Worst first date is the guy who was telling me about his cat who liked to lay in bed next to him, licking his armpits, because apparently "he likes the salt content in sweat".....eeeewwwww.....

pinklady123456 · 14/06/2015 20:48

Haven't seen this film yet but do like Simon Pegg a lot. My first date with hubby was a bit of a disaster - I was so drunk I tipped a bottle of bear all over my new top and then we decided to dance on a table in a bar where I promptly fell off and fell on top of him - leaving him bruised and with a sprained ankle in he process. We are still together 13 years later though!

Liquorice13 · 14/06/2015 21:10

The guy from Accounts chatted me up at the office christmas party, he got very drunk and was almost dribbling over me, I had just returned to work after being off for 18 months on long term sick leave, he asked me to justify why I still had a job. I was stunned to say the least! The next day he sent me a very long letter apologising and asked me out on a date. I gave him the benefit of the doubt as he had drunk a lot at the party (dutch courage to talk to me he said) and he was cute! We met up a month later, he came round to my apartment and never went home, we were engaged after 9 months and married 5 months after that. We've been married now for 8 years and have a beautiful 6 year old daughter. I'm so glad I gave him a second chance as he's the nicest guy you'll ever meet (and he doesn't drink much)

My First date with my now husband was a good old visit to a country pub we later got married there. My worst date was one that ended up with him in hospital with a vomiting bug.. blugh..

mum2eci · 15/06/2015 10:52

Always remember my first date with my (now) husband. He didn't have enough money to take me to the cinema so he returned a belt he'd bought to get a cash refund :-) Ah how sweet x

thewomaninwhitefluffybunnyears · 15/06/2015 11:40

First date was at a cinema, can't recall the film. It was nothing odd so nothing to report here. There are some shockers on this thread!

kittylover · 15/06/2015 12:09

My first date with my partner was romantic he cooked me a meal and we watched a movie together one of the best first dates i have ever had

sofieellis · 15/06/2015 12:53

My hubby turned up with about 15 friends on our first date, so it wasn't exactly romantic! Still, it all worked out, as we're still together 27 years later :)

confusedofengland · 15/06/2015 13:04

My first date with DH was pretty memorable. We'd met a week previously in a karaoke bar, then arranged an official date for the following week. In the meantime, we spotted each other out & about again before the date and ahem hooked up Grin Blush.

So, when our actual first date came around, we knew each other a bit & were comfortable together. He took me to the chippy (a sit-down place, mind you, proper posh Grin) and then back to THAT karaoke bar. It obviously worked - 3 DC & nearly 15 years later, we're still as much in love now as we were then Smile

TengoSueno · 15/06/2015 13:58

I used to work in a pub and was often asked out by the clients. On one particular occasion I agreed to meet what seemed like a really nice guy. When I got to the agreed point at 7pm he was already there wearing a tuxedo and carrying a huge bouquet of flowers. I was freaked out and decided to stand him up (I am thoroughly ashamed of this now but I was only 18 at the time). Anyway, I went home and told my flatmates who all laughed and asked me to go out with them instead.

Later on as we were on our way out we passed the date rendezvous point, I heard my name called out. The guy had waited 3 hours! I was completely gobsmacked. My flatmates were in hysterics as I tried to make excuses about thinking it was the following week etc. He didn't seem to mind and believed me. I had no excuses left so when he asked if I wanted to do it then I just said yes, I had to go on a date with him despite trying to stand him up earlier. I still cringe at the whole thing.

Thinking back as I write that out it does seem odd. I think I have mentioned on here about him before when he persuaded the girl in the flat downstairs to let him into ours. I woke up to find him sat on the end of my bed. I have just realised how truly creepy he was. It was complete overkill with the gifts and waiting and knowing when my shifts ended. :( I am glad I moved away now.

Haven't seen the film but my most memorable first date started with a trip to the cinema to see Monsters inc. we actually had to sit in the front row because there were so many families and children in the cinema! Afterwards we went for a lovely meal. My date chose a mixed grill with corn on the cob. We were merrily chatting away while we ate when he squirted me in the eye with the juice from the corn on the cob. It made us laugh and broke the ice a bit. Roll on 13 years and we're still together, happily married and with 2 small children :-)

lmk999 · 15/06/2015 16:50

My worst first date was at a very boring football match. I didn't even realise it was meant to be a date, and he spent the entire 90 minutes trying to hold my hand while I studiously pretending not to notice!

ShatnersBassoon · 15/06/2015 17:41

I've only ever been on one date that could be classed as an actual 'first date', in that I'd never been friends with or socialised with the man before. He turned up stuffing his face with a burger because he was hungry and didn't know if I'd eaten (I hadn't Hmm), and in the pub asked me not to order anything to eat because he was full and didn't want to sit and watch me eat. I got trashed because I was nervous and had an empty stomach, and when I went to the toilet I forgot I was with someone so didn't return to the table and got the bus home Grin

sarah861421 · 15/06/2015 19:31

haven't seen it yet but I will this summer, heavily plugged on Radio 2, not always a good sign

leannemoore · 15/06/2015 19:37

It was love at first sight with my husband and I .

maclinks · 15/06/2015 20:47

A thoroughly enjoyable, funny movie, not gut busting funny, but I smiled a lot, if you loved Bridget Jones Diary you will like this . It has brilliantly witty oneliners and observations. Not sure it will travel state side because very British

Trills · 15/06/2015 20:57

I thik I would like to see this film, but hate the phrase "man up".

buckley1983 · 15/06/2015 22:21

Got to love the cinema for a first date! I don't have any good stories that relate to me & my dates - but my mum & dad went on their first date to the cinema. After finding their seats in the screen, my dad nipped off to get popcorn - when he returned, the lights were down - he tripped up the steps halfway up & rolled back down them, followed by the popcorn. Smooth. I'm guessing this was in the days before the step edges were illuminated - so hopefully this happens less in 2015. She still married him!
I haven't seen 'Man Up' - but I heard an interview with the writer & it sounded good! I'm waiting for my code to come through from Meerkats so maybe this will be the first film we choose to see on 2 for 1!

onehellofaride · 15/06/2015 22:37

Worst first date was with a man who I went to the cinema and for drinks with who talked continuously about his XGFs pottery class and then spoke to me for the rest of the night pretending to be a leprechaun! He then took me home in his Subaru which he was very pleased with and I got out covered in dog hairs after nearly losing my popcorn on the journey while avoiding his groping hands! That was our one and only date!

Trills · 15/06/2015 22:41

Why would you go on a FIRST date to an activity where you don't actually talk?

Hopezibah · 16/06/2015 00:08

haven't seen it but LOVE Simon Pegg - first watched him on Spaced many years ago.

Will get onto a first date story but have to share about my nieces - when one fell over and grazed her knee she moaned how sore it was like when granny had her knee replacement. To which my other niece replied 'oh just man up - you have a grazed knee - it's nothing like a knee replacement'

We just loved that she used the phrase 'man up' for her little sister who is only 7 years old.

First date disaster (but can't have been that bad as I ended up marrying him) - Romantic walk in the countryside, tried to walk through field, chased by young bulls with horns - #terrifying - ran away, end of date!

scoper71 · 16/06/2015 01:17

Going on a date with a guy you pulled whilst pissed as a far with a split lip in A&E was probably never going to end well.....

He arrived in a car with his pissed up, party hands owning friend, and took me to a rancid old, cheap Indian restaurant which played Bollywood films at full blast on a very old projector on repeat play.

His friend spent the entire time trying to grope me under the table, and pestered me for my number with his friend sat right next to him, which was nice.

I have no idea to this day why he seemed to think there was nothing strange in bringing said friend along on our first date.

As you can imagine, there was no 2nd date.

scoper71 · 16/06/2015 01:17

fart not far

TrollTheRespawnJeremy · 16/06/2015 15:33

I inadvertantly destroyed somebody else's first date and had an impromptu and unwanted one of my own!

I was browsing records in a second hand shop and a tall, lanky man put his hand on top of mine and leaned in for a kiss!!!

He was not my type, at all, in a full length leather trenchcoat. The shopowner was in knots of laughter when the man told us that his Internet date had told him to meet at this particular shop and she'd be looking at Fleetwood Mac records (which I just happened to be!)

We were both very embarrassed but it veered from bad to worse when I said my goodbyes and left the shop in shock and then got verbally abused by the date that he was supposed to have who thought it was a set up.

What a palaver.

ElectroNymph · 16/06/2015 17:22

I haven't seen the film. My first proper date was with a 31 year old guy (I was 18). It was in a city centre pub and I was incredibly nervous. He was pretty up himself, still, I did date him for a year due to a lack of self-esteem!
