Name the most obscure, not well known film you've seen?

Basketball Diaries. I've never met a single person who has seen it and it's one of my favourites. Leonardo Dicaprio and Mark Wahlberg.

Like Crazy, pre Jennifer Lawrence being famous. Low budget and the cast had to make up 50% of the script.

Daydream nation. Stumbled across the trailer randomly on YouTube, decided to watch it. Really odd but turned out quite good.

Has anyone seen Persepolis? It's an animated film about an Iranian girl? It was based during the revolution. It was a beautiful film.

SmartAlecMetalGit · 21/06/2015 21:30

Clueing4looks Suspiria is fantastic!! Last Halloween I went to see a screening of it with the soundtrack performed live by Claudio Simonetti's Goblin. It was absolutely incredible, without a doubt the best gig/film screening I've ever been to!!

LottieMumofWilfJenkins · 21/06/2015 21:33

Just thought of another called The Bridge about an artist called Philip Wilson Steer. My late dad provided all the horses and carriages for the film and taught the cast how to drive the h&c's!

AnImperialAffliction · 21/06/2015 21:33

Four Rooms it's a Quentin Tarintino movie from ages ago - has Antonio Banderas in it too, I love it

ChameleonCircuit · 21/06/2015 21:34

Rocket Boys
When a Stranger Calls

I'm not known for being highbrow. Grin

southeastastra · 21/06/2015 21:36

the big picture with romain duris (google him if you don't know him) effing fab film. the heartbreaker is another of his, really brilliant films (french)

Hushabyelullaby · 21/06/2015 21:36

Chopper - An Aussie movie about a notorious criminal, it may not be obscure but i've not met anyone else who has seen it.

Ginger Snaps - A truly awful movie about 2 sisters obsessed with everything dark and sinister. One of them gets bitten by a Werewolf. All I remember is it being dire and her starting to grow a tail

OttiliaVonBCup · 21/06/2015 21:37

Romain Duris is lovely.
Haven't seen the Big Picture but The Beat That My Heart Skipped was good.

ExcuseMyEyebrows · 21/06/2015 21:38

Bad Ronald Saw it many years ago and it was weirdly enjoyable Confused

nancy75 · 21/06/2015 21:38

I have seen chopper - I am married to an Aussie if that's any excuse!

OttiliaVonBCup · 21/06/2015 21:38

And Molière.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 21/06/2015 21:39

Ooh I love "Harold and Maude" (and Cat Stevens)

Boxing Helena (everyine in the cinema laughed )

I bought "Eraserhead" on video (cost me £££, shite film)

For obscure films I offer

"Yol" ( sub titles, 114 minutes of my life gone)

"Henry, Portrait of a Seriel Killers"

"Taxidermy" (or some similar spelling) weirder than weird

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 21/06/2015 21:41

DH has Ginger Snaps and the sequel Hmm

IndridCold · 21/06/2015 21:41

I've just remembered Celine and Julie Go Boating!! Utterly weird film, and very long.
Tous les Matins du Monde, about a 17th century French composer.

The Lunchbox, a lovely Indian film.

Some great memories here - thank goodness for Curzon Home Cinema Smile.

Hushabyelullaby · 21/06/2015 21:41

nancy75 the bit that sticks with me is when he was stabbed repeatedly and there was so, so, much blood

nooyearnooname · 21/06/2015 21:48

Dumplings - a Korean film about aborted foetuses being used to make dumplings that middle aged women ate to reverse the aging process and gain eternal youth. Bizarro.

sharonthewaspandthewineywall · 21/06/2015 21:48

Children of heaven.
Very odd. I just remember a brother and sister having to share a pair of shoes and not much else.
I was delirious with swine flu at the time mind

serenaserene · 21/06/2015 21:49

I had a spell of bingeing on foreign language films, some with very sensitive subject matter - Danish Dogme films The Idiots and Festen come to mind as do some of the early 2000s Pedro Almodavar films.

I really couldn't cope with Irreversible and switched it off after a few minutes.

I loved Audrey Tatou in a lesser known film following Amelia called À la folie... pas du tout.

More black humour in Tatie Danielle

Also a Hindi film called Black which I hazily recall being very powerful, about a deaf/blind woman.

How times change - the last 3 films I saw were Cinderella, Big Hero 6 and How to Train your Dragon 2 Confused

StoorieHoose · 21/06/2015 21:50

Ah Gregory's Girl - the source of many catchphrases during my high school trip to Germany in the late 80s :)

nooyearnooname · 21/06/2015 21:51

theimprobablegirl I loved the Man with One Red Shoe! We hired our video player from our local Granada shop in the 1980s and they had a selection of films you could borrow for free and that was one of them. I used to get it out all the time. That and Absolute Beginners.

expatinscotland · 21/06/2015 21:55

The Red Violin.

Whathaveilost · 21/06/2015 21:59

One of my recent fave obscure films was O'Horten. About a Norwegian train driver called Odd.

I loved that film although did get a bit chocked when he was at the ski jump thinking about his mother.

I also loved Harold and Maude.

Probably my favourite, although not that obscure is 'Women on the verge of a nervous breakdown' featuring a very young Antonio Bandaras.

Pedestriana · 21/06/2015 22:00

I've seen a few on here, but not very many.

May I offer (and probably quite well-known, but nobody I know has watched) Pans Labyrinth

The Station Agent (only ever seen it on tv very late at night and am always falling asleep toward the end).

Snow Cake. Strange and intriguing film with Alan Rickman and Sigourney Weaver (I think).

GiantGaspingSatanicCyst · 21/06/2015 22:00

Timecrimes - Spanish time travel thriller. I do like a good Spanish film Grin

On the low rent end of things, I am the only person I know who actually owns a copy of sub-Animal House 80s titfest Ski School.

GiantGaspingSatanicCyst · 21/06/2015 22:02

Seen and enjoyed Cube, Cronos, lots of others mentioned here. Have also seen I Bought A Vampire Motorcycle which is indeed utter shit Grin
