Oh, and the rocky horror picture show.

JeezyPeeps · 23/08/2012 15:25

Why don't you educate us then Leslie, we might discover something wonderful!

Latonia · 23/08/2012 15:27

Another one for Truly Madly Deeply, especially if I want a good cry. I love Alan Rickman Smile

missymoomoomee · 23/08/2012 15:28

Probably not Leslie, I bow down to your superiority and I thank you for showing me the error of my 'rom-com starring d-lister' loving ways.

festivalwidow · 23/08/2012 15:29

Crying: Whale Rider
Laughing: American Splendor
Shooting: The Departed, The Godfather
Film-suitable-for-watching-with-child: The Jungle Book

CailinDana · 23/08/2012 15:30

I agree Leslie, god forbid women be allowed to watch things they actually like, it might give the wrong impression! Far better they sit through things they find boring just so others (what others, I don't know) can think they are intelligent.

Binkyridesagain · 23/08/2012 15:30

Its depends what i'm looking for in a film
X men -Patrick Stewart and Hugh Hackman in one film mmmmm lovely
The last emperor - not sure why I just enjoy it
Various Martial arts films. I enjoy the choreography and the beauty of the locations
Pretty much anything with Audrey Hepburn

pumpkinsweetie · 23/08/2012 15:30

Roadkill
The proposal
Jack & Jill
Drop Dead Fred

Don't Tell mom the babsitter is Dead
Blush

squoosh · 23/08/2012 15:31

PS I Love You is the worst film of all time.

There was a ruling in Brussels.

LaurieFairyCake · 23/08/2012 15:32

Manhattan

When harry met sally

Somethings Gotta Give

I return to them again and again. I genuinely think I love film, watch as much as I can - going to see Polisse later but my favourite films are always going to be about relationships in a comedic and heartwarming way.

I don't think my love of good romantic comedies makes me braindead either Hmm

KellyElly · 23/08/2012 15:33

treas I LOVE that film adn Alan Rickman. I cry my eyes out every time I watch it.

There's loads of films mentioned I've never watched. I will get them in for when the nights get colder and darker (I love snuggling up under my duvet and watching a film :)).

Is The Bicycle Thieves okay with you Leslie?

It's not my favourite. In fact I've never even seen it but I just want to know the benchmark by which we're all being judged before I put my faves out there to be shot down.

LeslieKnope · 23/08/2012 15:33

So Cailin your inference being that women who claim to love "smart" films are only lying to appear intelligent so they can impress others??

Pretty low opinion you have of your fellow females there.

waterlego6064 · 23/08/2012 15:34

Withnail and I because I never tire of it.

Close runners up:

Life is Beautiful
Shine

MissFaversam · 23/08/2012 15:35

As Good As It Gets.

greenhill · 23/08/2012 15:35

leslieknope are you a fan of Wim Wenders, Peter Greenaway and Lars Von Trier then? Andrei Tarkovsky is my favourite director, but "Cross of Iron" by Sam Peckinpah is my favourite serious film.

Is it wrong of me to like the light relief of When Harry Met Sally / Cabaret / a Denzel thriller when doing housework?

missymoomoomee · 23/08/2012 15:36

Leslie you inference that all women who like to watch rom-coms are brain dead means you opinion of your fellow females is pretty low too.

idobelieveinfairies · 23/08/2012 15:36

Alien films (aliens is the best), the departed, inception, shutter island, dirty dancing, girl with the dragon tattoo, dirty dancing, mama Mia, hurt locker, the beach, sleeping with the enemy, four christmas's.

Anything with vince Vaughan or Leo di caption ;)

squoosh · 23/08/2012 15:36

I love Good Will Hunting but then I remember that Minnie Driver is in it and I go 'Ugh'. Still love it though and it has a brilliant soundtrack.

RobinSparkles · 23/08/2012 15:36

But the point of film, quite often, is escapism.

Life and work can be demanding and stressful. Why can't a woman let a little bit of Gerard Butler nonsense wash over her after a hard day? Why should anyone be ashamed of what films they like?

slowestwildebeast · 23/08/2012 15:36

I have a varied taste in film, I love old war films and ones like Full Metal Jacket and Life is Beautiful. These aren't the most cheery though.

American Beauty always cracks me up with Kevin Spacey.

I'll think of some pretentious ones just for leslie. :)

Lol - Lesie, and your impression of women as brain dead idiots is complimentary?

idobelieveinfairies · 23/08/2012 15:37

Fgs....this phone!!!!! Di caprio, not caption.

tethersend · 23/08/2012 15:38

Leslie, I'm no rom-com fan, but seriously... You're doing yourself no favours here Grin
