Basketball Diaries. I've never met a single person who has seen it and it's one of my favourites. Leonardo Dicaprio and Mark Wahlberg.

Like Crazy, pre Jennifer Lawrence being famous. Low budget and the cast had to make up 50% of the script.

Daydream nation. Stumbled across the trailer randomly on YouTube, decided to watch it. Really odd but turned out quite good.

anyone seen panda and the magic serpent?

DrJacoby · 21/06/2015 17:06

Basketball Diaries was v popular when I was growing up.

I've seen the Price of Milk. Bizzarro.

Anyone seen Pink Flamingos? The most disgusting filM I've ever seen! Amazing soundtrack though.

PersonalClown · 21/06/2015 17:07

Eve's Bayou. Samuel L Jackson film.

Soul Food.

Probably more that I can't remember. One of the perks of working at Blockbusters (when it still existed!)

Mumteedum · 21/06/2015 17:11

"Tim" is lovely, good book too.

"La retour de Martin Guerre", much better than the Remake "Somersby".

"Sky West and Crooked" with Hayley Mills. Only ever seen it on TV once, never since.

Mumteedum · 21/06/2015 17:13

I forgot "Testimony" based on Shostakovich's memoirs, seen on a memorable weekend when I'd actually seen every other film in every other cinema.

I have been to a few film festivals in my time so I've seen quite a few obscure films (some of which really deserve to remain obscure). Grin

Sex and Lucia - this was way less exciting than the title promised, I spent most of it hoping for a power cut.

R100 - defies description without being a massive spoiler, but basically it's a Japanese horror/comedy which I enjoyed despite its weirdness.

fussychica · 21/06/2015 17:22

I was a film student in the 70s so I've seen plenty of weird stuff, much of it foreign. It gave me a taste for foreign films and they still make up about half the movies I watch.

GilbertBlytheWouldGetIt · 21/06/2015 17:26

The Young Poisoner's Handbook.

RufusTheReindeer · 21/06/2015 17:29

The amazing Mr Blunden

Love Candlewick as well

Again I think they are generational films..there are probably loads of people on here who have seen them but I don't know anyone in real life

AnneTwacky · 21/06/2015 17:33

Picnic At Hanging Rock.

It was an Australian film, I remember the actress who played Mrs Mangle was in it.

It was oddly fascinating, about the weirdest school field trip ever. Very strange.

AlpacaPicnic · 21/06/2015 17:35

Ooh, I've seen picnic at hanging rock! It's based on a true story, and it is a bit eerie.
I'm glad some other people have seen series 7...

SunnyBaudelaire · 21/06/2015 17:36

oooh I remember Picnic at Hanging Rock - late 70s perhaps?
Very odd and creepy as I recall; don't remember Mrs Mangle though!!

QueenFuri · 21/06/2015 17:37

Gas Food Lodging. One of my favorite films has Ione Skye and Fairuza Balk in it, can't buy the DVD though butbits sometimes on TV during the night!

expatinscotland · 21/06/2015 17:38

Being with Claude, a very obscure French Canadian film.

velocityofbeans · 21/06/2015 17:38

'It Don't Pay To Be An Honest Citizen'

Vincent D'onofrio in his first film role, you could only get it from the producer. It was a very weird film, but as I was a big VDO fan at the time, it had to be watched

Longdistance · 21/06/2015 17:43

Final Jeopardy anyone? John Boy Walton actor Richard Thomas is the lead character. He and his wife get stuck under the subway one night, and they can't get out.

FruChristerOla · 21/06/2015 17:49

Yes, I've seen Picnic At Hanging Rock too.

How about Castle Keep? I don't think it's totally obscure though. Nor is Viva Max - which I thought was hilarious when I saw it. Funnily enough, these two films came out in 1969.

The Wicker Tree - Made about five years ago as a companion piece to The Wicker Man, a lot of poorly acted nonsense but a lot of fun.

George And The Dragon, with Piper Perabo, something about saving the baby dragon egg, highly enjoyable escapism!

The Round Up - French subtitled film about Nazi collaberators rounding up Jewish people to be sent to the death camps - True and very harrowing.

mrsschatzepage · 21/06/2015 18:03

A Strange Place to meet. its a french film starring Gerard Depardieu and catherine Deneuve who play two strangers stranded at a french motorway service station. Have only seen it once as rented it from blockbuster video. Hoping itwill be released on dvd one day.

MakeItACider · 21/06/2015 18:05

Most Australians over 40 have seen Picnic at Hanging Rock.

Bad Boy Bubby - Another Australian film.

"This Australian cult film draws extremely dark humor from the story of Bubby, a man who has spent the first 35 years of his life locked in a disgusting basement by his abusive, controlling mother. Having been taught that the outside air is poisonous and that leaving home is sinful, he only realizes the truth when his long-absent father returns to disrupt the already twisted family unit. A tragic confrontation follows, forcing Bubby into the real world. Knowing nothing about life, and undoubtedly suffering from mental disturbance, he stumbles about the city, speaking in a rambling monologue made up mainly of overheard phrases. His behavior is interpreted in different ways by the people he encounters: some think him insane, while others equate his strange speech and erratic behavior with brilliance. "

The Greatest with Carey Mulligan, Pierce Brosnan and Susan Sarandon. Made me cry my eyes out but no one I know has ever heard of it.
