a week (which means I have actually worked close to 100 hours a week). I have worked every single day since January 2nd and my client filed an extension so I am looking at working through March 15th only to then have a secondary audit of a subsidiary due on March 31st followed by their Q1 review scheduled for filing on April 14th. I also have a second client I am working on which is a broker dealer, having filed one report of their three plus I have already completed their regulatory work. I don't see one male in my peer group with the same schedule as me. There are four females with a schedule similar to mine. When I came back from my leave in September I was given 5 of the most difficult to audit areas on my team, the guys all having much much easier parts to work on. I raised this and I was told these areas are really much more complicated. Really? I struggle to see how that can possibly be the case.

The managing of this mistake by PwC has shown women like myself just how sexist these big4 firms are. The way they have handled it told me everything I need to know and confirmed that I am making the correct decision to leave the firm I have spent the last 5 years building my career. The sexism is real and the female partner was treated like she was there as a token. I am not anyone's token. I can go work in private for more money and less hours plus be respected.

ChortledTheLion · 03/03/2017 16:03

There's lot of Big4 refugees at DH's firm that say similar. His place isn't perfect by any means, but it's a much flatter structure and less cut throat so people have a better balance and are happier. March is always a bit nuts, but DH took a few days off in Feb and will take time off in April to compensate.

This really needs to be handled by people who have lots of experience of live events. For example, Bruce Forsyth would have known what to do and would have handled it with style.
I wouldn't blame the actors, though, as others have said, they are trained to read a script. Shame that Faye read the wrong script, but that was what they were handed.

EY alum here Want2be and Chortled and I recognise everything you are both saying. Leaving public accounting (and I was on the partner track) was the best thing I ever did. The only successful female audit partners at my old office did not have kids. One tax partner did, with a SAHD.

The older I get, the more sexist I realise the world truly is.

PwC should lose the Oscars gig.
