Where can I get DD measured for a proper bra?

DD is 12, nearly 13. I’m a J cup so she was always likely to have big boobs. She’s been wearing quite heavy duty sports bras till now (since she was about 9) but she’s started complaining that they aren’t comfortable anymore. It wouldn’t surprise me if she’s a DD cup by now.

My mum took me to M+S but I’ve been boycotting them for years. I get my bras online from Bravissimo and they feel a bit grown up for a teen who would rather hide them than go for lacy whatevers.

I really don’t want to be exposing her to anywhere where it may be a biologically male assistant helping/measuring her, nor do I want her in unisex changing rooms.

so, where do we go?

Fifthing John Lewis - they were great with DD and there's one in Cardiff.

AnguaResurgam · 01/07/2023 08:24

You can measure her at home, and then try any retailer with a decent returns policy.

It's a bit difficult to find the larger cup sizes in less than a 30" band, but it can be done.

Asda bras are surprisingly good, so I'd start with them.

Pink is the name of the part of Victoria's Secret that is marketed at teens and younger women.

SprinkleRainbow · 01/07/2023 08:27

M&S massively undermeasured me. Told me I was an E cup when I'd been measured as a GG for years (in different shops) when I tried their E cup suggestions it was evidently too small on the cup. I've never been back and wouldn't take my DD either.
If you have a Boux Avenue near you they have lots of styles and designs more suitable for younger ladies, or Victoria Secret. I've got more accurate fittings at Ann Summers but sure they'll fit a teenager. Bravissimo is great but won't measure unless around a D cup upwards as they can't sell anything to you 🤣

poorbuthappy · 01/07/2023 08:28

Measure using boob or bust and then order from Brastop.

iamnotanalcoholic70 · 01/07/2023 08:33

Years ago when I worked in Swansea people were talking about Madam Foner which is in one of the arcades. I've no idea what it's like, but it's an independent shop not far from Cardiff

😱

Where can I get DD measured for a proper bra?

As a previously trained bra fitter, i can say the best method is to use measurement as a base, but then it’s really about process of elimination by trying on different bras to find the best fit. It can highly depend on style and material.

GCWorkNightmare · 01/07/2023 09:12

But where on earth do I find teen-suitable bras in 28F-type sizing??

gogomoto · 01/07/2023 09:14

At the M&S in Bristol there were only females fitting bras when I was there. They do have the best teen range by far, but once they reach 32 band I recommend Asda's t shirt bra range, both my DD's have them, only £5 each (or were last year) and lots of colours, no lace at all.

gogomoto · 01/07/2023 09:15

I was given a sizing of 30ff at an independent but they were really uncomfortable, didn't buy any, 34 e fits me great

wutheringkites · 01/07/2023 09:15

@gogomoto but do they go beyond cup size DD/E? Most places don't so options are limited.

GunkyAndGungey · 01/07/2023 09:18

There's a tiny independent shop in Monmouth that does bra fitting, it called Hart's and they're meant to be excellent.

TinyRebel · 01/07/2023 09:19

No useful suggestions, but this takes me back to the time I took DD to see a very enthusiastic ex M&S bra fitter in her new shop. She was absolutely evangelical about bras and proceeded to tell me all about how she fits bras for ladies in care homes, ladies who have had mastectomies, all sorts of shapes and sizes. She then let me know that she has a forum for, and fits bras for “my transgender ladies” - assuming I’d be impressed.😂
I asked her if she realised that, by carrying out bra fittings for men, she was being a participant in their autogynaephilic fetish - and had checked the changing rooms for unusual stains?🤮
Poor woman went puce.

Babdoc · 01/07/2023 09:19

MariaVT65, presumably OP is boycotting M and S because they allow men into the women’s changing rooms and also employ a man as a bra fitter. No responsible mother would want to take her young daughter to such a shop.

28F would be a tricky size to get - I'd strongly recommend trying lots of 30Es which is a "sister size" and will give you far more choice - including M&S's teen range "Angel".

But John Lewis do stock 7 different non-wired bras in 28F (although half of them are sports bras, and they're unlikely to have many of them stocked in store).

MossCow · 01/07/2023 09:21

My sister is a 28F. She gets her bras from bravissomo and M&S.

Hell will freeze over before I give M+S any money. Just in case I didn’t make that clear.

Is she an adult. The 28Fs on bravissimo aren’t very teen friendly.

M&S?

ImpossibleGirl86 · 01/07/2023 09:44

Boux Avenue do all sorts in 28F, Pour Moi do all sorts but not 28 - you'd have to go to 30E as suggested above and see if any of those work.

ImpossibleGirl86 · 01/07/2023 09:46

You may also have luck with Freya

Whatevergetsyouthroughthenight · 01/07/2023 09:47

Boux avenue, there’s one in Cardiff. They have a wider range of sizes than many shops and are cheaper than Bravissimo. They do t shirt bras and bralettes.

TheFormidableMrsC · 01/07/2023 09:47

Avoid M&S, absolutely dreadful.

cheesenotoast · 01/07/2023 09:55

Try Boux Avenue , DD used the one in Cardiff ( I think it’s still there in the big mall that John Lewis is in )
Kind assistants and nice private changing rooms
