Where can I get DD measured for a proper bra?

DD is 12, nearly 13. I’m a J cup so she was always likely to have big boobs. She’s been wearing quite heavy duty sports bras till now (since she was about 9) but she’s started complaining that they aren’t comfortable anymore. It wouldn’t surprise me if she’s a DD cup by now.

My mum took me to M+S but I’ve been boycotting them for years. I get my bras online from Bravissimo and they feel a bit grown up for a teen who would rather hide them than go for lacy whatevers.

I really don’t want to be exposing her to anywhere where it may be a biologically male assistant helping/measuring her, nor do I want her in unisex changing rooms.

so, where do we go?

Bravissimo.

D you have any idea what her back measurement might be? I'm not sure what size they start at - I think it's a 28D

Littlefish · 30/06/2023 23:24

Their styles have improved lately, with some more interesting bralet styles.

GCWorkNightmare · 30/06/2023 23:24

I’ll have to measure her. I’d guess a 30ish.

Not being funny, I'd have a look at Victoria's Secret. They have some good plain styles that have done me really well through pregnancy and now breastfeeding; nice plain ones as well, nothing too fancy. Individual closed door changing rooms too.

Lotsofpots · 30/06/2023 23:27

Where are you based?

CelticPromise · 30/06/2023 23:27

Have a look on Boob or Bust and do it yourselves, then order from somewhere with free returns?

Can’t see any teen bras on there. And I bail at paying £40 each for my bras! Never mind hers!

Thank you. I walk past there and assume there is nothing for me in there.

May have to do that.

South East Wales. Not far from Cardiff.

My recommendation is no use to you then as it's London based. But I'd agree with PP about victoria secret. I've been accurately measured (none of that M&S shit) and had very comfortable bras that have lasted years from there (and that aren't lime green lace monstrosities, as are so often advertised on their models).

But for anyone else reading who is in London or saffron Walden - get to Pantry Underwear. Brilliant fittings and beautiful underwear.

I took my teen to bravissimo. Expensive, but they were great. Spent ages with different styles etc. Ended up with 2 relatively plain bras (one white and one black) and a sports bra. They also gave us student discount.

I spend 4 days a month in London but not with her, unfortunately. :(

Tiny local independent shop, one female owner and assistant. Brilliant service, we found it by recommendation. I’d avoid big chains if possible.

There us a fabulous independent lingerie shop in Southampton which offers a measuring service. I'm sure google could find one nearish to Cardiff if it is over the boarder.

MrsMoastyToasty · 01/07/2023 00:36

John Lewis or an independent shop . I go to one called Perfect Fit in Keynsham (between Bristol and Bath).

NomDePrune · 01/07/2023 00:51

You can book a fitting at JL and make your preferences known when you book online https://www.johnlewis.com/appointments/lingerie/shops?

Mrstwiddle · 01/07/2023 01:44

@Mumof1andacat is it possible to get the name pls?

Just an FYI I took Dd (12) here and they didn't actually measure her. They just did it by sight.

sashh · 01/07/2023 06:05

Do you have any independent shops? They are usually best but are like hen's teeth.

WhereAreWeNow · 01/07/2023 08:12

Do it yourself. I do for my DD. Then I order online. She's very shy and doesn't want to be fitted in a shop.

Hoppinggreen · 01/07/2023 08:13

Another recommendation for Victorias Secret or Bijoux

MariaVT65 · 01/07/2023 08:16

I used to work as a bra fitter at both m&s and john lewis. Not sure why you’re boycotting m&s but JL is a good alternative, they do teen bras and their fitting rooms won’t be unisex.

Sarfar45 · 01/07/2023 08:18

John Lewis are good
