Name changed as I've commented

Why do women not see the issue with people renting wombs?

I don't know these who two are but they look the epitome of banal narcissism. I'm not sure why it (surrogacy) is seen as acceptable, probably because people see a cute baby and gloss over the rest. The mother airbrushed out of the picture. I find it quite chilling.

One or both of the fathers was in Made In Chelsea.

The name is almost as bad.

I think it's a sign of how low the bar is with celebrity surrogacy that my first thought was that at least they name checked the surrogate rather than completely ignoring her...

NeighbourhoodWatchPotholeDivision · 25/08/2023 23:07

Let's hope this couple are more responsible than the unnamed couple who wanted to sue the hospital where the babies were born 11 weeks prematurely. Why? Because the hospital staff didn't want to discharge very prem babies in order to move them across the country to another NICU. Assuming there were even beds available in an NICU nearby, it would still be a crazy idea to take the babies out of hospital!

News has reached us of another celeb couple commissioning babies like they’re pedigree dogs.

This time the babies have been born 11 weeks early. They’re in hospital: the Dads allegedly threatening to sue hospital if they don’t move them.

Human trafficking. In the U.K. In 2023.

It is good (and rare) that they name checked the birth mum

From the comments…WTAF?
Surrogacy is considered the same as being pregnant yourself?

Right.

One of the commenters is now saying that surrogacy treats infertility and is akin to a heart transplant. 😬

I think Ollie and Gareth will be terrific parents. Bex their surrogate has been and apparently will be continued to be included in their lives. I think its pretty nasty of people who can't see that she has done a wonderful thing for a gay couple who will love, care and provide for their children.

It's still human trafficking.

But why couldn't they have used their terrific parenting skills to love, care and provide for a baby that they adopted from the UK system?

Locke-Locke?!

Haha yes that was my first thought too - why on earth would you inflict that double surname on the kids?

This. Ollie and Gareth have been very open about their story and their surrogate was 100% onboard. People talk about women’s choice when it comes to babies and being pregnant and this woman made a choice about what she wanted to do with her own body.

Yes there are some surrogacy situations where the woman may be coerced into it but this situation isn’t one of them actually shows a positive outcome for both parents and the surrogate.

BubziOwl · 29/08/2023 16:17

  1. Not all brands of feminism are concerned with choice and liberalism above all else.
  1. It's not just about the mother, it's about the baby too. Deliberately separating a mother from their baby is usually a last resort.

Focusing on 'choice' allows those who exploit women and babies to escape any kind of scrutiny. Over and over, specifically on things that harm women and children.

barofsoap · 29/08/2023 16:26

Just sometimes surrogacy is the icing on the cake of a fairy tale. Prince Gustav's grandfather disappeared in WW2 after writing a will leaving estates & title to his unborn grandson, but only if he married a protestant aryan woman. Prince Gustav fell in love with Carina who is half mexican - they could not marry until last year when the legals had been sorted, though she had been warmly welcomed by the Danish and SWB families for many years
She is now 55 and they have got a little son born by surrogacy in the US. twitter.com/Gertsroyals/status/1695514921461588378?s=20

ASoapImpressionOfHisWifeWhichHeAte · 29/08/2023 16:26

The real crime is those names. Also, "Locke-Locke"? What now?

Jellycats4life · 29/08/2023 16:30

So I take it the two men just happen to have the same surname? Double barrelling the same fucking surname? Are they out of their minds?

Also, that blind item does sound like it was them…

Clymene · 29/08/2023 16:32

Their first attempt was a great example of international baby trafficking:
"It's been wild. We've had to go to Mexico because we couldn't get to go to America. We've had an egg donor from Brazil, willing it to work. Mexico went into lockdown. We had to get embryos flown to Cyprus from Mexico because we had seen the face of the egg donor," Ollie said.

That surrogate miscarried. They then implanted two embryos into another woman who also miscarried. They've finally persuaded a third woman to carry two embryos for them, putting her body at enormous risk.

What evidence is there that they will be great parents? Confused
