Pregnant NYC Bike "Karen" was the victim, not the agressor

Trial by social media for a pregnant woman who cried when a man tried to steal the bike she's hired is tried and hung by social media, and put on unpaid leave from her job, with no evidence or investigation:

https://www.bicycling.com/news/a43920956/pregnant-nyc-karen-on-video-trying-to-steal-a-black-mans-citi-bike/

https://news.yahoo.com/receipts-show-hospital-worker-accused-170920174.html

It turns out she had paid for the bike and he has no evidence he paid. But he is not the subject of the internets wrath, no consequences for him.

I hope she takes her employers to court and wins a massive settlement. Surreal levels of misogyny and hatred directed to a pregnant healthcare worker who did nothing wrong at all.

Will this ever be recognised for what it is?

You obviously lack comprehension skills. Pick that up with your teachers and parents. If you are unable to realise that both statements are substantially of the same meaning

Come on. 'these black men are doing x' and 'help get off me' are not substantially of the same meaning. At all. You made this incident racist, you judged this woman and said she did and said things she did not, because she was white.

HypocrisyRules · 21/05/2023 13:41

Standing with you @TrudyProud against the pack. To me, it wasn't really about this woman but about how you were treated because you had a different perspective. You are so right here (I was the woman piled on by so called feminists who always stand by women.... as women are always in the right. Well at least when white they agree with them) and this thread is one of many on the Feminism boards that shows it. This isn't the first time it's been said by other women (black or white).

You obviously lack comprehension skills.
I agree. Scrambling to find something to "dissect" posts to seem clever like they like to say they are and missing vital information.

HypocrisyRules · 21/05/2023 13:45

'To me, it wasn't really about this woman and the men or about this story...' is what I meant to say.

ThePoglesWood · 21/05/2023 14:22

You mean pointing out statements which are incorrect? Yeah, let’s not start trying to be truthful and correct about a situation when we can just make our point by insults eh?

Interesting that you say you are not interested in the actual woman at the centre of this situation. How do you feel about how she’s been treated now that more information has come to light?

HypocrisyRules · 21/05/2023 14:58

^^ Exhibit Z+

ThePoglesWood · 21/05/2023 15:08

I asked you a perfectly reasonable question, and that is your response.

There is no point trying to have a reasonable discussion with people who do not see you as their equal because of the colour of your skin. Or people who treat situations where a pregnant woman who has done nothing wrong has possibly lost her job as a game because of the colour of her skin.

Lndnmummy · 21/05/2023 15:37

You could not make this stuff up. Honestly

You did not just say that, surely? 🤣

ThePoglesWood · 21/05/2023 15:44

After your previous racist and misogynistic comment to me, I have no wish to continue any discussion with you @Lndnmummy

Some people on this thread did make stuff up. Like that the woman had made reference to the race of the men arguing with her, when she didn't. And that the men involved had proof it was their bike, when they didn't.

Badgeringabout · 21/05/2023 20:02

nothingcomestonothing · 21/05/2023 10:45

You must be a feminist only when it suits you and towards those you deem worthy

The irony. The racists here, are the posters who have decided that the woman involved in the incident must have been the aggressor, with no evidence other than the colour of her skin.

Any comment to make on the fact that news commentators who made the same prejudiced assumptions as you, are now backing down and apologising?

This. What an unbelievable shit show of a thread this is. I have read it open mouthed from start to finish.

ImAvingOops · 21/05/2023 12:16

Calling other women 'Karen' ? There's nothing feminist about you

Oh and this too. 100%.
Middle aged white women are the fucking scourge of the planet it seems. Fuck that bollocks.

Well....

Badgeringabout · 21/05/2023 20:53

Well....

What is your point?

elgreco · 21/05/2023 22:31

Lndnmummy, you are abou 5 years off being called a Karen by your son. If it bothers you, he will call you on your white fragility.

Not sure how/why you think you know the age of my son but nope we are not '5 years away'. My son regularly keep me in check/ challenges anything I say as part of my white privilege and will hold me to account if he believes I am a Karen. Which is exactly how I have raised him. I would expect nothing less and I am immensely proud of him. ❤️

ImAvingOops · 22/05/2023 12:53

Tail wagging the dog springs to mind there.
I don't think your children should be 'keeping you in check'

elgreco · 22/05/2023 12:56

Does he monitor his father's sexism, or is it only his female parent that he keeps in check?

ImAvingOops · 22/05/2023 12:59

And encouraging him to call you a Karen if you step out of line, according to his beliefs, is not something you should be boasting about on the internet.

Lndnmummy · 22/05/2023 13:25

@elgreco and @ImAvingOops I was not boasting, I was responding to a PP. I will not debate how I raise my black child on the Internet, especially not with people who have no genuine interest in understanding the complexities you navigate when raising a black child in the UK.

Carry on though, but any further references to my black child will be reported to @MNHQ accordingly.

ImAvingOops · 22/05/2023 13:28

Report to MNHQ for what exactly?
You're the one who brought up how you are raising him - you put that on a public forum and now you're complaining when posters discuss what you posted?

I'm not sure that's the gotcha you seem to think it is, but you do you.

Any comment to make on the ostensible topic of this thread, given that commentators who wrongly stated that the woman involved was a racist and a liar have now had to admit they were wrong and apologise?

elgreco · 22/05/2023 12:56

🤣 Why would his father be sexist? Because he is black?

elgreco · 22/05/2023 14:31

No, because he is a man.

No? My children live in a world which means their experiences are different to mine. Regardless of how much I try (and I really do) there will be times (plenty) where my white privilege means I do not see/understand how they perceive certain situations.

So they have to tell me. This is not in any way shape or form them being sexist. That is us, as a family navigating our, at times, very different realities.

I do not expect you to understand it. But to ridicule it, there is no need.
