There is something really cathartic about a good, sad film.

Any recommendations?

Nothing beats Steel Magnolias. Sally Field loosing it gets me every bloody time. But, conversely, Olympia Dukakas telling her to hit Shirley MacLean is one of the funniest bits of film ever.

My Sisters Keeper, Beaches, My Life, A little piece of Heaven, Marley and Me.

BubsAndMoo · 14/05/2016 22:53

Marley & Me. I cried reading the book first. Probably doesn't work if you're a dog person.

P.S. I Love You
The Fault In Our Stars
Forrest Gump Blush

Fairylea · 14/05/2016 22:53

I just started to watch Room tonight and had to turn it off! I was bawling after the first 20 minutes! ShockWine

Ended up renting the good dinosaur instead to cheer myself up!

BubsAndMoo · 14/05/2016 22:54

*doesnt work if you're NOT a dog person

MrsJayy · 14/05/2016 22:54

Howaboutthisone · 14/05/2016 22:54

Up! I watched it in the cinema as an attempt at a brief distraction from sitting at my grandad's hospital bed. Thought it would be a safe choice. I had to leave to go to the loos as I was sobbing so loudly.
The Jennifer Anniston one with the dog.
One day.
My sisters keeper had me sobbing in book form but not film.

Howaboutthisone · 14/05/2016 22:55

Marley and me- that's what it's called!

YorkieDorkie · 14/05/2016 22:55

Les Mis. Cried a stupid amount!

MrsJayy · 14/05/2016 22:55

Ginmakesitallok · 14/05/2016 22:56

SharonBottsPoundOfGrapes · 14/05/2016 22:56

I watched Monsters Ball recently. That was so sad. The boy who plays Halle Berrys son was so good in that role.

The color purple.
Million Dollar Baby
Precious. Mariah Carey was great.

sparechange · 14/05/2016 22:57

Precious. It is brutal but excellent

Marley and me

sparechange · 14/05/2016 22:59

And Monster. Charlize Theron is amazing

hugoagogo · 14/05/2016 23:00

bearleftmonkeyright · 14/05/2016 23:01

Million Dollar Baby. When Clint Eastwood explains what mo cudhlie means, oh my god I blubbed and cried so much.

MrsJayy · 14/05/2016 23:01

Precious is heartbreaking

APlaceOnTheCouch · 14/05/2016 23:02

I always cry at the montage at the start of Up but for an emotionally devastating animation, it has to be How to Train Your Dragon 2. I sobbed in the cinema.

Otherwise Beaches; Who Will Love My Children? ; It's a Wonderful Life (no matter how many times I watch it).

Finallyonboard · 14/05/2016 23:02

The Painted Veil on Netflix. I cried and cried.

Roobix04 · 14/05/2016 23:02

Armageddon always gets me! And when I was a kid the 90's version of A Little Princess made me just sob and sob!

Bert2e · 14/05/2016 23:03

Truly, Madly, Deeply - sobbed like a baby!

MrsJayy · 14/05/2016 23:04

Oh who will love my children

WyldChyld · 14/05/2016 23:05

The Green Mile, absolutely!! I howl at the film every time... and the book... "like the drink only not spelled the same". Welling up even at that!

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 14/05/2016 23:06

Marley and me. At the end, trust me. You'll sob. It's about the unconditional love you get from a dog.
