There is something really cathartic about a good, sad film.

Any recommendations?

I think I get suprised by slightly crap films. So:
A Perfect World
AI
Meet Joe Black

I haven't read the full thread, so apologies if these films have already been mentioned.

Marley and Me
The notebook
Remember me
Evita (personal favourite, I know all the wordsBlush)
My Girl
Beaches
Stepmom
Toy story 3

Wow, I'm a bit embarrassed.. I could go on.

readyforno2 · 15/05/2016 00:03

Also, I haven't read it. But the fault in our stars (book) made me ugly cry. I haven't built up the courage to watch the film yet

readyforno2 · 15/05/2016 00:04

I haven't seen it... I need to learn to proof read

Empire of the Sun. Amazing film, very teary when I first saw it when I was younger, absolutely bawled my eyes out after having DS - kept imaging it was him.

Pan's labyrinth
Boy in the striped pjaymas

Marley and Me, rips my oh apart. I can only watch the first 80%. Green Mile, can't watch the end. Armageddon is my favourite film and I cry buckets every time. My girls are like 'seriously? you know how it ends'

madamginger · 15/05/2016 00:08

Revolutionary Road - I'm a snotty heap after watching it. The soundtrack really gets to me too.
Up
Schindler's List

Loads more as I'm a softie!

DeathByMascara · 15/05/2016 00:12

The Notebook. Hands down, the sobbiest film ever. Yes, that's a word.

Marley & me too - I've never had a dog but that film made me sob. On a plane. I was just glad it was night & everyone else was asleep.

Youfromthefuture · 15/05/2016 00:17

The ugliest crying I ever did was to The English Patient.

Bavmorda · 15/05/2016 00:17

Saving Private Ryan

DontDeadOpenInside · 15/05/2016 00:19

Oh God I cry at literally everything I watch. Even if I just catch the end and it's weepy I cry. I think it's hereditary, my mum is the same. Hmm

The notebook is a good sob though.

DontDeadOpenInside · 15/05/2016 00:20

I've never seen Marley and me. My kids have. They always cry and tell me how sad it is. I just can't bring myself to do it.

VK86 · 15/05/2016 00:22

Stepmom
When a man loves a woman
Toy story 3 Blush
The notebook
My sisters keeper
Marley and me

TimeIhadaNameChange · 15/05/2016 00:23

Life is Beautiful (funny, but so sad)

Marley and Me (watched at cinema, there wasn't a dry eye in the place by the end, the teenagers behind me were desperately trying not too cry but all failed miserably!)

12 Below - lots of happy tears at the end (first saw it on a plane, cried when the end played on the screen next to me!!!)

UnderTheGreenwoodTree · 15/05/2016 00:24

Terms of Endearment. I cannot watch it now.

Marley & Me - I'm a crier at films but I excelled myself here, by crying the next day too.

Clangersarepink · 15/05/2016 00:29

Jacob's Ladder

justdontevenfuckingstart · 15/05/2016 00:30

under I cried when parked outside Farmfoods classystrikethrough cos oh was watching Marley and texting me about how he was crying and I was crying! That fucking film! We can't watch it now. Too emotional.

UnderTheGreenwoodTree · 15/05/2016 00:39

justdon'teven - it is so moving. Our family's always had labradors. I'm just glad I didn't see it at the cinema, I'd have had to be escorted out I think.

I was also banned from watching Lassie and the Happy Prince as a child. I was never taken to see Bambi, because my mum knew me too well. I've still never seen it.

Watership Down is another to add to the list.

paperdreams16 · 15/05/2016 02:09

Stepmom is my go to film if I need a good sob. I don't think I've ever made it through without crying. "Nobody loves you like I do." "No. Nobody ever will." Oh god, I howl.

The Theory of Everything also makes me weep, particularly at the part with the letter board. Also - The Impossible, Still Alice, A Walk to Remember, My Sister's Keeper, Up, Inside Out Blush

More recently The Jungle Book made me cry Blush blush]

I do enjoy a good cry!

Monkeyinshoes · 15/05/2016 02:30

The Impossible.

No other film has made me cry like that one. Sobbed from start to end and kept bursting into tears for hours afterwards
