Halloween always freaks me out but the one with that makes me jump the most is insidious Grin

I've seen Annabelle and really can't understand what the fuss was? Anyone else feel it was a major let down?

Oh actually I remember when I was about 7 and watched the Sixth Sense. Oh my god. I had hot sweats I was that scared. I wasn't allowed to watch it but did and you know where you bundle up in your quilt and are that scared? Well it was awful.

GraysAnalogy · 20/05/2016 23:29

Now it's not scary at all, its very sad. But then it terrified me

Iknownuffink · 21/05/2016 00:10

The Daleks in their original incarnation freaked me out.

5BlueHydrangea · 21/05/2016 00:22

The Haunting. Have only seen the 1999 one, that was bad. Didn't know there was another until this thread (so googled it). Will have to seek it out!

Also love The changeling as mentioned here. Bit of a chiller. One of my favourites.
The Fog has some great scary moments although I've watched it so many times it doesn't have the same effect now. And Poltergeist too - although I know all the words now..

Samcro · 21/05/2016 00:23

The Birds
and
What ever happened to Baby Jane

fortifiedwithtea · 21/05/2016 02:12

The Hand That Rocks The Cradle has just been on the telly. I watched it on my own as family had gone to bed. Totally gripping but now I've got the creeps and can't go to bed.

ChipsandGuac · 21/05/2016 02:20

Candyman. That seriously freaked me out.

ChipsandGuac · 21/05/2016 02:22

And although it didn't really scare me, El Orphanato is brilliant. It terrified my son though!

ImogenTubbs · 21/05/2016 04:01

Oculus was very effective. Will also make you scared of mirrors!

And just recently watched Hush, which is more of a thriller, but really good.

Upwiththelark53 · 21/05/2016 07:13

When we were about nine i saw the old classic 'the Pit and the Pendulum' starring vincent Price. The final scene where the girl is locked inside a steel 'box' down in the cellar (you can only see her terrified expression) frightened me to death nearly.

The Fog
The Hitcher
And a film starring Gary Busey. 'Hidder in the House'.
'The Shinning' would have frightened me but before I watched it I saw a documentary about how it was made, so that spoilt the effect.

GetAHaircutCarl · 21/05/2016 08:04

I almost watched The Blair Witch Project again last night, but DH is away so I thought better of it Grin.

theredjellybean · 21/05/2016 10:41

i cannot watch any supernatural horror..literally traumatised for months...so dont or havent watched anything mentioned so far.
But JAWS...omg...i didn't go in the sea for 21 years...only recently got over phobia.
then stupidly watched trailor for the shallows this week....aghhh.......not swiming again ever...

OnceMoreIntoTheBleach · 21/05/2016 10:43

Woman in black. Proper old school jumpy!

LadyReuleaux · 21/05/2016 10:48

Mine are incredibly lame because I'm such a wuss with any kind of horror movie I can only watch the mildest ones.

In the Sixth Sense I literally jumped right out of my seat in the cinema with fright and pissed off everyone behind me.

The other one was What Lies Beneath. I got the heebie jeebies lying in the bath for about a year afterwards in case murderous harrison ford was lying on the floor next to the bath, ready to leap up and get me.

i saw Blair Witch at the cinema when I was pregnant wth DD. I didn't sleep for three nights.

heartonsleeve22 · 21/05/2016 11:29

The cabin in the woods! Bit weird!!

ChipsandGuac · 21/05/2016 14:27

thered I just watched the trailer for The Shallows. That looks like one terrible movie!

upaladderagain · 21/05/2016 18:32

Not a horror fan at all - they all give me the heebie-jeebies. But I did start to watch Shallow Grave. Hiding behind the sofa wouldn't have helped: it was the sound of Christopher Ecclestone chopping up the dead guy that freaked me out. No more horror films ever!

PutAPlasterOn · 21/05/2016 18:36

Sinister - had to stop watching!!!!

SooBee61 · 21/05/2016 19:35

And the made for tv Salem's Lot
Glad someone mentioned this. It's horrifying, despite starring lovely David Soul! James Mason is splendidly sinister. And the part where the dead child knocks on the window whilst hovering outside will give anyone chills.

Also, second 10 Rillington Place. Attenborough is light years from the twinkly cuddly scientist in Jurassic Park in this!

SooBee61 · 21/05/2016 19:37

Harrison Ford could leap up and get me any time he likes! (Well, maybe 10 years ago....) But I much prefer it when handsome stars play baddies, so much more interesting, likewise Richard Gere in Internal Affairs (not a horror film per se but he was pretty horrific).

KindDogsTail · 21/05/2016 19:40

Hush, Hush Sweet Charlotte
The Shining

KindDogsTail · 21/05/2016 19:42

I meant What Ever Happened to Baby Jane with Bette Davis not HushHushSC

Rosemary's Baby is terrifying too.

SooBee61 · 21/05/2016 19:47

However, The Exorcist left me cold. Linda Blair spewing green slime!

PregnantAndEngaged · 21/05/2016 20:22

Orphan! Scary stuff :|
