Shirtless men

The hot weather has brought them all out where I live. I took DS to the barbers after school and there was a guy in there getting his hair cut, shirtless, in just a pair of shorts. No one batted an eyelid.

I didn't feel offended or sexually aroused, but I did think, what would happen if women did the same? Would we be regarded as mad? Might someone call the police? Would we get sexually assaulted? I think all of these are probable outcomes. Just pondering the double standard!

The sun will always bring out topless men some look good sorry to say it.
TBH it dont bother me how people walk about i mean have you seen how some women dress they have their arse cheeks hanging out.
Let people be.

Blueeyedmale · 25/06/2024 19:03

To me it's about personal choice for both men and women. I used to do it in my late teens and early 20s when I was immature and needed an ego boost. I'm 43 now have grown up, I probably have more confidence now than I did back then. But my body is private and I wouldn't do it now. But that's not to say I judge those that do. It's down to each individual. As long as its not indecent. Live and let live

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 25/06/2024 19:05

I hate it. I don’t want to see someone’s sweaty body. That’s what tops are for, to conceal it.

Sunbathing and back garden fine. Don’t want to see it otherwise.

biscuitandcake · 25/06/2024 20:28

Skin cancer. That's what I think. Especially when they are all pink. Especially when it's builders/gardeners out in the sun all day. Their body their choice obvs, but it's not something worth emulating as a woman and I am very comfortable in my skin.

supersonicginandtonic · 25/06/2024 20:29

If he's having his hair cut I can see why he was wearing no top to be honest. I'd take mine off if I could

XChrome · 25/06/2024 20:31

Arrested? Is female toplessness still illegal where you live?

thistimelastweek · 25/06/2024 20:33

It's just not that hot.

What stops you from taking your top off?

Men's chests and women's chests are different though.

Different in a way that makes one being bare okay and not the other?

Hateam · 25/06/2024 21:33

Yes.

Really? You used to walk down your local high street, wearing shorts with your boobs out? What reaction did you get?

No of course not, but if I were to walk through my local high street in just a pair of shorts with my breasts exposed, I wonder if people would think I was mentally ill and needed help. Would you consider it a normal sight?

Look at the poster's name.

Whycantiwinmillionsandsquillions · 25/06/2024 21:44

I do judge, and not in a positive way.
It’s about having respect for your surroundings.
I don’t want to see it.
Lets face it the men who do this are never, ever on the level of Brad Pitt in Thelma and Louise are they? Nowhere near as attractive and yes, it really does matter.
I would not want to have a cape on me which has been directly on someone’s skin. If that person feels so hot as to have had to remove their clothes then it’s fair to assume they have been sweating. I don’t want that on me.
I just think it’s unnecessary and inappropriate.
Is it ok for your child’s teacher to greet you topless?
Or your GP to work topless?
Or the cabin crew?
Or the waiter or chef?

TuesdayWhistler · 25/06/2024 21:44

It's women's Nipples that are dangerous OP.

Women's Nipp Nipps have to be covered in at least a bikini top or people will be genocided.

Damn women and their lethal nipples.

DeeLight00 · 25/06/2024 21:45

No, let me just clarify now, I'm not a troll. Been on here for years.

If a boy at school.grabbed a girl's chest would it be the same as a girl grabbing a boy's chest?

It's not a common sight, but certainly not one that should cause people to call 911. Who would the woman be harming? I wouldn't do it on the street, because I have no reason for being shirtless on the street. I have done it at the beach, only because I'm an afficinado of swimming in the nude, or as close to it as I can get.

DeeLight00 · 25/06/2024 21:49

My point is, it's unthinkable for us, as women to walk around with our bare breasts on show. Like someone said, it's not illegal but we know it's out of bounds for us. It's like an unspoken rule. I personally would not want to walk around topless, but the option is not really there anyway, is it?

OP posts:
Whycantiwinmillionsandsquillions · 25/06/2024 21:49

It isn’t different for men or women.
Men have sexualised women’s breasts that’s all.
Quite frankly some men have bigger breasts than women so the argument is mute.
Yes it’s good that people don’t feel body shamed but you really should show respect for your surroundings and others.
I most certainly would not want to have topless men or women in my office.
Likewise I would not sit there with my tits out.

An assault is an assault, but it's not the same because the girl is at greater risk of further violence.

Well duh. So what?

Whycantiwinmillionsandsquillions · 25/06/2024 21:51

Why on earth would a girl be grabbing a boys chest?
