I have to say, I wish I'd never watched The Shining (at a sleepover when I was 14). It scared the pants off me!

Anyone else?

Yes to Something About Mary! Everyone said how good it was but I just didn't find it even vaguely amusing.

Life of Pi. I cried my way through most of this, but I do have form and am unable to watch Lassie Come Home, Black Beauty and anything sad involving animals! I made myself watch War Horse because I felt I should! Many tissues were used!

RedAmberGreen1 · 10/09/2016 21:18

Childsplay. I saw it when I was twelve at a friend's younger brother's birthday party he was nine.) It was rated fifteen, I don't think I'd seen a horror film before, my parents were strict about television - I wasn't even allowed to watch Grange Hill! So I absolutely did not expect the doll to start killing people. It freaked me out for years. I'm still a bit creeped out by dolls now, and I still don't watch horror moves.

More recently Looper with Bruce Willis and Joseph Gordon-Levitt. There were some mutilation scenes, which I couldn't cope with, then a five year old was shot in the face. It was a fifteen... Starting to think I should stick with twelves.

Blue Velvet. Brilliant but so cold I think part of my soul died the night I watched that.

MakemineaGandT · 10/09/2016 21:25

Eat Pray Love

What a pile of self-indulgent self-congratulatory wank

galaxygirl45 · 10/09/2016 21:25

I don't know why, but The Ring really got inside my head and I was haunted by it for days after. My friend was not bothered by it at all but I came out of the cinema in tears and literally didn't sleep that night. I've never reacted to any other film in the same way.

Jacksmum72 · 10/09/2016 21:27

Wolf creek- nasty film!!!😱

DadOnIce · 10/09/2016 21:42

What's "the awful time travel one with Leonardo di Caprio and the coin"? The only time-travel-with-a-coin film I can think of is "Somewhere In Time" with Christopher Reeve and Jane Seymour, and that's from the 1970s. And it's quite good!

PaddingtonFromPeru · 10/09/2016 21:45

Watership Down. Definitely not a film for children.

Frannyboo90 · 10/09/2016 21:46

Did anyone watch the TV drama 'murdered by my boyfriend? I couldn't stop watching it until the end but I cried my heart out, it really affected me, couldn't stop thinking about it for days Blush x

chocolateworshipper · 10/09/2016 21:47

Hostel. I'm a massive Stephen King fan, and love most horrors, but that film just made me sick.

Avatar. Totally over-hyped and waaaaaaay too long.

jamdonut · 10/09/2016 21:49

Nightmare on Elm Street,as a teenager, but more recently, Insidious.

wiccamum · 10/09/2016 21:55

Another vote for Irreversible....just, no.....no
Also the original Ring trilogy, completely terrifying
Woman in Black- I love it, but now I hate turning the lights off downstairs before going to bed, I have to flick the switch and scarper! And I can't look at rocking chairs in the same way 😳

AGreatBigWorld · 10/09/2016 22:03

I saw Woman in Black at the Village Hall and made my friend walk me home. No lights in our country lane. Just as we got to the gate my ex cycled up with no lights and said "Good Evening" My response is unrepeatable! I then made my DP watch it with me two weeks ago and when i had scuttled off to bed he got freaked out because Islacat kept gazing at one spot at the ceiling!!! Grin

Serenitymummy · 10/09/2016 22:03

Haven't read the whole thread but has anyone mentioned Martyrs?! That thing was so utterly disturbing I'm usually pretty cold when it comes to horrors but that nasty shit stayed with me for literally weeks. Vile vile vileness!

seasidesally · 10/09/2016 22:07

Frannyboo90 yes i did,the ironing board part made me seriously emotional

the whole drama i can recall very well, wish i didnt

Libitina · 10/09/2016 22:09

The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas. It's a kids movie/book ffs! I sobbed and sobbed as I had absolutely no idea how it ended. Sad

healthyobsessions · 10/09/2016 22:09

Sinister 1+2

wiccamum · 10/09/2016 22:10

Oh dear, I'm off to see the stage play of Woman in Black in a few days....I'm scared 😱😱😱

cakedup · 10/09/2016 22:15

The Cook, the Thief, His Wife & Her Lover. I watched this at the cinema many years ago and still can't shake off some of the scenes. I do admit it's a good film though!

RachelRagged · 10/09/2016 22:23

The Seasoning House ..
Completely depressing and very upsetting and devoid of any hope the female characters in it . .Horrible and set in the 1980s or 90s I believe in Kosovo or Serbia , never sure where but nasty .

Jankwrs1 · 10/09/2016 22:24

Sophie's Choice. Haunted me for years.

Kjs81 · 10/09/2016 22:48

Tyrannosaur.

I actually quite like bleak films and books, but this was on another level. Started with graphic animal abuse and went on to include just about every depressing issue you can think of. Well scripted and acted, but just left me down for ages after watching it.

Cuddlymummy77 · 10/09/2016 22:50

Hostel

If I was friends with or related to whoever came up with the ideas for that film I would not want to be their friend/relation anymore!!!

How do people come up with such gruesome, sadistic violence?!

I couldn't watch it to the end so never did find out what happened!
Although I can't see how it would be a happy ending tbh :-/

Beccaboo2134 · 10/09/2016 22:53

Coraline!
Me and my daughters were totally disturbed by that film! Meant to be a child's film but it's awful!

AtSea1979 · 10/09/2016 22:53

Sophie's choice. Never cried so much in my life over a film Sad
