Halloween always freaks me out but the one with that makes me jump the most is insidious Grin

I've seen Annabelle and really can't understand what the fuss was? Anyone else feel it was a major let down?

OP posts:

The sixth sense, couldn't get off the sofa afterwards.

Lolly12 · 21/05/2016 20:36

Another vote for Blair Witch Project. The ending properly freaked me out.

Autumnchill · 21/05/2016 20:37

Eatinaintcheatin

A film called "the changeling"

That was the one I was going to say, the original one and not the Angelina Jolie one.

We scared my sister by bouncing a ball down the stairs Grin

Gileswithachainsaw · 21/05/2016 21:44

ok as recommended I just watched the last house on the left.

is there something wrong with me....

not scary

AnnieOnnieMouse · 21/05/2016 21:44

That X files one with the woman under the bed haunts me, too. I saw it when it first came out, and have never watched a Horror film since.
The only one that upset me more than that was when I saw Clockwork Orange when it was first released - I was only 18 at the time. It was so new that people didn't know how bad it was going to be. It was removed from distribution not long after, and wasn't shown again until after the owner of the rights died.

flumpybear · 22/05/2016 06:14

I love horror!! The ones that stick with me as horrible include
Wolf creek
Human centipede

Basically because they're sick and could actually happen!!

Nyama · 22/05/2016 08:46

The house of the devil and the Witch are both very good

LadyReuleaux · 22/05/2016 08:54

soobee I also like Harrison Ford but he was really scary in What Lies Beneath!

But on a similar theme I LOVED Robin Williams in One Hour Photo - a comic actor doing really sinister and scary. That was amazing (though not a horror as such)

I have read about the Babadook and how clever it is, psychologically interesting, aesthetically brilliant etc. I'd love to see it - but I just know I can't. I'd be a gibbering wreck for months.

WhoTheFuckIsSimon · 22/05/2016 08:57

What Lies Beneath really shat me up. Saw it at the cinema and properly screamed at one point!

WishesAndPixieDust · 22/05/2016 09:00

Just thought of another pay the ghost! It's the last horror I really enjoyed Wink

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 22/05/2016 10:39

The Hills have eyes. Fuck that shit!!!

ReadyPlayerOne · 22/05/2016 11:23

The Orphange was fine until the sequence where she plays the knocking game with the ghost kids and the camera just keeps panning back and forth in the dark...I had to wake my boyfriend (now DH) up who was asleep beside me as I was so freaked out by it!

We both slept with the lights on after watching The Descent.

We're gamers and both play some very scary games; somehow that's easier to handle as you are in control, rather than watching someone else deal with bad stuff. Unless it's a game where you have no weapon and your only defence is to hide...that's scarier and more stressful than any scary film Grin

SooBee61 · 22/05/2016 16:14

I also like Harrison Ford but he was really scary in What Lies Beneath!
yes but how refreshing to see him being scary instead of the dashing hero who saves the day!

ReturnOfTheJewel · 22/05/2016 16:22

Just googled - the one with the trAp door and the different coloured eyes was called The Pact. Not so much scary as just very odd.

Chippednailvarnishing · 22/05/2016 16:36

Spoorloos (The Vanishing).

The end is completely terrifying...

igotdemons · 22/05/2016 16:50

Giles I agree with you, I've yet to find a horror film that genuinely scared me! I will admit though, I was mildly creeped out when I saw the Conjuring at the cinema for the first time! Looking forward to seeing the Conjuring 2 next month Grin

RubbishMantra · 22/05/2016 17:22

For me , Martyrs. And it's so sad/poignant almost.

For a gore-fest, Frontieres - Sort of a French Texas Chain Saw Massacre.

Eden Lake

Haute Tension/Switchblade Romance

Grave encounters, I think it was being trapped in a place of perpetual night, the layout of the building shifting that made me find it most intriguing and scary.

I just watched Creep, so thank you to poster who recommended it!

RubbishMantra · 22/05/2016 17:33

Return, I have a trap-door cellar, so may give The Pact a miss.

Has anyone seen Begotten? Not scary as such, but v.v. disturbing.

Gileswithachainsaw · 22/05/2016 19:26

the conjuring was rubbish Grin

Cleebope · 23/05/2016 17:14

Wolf Creek and The Strangers- terrifyingly realistic slash horror. Brilliant. Watched It Follows this weekend- much more than a horror movie, am still analysing its symbolism! With Maika Munroe, she's so good. Is The Babadook worth a look then? Must try it. Hush on Netflix is great too!

HyacinthBouquetNo1 · 24/05/2016 18:34

The banshee chapter, arrgh

PetrolBastard · 24/05/2016 18:53

I was made to watch Event Horizon on a come down when I hadn't slept all night.

It was one of the darkest moments of my entire life.

Sleepingonthebus · 24/05/2016 18:55

The Shining. I haven't been able to watch a Jack Nicolson film since then.

ANewIdentitytoJazzItUpABit · 24/05/2016 19:16

The Evil Dead modern remake is good. Try that Giles.

RubbishMantra · 25/05/2016 16:08

Ooh, just thought of another one - Silent Hill.
