My girls are 10 and 8 and really into Taylor Swift. I’ve never really listened to her music before but her lyrics are amazing, she’s so talented and I’m just so happy that women like her are here to be role models for my girls.

I find her song ‘The Man’ especially poignant. Although I find the lyric “When everyone believes you… what’s that like?” heartbreaking.

Pretty sure there’s a thread at least once a week attesting to her supreme talent! As well as all the doctoral theses currently being Chatbotted across the world comparing her to Shakespeare.

In fact there was a quiz in one of the national papers Times / Guardian / NYT??? testing whether you could distinguish her lyrics from his. I scored 100% correct.🏆 There may also have been the odd year or three when TS was my most listened to artist on Spotify … (I am a Very Serious person who once followed a responsible profession …)

GinJarRogers · 04/05/2023 19:37

Oh no is there?! Sorry!
pretty sure I would ace that quiz too as I’m a huge fan of both.

I really like her last few albums. She's hugely talented. I hope she brings her current tour to the UK

Barbarbarf · 04/05/2023 20:19

Never got the Taylor Swift thing until I listened to her latest album. It is excellent. Listened to a podcast about it and how she writes - her speech at the Nashville writers awards (I think?) about how she uses one or two or all three of different pens in her mind depending on what she's doing - gel pen, fountain pen or quill. It's nice to listen and try and work out which she used. Also, the music - using a synthetic bass in her latest album you rarely find outside of drum and bass.

I might have to listen to her other stuff!

megletthesecond · 04/05/2023 20:21

Listen to the BBC Teach Me A Lesson podcast on her too.
waiting with baited breath for her to announce UK dates

comeondover · 04/05/2023 20:43

I'm very middle-aged and think she’s brilliant. Only recently started listening to her music on Spotify, am amazed at how prolific she is and yes, great lyrics.

different strokes for different folks, but I am a major Swiftie, have been for over 10 years, and Midnights really is a bottom their album of hers. Both musically and lyrically IMO. Red, reputation, and folklore are my top three. I also have the controversial option that the original recording of Red is better than Taylors Version.

XBealtaine · 04/05/2023 20:45

She is amazing.
"Everytime you call me crazy I get more crazy". Love it.

Wallabyone · 04/05/2023 20:46

I am a more recent fan, loved Folklore and also Midnights, so I started listening to her older stuff. Fab music!

toastofthetown · 04/05/2023 21:00

Been a long time TS fan since Fearless and have to agree with @SummaLuvin that folklore, Reputation and Red are amongst Taylor's best albums (though personally I'd switch folklore for evermore in my top three). There's so much passion in them, which is just missing in Midnights. Listening to the 3am Edition, when Would've Could've Should've comes on the contrast to the brutal emotion in that song with the flatness of rest of the album is stark.

LawksaMercyMissus · 04/05/2023 21:04

DD served her and a group of friends in a restaurant, said she was absolutely lovely and the only one who ate three corses!

EmmaEmerald · 04/05/2023 21:05

been a fan of hers for years but recently had someone else mention they've only just got into her music.

I find her music and lyrics remarkable. Champagne Problems is my earworm today. Her crafting of narrative is superb.

X post
I might collapse in a heap if I actually met her.

dudsville · 04/05/2023 21:11

I don't really know Taylor swift music but this thread made me Google the quiz and i only guessed 13/26 correctly!

Beautyhoard · 04/05/2023 21:21

"Better man" at the bluebird was my breakup song when I got ghosted (after a year together Hmm). So accurate and beautiful

rainraingoawaay · 04/05/2023 21:23

If you watch the Miss Americana Netflix special it's amazing! You see her standing up for her views and what she wants to communicate to her fans in a room full of old men trying to keep her silent and warming her not to do anything - it's really poignant.

I love everything she's every done, I grew up on her albums and they're all fantastic.

A lot of her red carpet interviews are really funny too - when faced with sexist comments about going home with lots of men because she's dressed well, she gives a withering look and says she's going home to her cats.

GinJarRogers · 04/05/2023 21:51

I’ve found my tribe!
Can see I’m going to lose a lot of time listening to her earlier albums…
I also wish she would announce a UK tour soon

This. She's great.

Another relatively recent convert here!

Discovering Folklore and Evermore was a revelation to me.

I'm in my 40s and do get ribbed about my new obsession by teenage dd 🙄

JoanJettsMullet · 04/05/2023 22:07

She is fabulous. Fell in love with her when 1989 came out.

So many of her songs make me cry. Fifteen is heartbreaking. And Never Grow Up 😰

Pallisers · 04/05/2023 22:09

My 21 year old loves her and is going to her concert soon. Her lyrics are great. She is pro-choice, anti-gun, supports women (donated to Kesha), stands up to the streaming services when less wealthy artists couldn't. I also love how she just doesn't put up with shit - like the sexual assault trial, her pushback when people (mostly men) say she doesn't write her own songs.

doozledog · 04/05/2023 22:12

Always found her songs catchy but last year i discovered folklaw and omg i swear the album healed me, dramatic i know but very true!!

She's touring in the U.K. this year! Tickets to go on sale soon

WorkingOnOurNightMoves · 04/05/2023 22:15

I like her, both her music and attitude.

I do wonder how she would balance her pro trans views with her pro women/feminist ones though.
