My girls are 10 and 8 and really into Taylor Swift. I’ve never really listened to her music before but her lyrics are amazing, she’s so talented and I’m just so happy that women like her are here to be role models for my girls.

I have done the quiz and I am shocked
I got three wrong!

Verigio · 04/05/2023 22:18

@SummaLuvin 100% agree with you. She’s never done a bad album but Midnights is the weakest. Red was always my fave until Folklore knocked it off, and Reputation is number 3. She’s amazing.

Favourite song? Discounting All Too Well as I just assume that’s everyone’s favourite! It is mine! My second is Peace. The first time I heard ‘My coming of age has come and gone’ I thought, damn, this woman is our greatest living poet.

She's touring in the U.K. this year! Tickets to go on sale soon

It’s been 6 months since she said international date would be announced soon 😂

and yep, huge fan, since fearless came out. Love her lyrics.

Sweetandsourdough · 04/05/2023 22:22

I love her too. My controversial opinion is that 1989 and Lover are my fave albums, though I like Folklore a lot too, especially Exile
"You're not my homeland anymore
So what am I defending now?"

I think she is vastly underrated by virtue of bedding a woman - The Man sums it up.

WeWereInParis · 04/05/2023 22:22

Ahh my people!!

I do like midnights (see my username), but I agree she's done better albums. From that album I love Would've could've should've and You're on your own, kid.

It's too hard to pick my overall favourite song as it depends on my mood but some of the ones that weren't on the original Red but were on the re-release are great. I bet you think about me is probably one of my favourites.

Champagne problems and tis the damn seasons are other favourites. Along with all to well of course!

TheSingingBean · 04/05/2023 22:23

I’m old (60s) and I’m another one who has only just realised how magnificent she is, my OH thinks it’s hilarious that I’ve become a fan girl at my age 😂

Someone choose ‘The Man’ on a recent Desert Island Discs and it was the first time I’d listened to her properly. I’ve played it so often now I know all of the words off by heart. Utterly brilliant.

WhatWouldHopperDo · 04/05/2023 22:27

I have a weird thing with her. I love her lyrics and her attitude and what she stands for and her messaging. I just don’t really like her music!! I am a huge disappointment to my DD 😊

toastofthetown · 04/05/2023 22:27

My favourite song would either be All Too Well (original version, I’m in a minority would wasn’t wild about the ten minute version) or Coney Island, with an honourable mention to Would’ve Could’ve Should’ve. I also listened to Haunted earlier today, and that is criminally underrated (as is Speak Now as a whole).

EmmaEmerald · 04/05/2023 22:28

Has everyone heard this cover? I didn't know the original and loved this.
(mum says the original was Leo Sayer)

aperolspritzbasicbitch · 04/05/2023 22:31

All too well really is just something else though, isn't it?

Like, it's just gets you.

TheaBrandt · 04/05/2023 22:34

Love her. When Dd was having late primary friendship issues we listened to Mean and Best Day a lot - “one day I’ll be living in a great big city and all you’re ever gonna be is mean”.

“you’re on you own kid - you always have been”

Impossible pick a favourite
most listened to is Out of The Woods

that video really feels like life.

“you’re on you own kid - you always have been”

Definitely my song of the last few months.

SirVixofVixHall · 04/05/2023 22:36

I love her too. Dd and I were watching her earlier.

RelaxingClassics · 04/05/2023 22:39

Yaaasssss!!! I think she is wonderful. My 10 year old daughter adores her and I am very happy that she does. I bloody love her gumption.

P.s. I think the mega long version of All too Well IS the original version. The shorter version was the one her label made her put out. It's brilliant. Even if it made me hate Jake Gyllenhal.

Stumbleine · 04/05/2023 22:40

I'm particularly taken with 'The Lakes' this month. Just beautiful

CatMattress · 04/05/2023 22:44

Paper rings is my shout it put in the car happy song.

I am late 30s and got into T Swift when my then-2-year-old son got obsessed with shake it off 9 years ago. He's Iver it now, but my DD loves her and keeps talking about when we'll go an see her in concert. I'm not sure I'll be able to afford it, never mind being able to actually get a ticket.

I love the cardigan/betty trilogy from folklore (can't remember name of third song. Too tired). Folklore was my lockdown soundtrack.

Also I thought she was madly in live with the British rugby player but saw something on line today about her dating a musician. What's happened? I'm such a crap fan. I follow no fanzines or groups.

RelaxingClassics · 04/05/2023 22:51

Uch she split up with her long term partner about two minutes ago so I'd not pay any attention to any reports about her relationships.

EmmaEmerald · 04/05/2023 22:53

CatMattress "He's Iver it now,"

I like what you did there!

I don't pay any attention to her love life, but being a big fan of the 1975, I've also seen the latest rumour and don't think it's true. Wouldn't surprise me if they put it out there for a giggle.

blondieminx · 04/05/2023 22:55

she’s just brilliant isn’t she.

over on insta, the photographer John Shearer had some great pics of her US dates.

would love to take DD to see her live!

BornBlonde · 04/05/2023 23:35

10 min All Too Well is flawless Star

choirmumoftwo · 05/05/2023 00:20

Me and Dd adore Long Live and sing it to each other whenever she's home from university (tragic I know!). She also insists she'll never accept a marriage proposal unless Love Story is playing in the background!
I like most of her music but I do find the swearing on Midnights totally unnecessary. I only listen to the clean version. The lyrics are better without it and I'm absolutely not a prude generally. It feels a bit lazy.
We had tickets to see her at BST in Hyde Park in 2020 but then COVID happened. Eagerly awaiting UK or European tour dates.

ChiefWiggumsBoy · 05/05/2023 01:19

This is a really nice thread to read.

I'm not the biggest fan of her songs, just not my style really (although having said that I've only really heard the released stuff, I should try her albums), but she seems like a really nice person and I find it upsetting the judgement levelled at her from some corners.

I remember a few years ago when she was on Children in Need and donated a hefty lump of money. She didn't have to do that, for a British charity.

SummaLuvin · 05/05/2023 07:15

I need to really have a good hard think, but the more I listen to it the more I think Would’ve Could’ve Should’ve is the best thing she has written, the production on it is phenomenal too. Want to talk about heartbreaking, how about a song written 13 years later still trying to process and move past a manipulative relationship with an older man at only 19, where she breathlessly sings about how much she regrets it, the loss of her faith, and her girlhood. She is savage in WCS.

Agree with @toastofthetown upthread that a lot of people are sleeping on Speak Now, that album is full of bangers, people will realise when Taylor’s Version comes out. “Won’t finish, what you STARTED”. Long Live has such a special place in my heart.

TheaBrandt · 05/05/2023 07:28

“Soon you’ll get better - cos you have to” about her mums illness is an amazing song.

Also Best Day “I’m thirteen now and don’t know how my friends can be so mean” but she has a trip out with her mum and laughs until she “forgets all their names”. Honestly genuinely helped us through those late primary / early teen years - Taylor had friendship issues at 13 shows them can happen to anyone!
