Halloween always freaks me out but the one with that makes me jump the most is insidious Grin

I've seen Annabelle and really can't understand what the fuss was? Anyone else feel it was a major let down?

Anyone seen 'Dark Skies'? Scared the bejesus out of me Shock
I watched 'Hush' alone downstairs one night. Very jumpy and the main actress is brilliant.

SarcasmMode · 08/09/2016 16:53

I can't think of one that's scared me.

I don't like jumpy films as I tend to panic with them. Not scared, just unexpected and just pointless!

Some supernatural/stalking type films unnerve me.

Pure gore just bores me. It's just gratuitous.

The Exorcist.

The Ring was really scary, didn't sleep a wink for nearly a day after seeing that.

Heatherjayne1972 · 16/10/2016 09:45

Horror films aren't scary because you always know they're not real
But crime watch - that's scary

jammyjay · 16/10/2016 10:49

I am a total wimp when it comes to horror films! I remember when Jackson's Thriller was released and it was a 3hour thing about it on TV and then they showed the video! I was terrified! Hmm

Talcott2007 · 16/10/2016 12:57

I hate scary movies so generally avoid them - Pan's Labyrinth caught me off guard as I wasn't expecting it to be as horrifying! The thing with the eyes in its hands!!! - I swear recognised it - I used to dream about that thing when I was a child but must have blocked it out - watching that scene unfold was like the worst most terrifying deja vu! Can't even think about it now without actually feeling a bit sick!

nickihardin · 27/10/2016 20:52

The Strangers for sure!

Even more so at the moment.

The Woman in Black and The Ring top my list of scary films. Also a minor film called 'Creep' that was out about 9 or 10 years ago, about the London Underground. That was pretty scary. Not many people seem to have heard of it,much less seen it. Got a idea it may not have actually been released for cinema viewing and went straight to DVD.

charlestrenet · 25/01/2017 19:21

A few people have mentioned Creep up thread Janey. I liked it. Clocked the star in current beeb drama with Tom Hardy as well.

I love a good horror. Some of them transcend the genre and are genuinely fine films. I would include The Shining, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, The Omen, The Haunting, Ring (original) in this. I honestly think that they have artistic merit.

Some shit me up more than others. I got totally freaked out by The Exorcist because of my Catholic upbringing. Sinister I really liked because it was so well paced and had a genuinely shocking reveals. The sequel was shite though.

I like Japanese/Korean horrors because they fuck with your head and stay with you.

Wolf Creek totally fucked me off, partly because of all the lame-brains swallowing the "it's a true story" bullshit but mostly because it was such a lazy horror by numbers (and totally ripped off the screaming thing of Texas Chainsaw Massacre) with the central figure ultimately becoming a parody of himself that was impossible to take seriously.

midsomermurderess · 27/01/2017 19:38

Ring did for me too. Real hair standing on end stuff. I can't bring myself to watch the Badadook, that's how much of a wimp I am.

jdrussell78 · 30/01/2017 08:46

Original Blair Witch Project
The Shining
Paranormal Activity

goingonabearhunt1 · 30/01/2017 12:40

I love horror films, even the bad ones. Not many keep me up at night but a few have creeped me out at the time.

Ring (Japanese version) creeped me out a lot when I first saw it but re-watched recently and not so much. I still think it's an excellent horror film though, very atmospheric. The Grudge (original one again) is also very creepy. I'm spooked out by anything involving demonic spirits and creepy child ghosts I guess! The Korean film A Tale of Two Sisters is very spooky as well. And very sad.

I agree with people who said The Vanishing (Spoorlos), I saw it when I was quite young and the ending really disturbed me even though I knew how it was going to end before I watched it. It's just nasty. I wouldn't watch it again.
