I don’t even know where to start with your post. If you don’t get it and think it’s funny, I’ll leave you in that world. Probably nicer.

Where did I say I didn’t understand it? What are you even talking about

BornBlonde · 22/11/2022 19:55

Creepy and not funny

BedTaker · 22/11/2022 20:00

Appletreefarmyard · 22/11/2022 06:35

The whole thing is vile, on so many levels.

The 'we' get to be inside women and you don't element reflect males playing out oneupmanship based on accessing women's vaginas.

For me, It conjures up images of smugness as they have conquered territory that others have failed to access. I doubt any women, anywhere in the world, inserting a Tampax, would feel good that this act is affording someone a sense of superiority. This feels violating.

Yes, you have perfectly summarised the problem with this horrible tweet.

NooNakedJacuzziness · 22/11/2022 20:02

FML I'm glad I'm not on Twitter. What a bunch of immature assholes. Tampax should hang their heads

BedTaker · 22/11/2022 20:04

The women as 'them' in this tweet, while tweeting about getting into women's vaginas?

On a product specifically for women?

Yeah personifying a tampon as a dick. Lovely.

There’s always jokes on Twitter that go around saying, ‘You’re in her dms, I’m in her bed. We’re not the same’ or ‘You’re in her dms and I’m saved in her phone with an emoji. We’re not the same.’ Dumb things along that line. So Tampex were simply joining in on the joke… ‘You’re in her dms but we’re in her. We’re not the same.’

Really not difficult to get if you understand the running joke that’s on twitter

Tampax jumping in on a usually misogynistic meme / joke trend is not helping to make the optics on this better. In this case, they are the same.

Big difference between being in someone's phone and being in their vagina @ItsBritneyBitch45

IvyTwines · 22/11/2022 20:49

"Surely the majority of people following Tampax are women?" Are they? I'd be interested to know the ratio of followers and 'likes' for this - women and girls vs males who get their rocks off thinking about women using period products. The person who posted this tweet, and still hasn't taken it down despite the outcry from women and girls, is surely male.

What is misogynistic about the running joke? I’m genuinely asking as I’ve never found it misogynistic.

I also always see women saying the same joke about men on my TL. I personally don’t think every single thing needs to be labelled as misogynistic but maybe I’m missing a point

Fair enough. There are many things I don’t label misogynistic. There’s not enough space here to list them all 😀

My personal reason to find this type of joke misogynistic is because it’s based on the idea of levels of competition on who is closer to ‘scoring’ sexually with women. Women become the object of the joke. Object being the operative word. It’s very high on my list of the definition of misogyny. Aimed at men it’s not brilliant but men are not oppressed on the basis of their biology so I can’t get too worried on that front.

Have they even considered how this reads when you take into account that children use tampons? 10, 11, 12 year old girls???

Yup.
Creepy as fuck.

ScreamingMeMe · 22/11/2022 21:28

Pleased to see it getting backlash in the media now too.

Tampax’s Tweet
MarmaladeFatkins · 22/11/2022 21:37

shouldn't it be talking TO women rather about them? why is Tampax bragging to men about who is better at getting into womens vaginas??

ifIwerenotanandroid · 23/11/2022 01:50

MrsHMarsh · 22/11/2022 14:27

That’s what the meme means as well so I don’t know why everyone is flapping their hands on Twitter calling anyone that calls it out a terfy dinosaur.

From the tweets I saw, half of them think people are objecting to some association with Dylan Mulvaney (which I don't know anything about), & the other half think people are objecting to the use of 'their' instead of 'her' - neither of which appears to be true.

Meanwhile, there are men who think that anything that annoys women is screamingly funny & must be defended, & women who think that saying they understand it & find it funny shows they're cool. Meh.

I'm happy to report that I used Lil-lets throughout my fertile life, never Tampax.

And yes Charles and Camilla comes to mind. I just think it’s a really creepy misogynistic joke from Tampax.

There’s a particularly gruesome bit of The Crown where they dramatised the transcript of the Tampax phone call between Charles Windsor and Mrs Parker-Bowles.

I wonder if that’s influenced this Tweet?

It’s gruesome, whatever.

hamstersarse · 23/11/2022 08:08

I did rather like a comment on their feed that read:

‘congrats Tampax, you’ve managed to out creep the creep who was in my dm’s’

Sums it up for me

anonacfr · 23/11/2022 08:17

Bro 'humour' with tampons. Lovely.

It’s not exactly gruesome, it’s just stupid.

badbaduncle · 23/11/2022 08:56

They have a very weird view of their own product. Tampax are used by girls from age 9, how can this be anything other than utterly disgusting

Hmm fair enough. I don’t think it’s that serious at all but thanks for explaining

MrsHMarsh · 23/11/2022 09:43

Thanks to Britney I realise it’s not that serious ohh.

dudsville · 23/11/2022 09:50

I found the tweet hard to grasp and i want previously familiar with the meme, so i googled the basic structure of this meme style, and the result of that makes me think we're partially misunderstanding the tweet. The line "we're in them" is still so, so gross, but the 1st and 2nd lines of the structure of this meme are meant to show difference. So tras are in our dms. Tampons are in us, these two are not the same. I take that to mean these are two different things that should not be mixed up, and therefore a somewhat gross attempt to show that women have periods.

I’m not being rude but it’s not that complex.

The meme is basically oneupmanship.

An example in the real world would be

Hey Gary you geek you’re still busy messaging that hot girl Sophie? I was in her bed last night! Me and you are not the same Bro!

That’s it.

A big sanitary product company basically made a penetration joke about a hygiene product.

It’s all good, we were definitely needing another brick in the culture pyramid for this sort of thing. Let’s be accepting and let this one slide.

MrsHMarsh · 23/11/2022 10:17

Also take into account the subsequent tweets from Tampax saying they were saving that tweet and were after ‘violence’, why post such goady and defensive tweets after posting an innocent post?
