Basketball Diaries. I've never met a single person who has seen it and it's one of my favourites. Leonardo Dicaprio and Mark Wahlberg.

Like Crazy, pre Jennifer Lawrence being famous. Low budget and the cast had to make up 50% of the script.

Daydream nation. Stumbled across the trailer randomly on YouTube, decided to watch it. Really odd but turned out quite good.

Anybody seen Beau travail? That's my favourite film of all time. It's a reimagining of Melville's Billy Budd, taking place nowadays in the Foreign Legion, who are stationed in the desert in Djibouti.

The army exercises were all choreographed by a dancer, so they have this beautiful, dreamy feel to them. The music is amazing and the final scene knocks everything else out of the water.

A Chinese film about an elderly painter and decorator who teams up with his grandson to kill vampires. I can't remember what it was called, but if you come across something that sounds like that do watch it, it's very good.

Also a French film called My Father's Glory about an eccentric family and what they do on their summer holiday.

aoife24 · 24/06/2015 22:23

Beau Travail, yes, fabulous indeed, Clare Denis' best. Anyone seen Legacy, a Georgian film about a blood feud also with an unexpected, music led ending.

MakeItACider · 24/06/2015 22:24

Sooo brilliant to hear of others who have seen Bad Boy Bubby. Nobody I know has ever seen it. Are all of you Australian?

MakeItACider · 24/06/2015 22:27

Les Profs - a French movie, the worst teachers in France are recruited to save a failing school.

I laughed so hard it was embarrassing (on a plane!)

Crustacés et Coquillages

I cant believe I sat through this cinematic shite!

'Marc has inherited the house of his late aunt on the Côte d'Azur and takes the family there on for their summer holiday, leaving their home in Paris. Charly, who has never had a girlfriend, is thought to be gay by his parents and Martin, who is gay, is also staying with them. Béatrix's lover Mathieu arrives in the village and manages to sneak opportunities to be with her. When Martin goes out one night to the local gay cruising area - an old fort on a nearby hillside - Charly follows him and meets Didier. After realising he isn't gay he calls Didier for help when the hot water stops working. Didier then meets Marc and they realise how much they missed each other from when Marc used to visit the area in his youth. Throughout everyone eats lots of fruits de mer, especially Sea Violets. At the end everyone sings a song called 'Fruits de Mer', each with their preferred partner.'

Big Night - brainchild or love baby (?!) of Stanley Tucci

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 25/06/2015 16:08

Robot and Frank ( I thought it was called Frank and the Robot) is a great film, saw it a couple of weeks ago .

BoxOfKittens · 28/06/2015 15:48

Dogtooth. About parents who have brainwashed their children into believing that servere danger lurks outside the parameters of their property. Anything that enters the parameters is danger. They must not leave the property, under no circumstances , until they have grown their 'dogtooth'. The film is about the psychological consequences of this bizarre setup on the siblings who believe it to be true.

I thought it was a fascinating idea for a film!

'Walkabout' was mentioned up thread, it's on BBC4 at 11pm tonight.

Lucy61 · 28/06/2015 19:42

Vagina Dentada- you guessed it; it's about a woman who has toothy vagina. It was not porn (far from it) but an independent 'arty' film. Worse thing I've seen.

I loved Chasing Amy, more than Clerks, if I'm honest, and I loved Clerks (I've been known to wail "I wasn't even supposed to be here today!" at work when I'm covering for other people)

I watched yesterday a film on netflix called 'Advantageous'. Which was pretty lovely.

36 Quai des Orfèvres

A really good French cop thriller where a commissioner has a big case to crack and has his top two guys and whoever solves the case gets his job. Gerald Depardieu is one of them and is a complete bastard and Daniel Auteil as the family guy. Gripping and very gritty I would definitely reccomend it.

LurkingHusband · 30/06/2015 15:30

Milou en Mai ?

TheyGotTheMustardOut · 30/06/2015 15:35

My Dinner with Andre (Wallace Shawn and Andre Gregory) is a favourite of mine but I haven't met many people who have, 1) seen it, 2) liked it!

LurkingHusband · 01/07/2015 09:49

The Big Picture
