Am I misunderstanding how foul this tweet is? People seem to be feting them for it.

This definitely wouldn’t be better.

“we’re sliding into you”. Basically implying that by inserting a tampon it’s a sexual victory for all the frat boys at tampon US HQ. Disgusting.

I suppose it would be slightly better to direct the misogyny directly at the women rather than bragging to men about it. So maybe you’re right.

The idea that there are a load of immature men working at Tampax either giggling or getting off on imagining where there product ends up is so utterly repulsive to me. I feel just as violated as when some agp stole the sanitary bin from my work.

Amazing, the Tampax US Twitter account has over 20,000 followers. A large number will be fake accounts (as they are with any large Twitter account) but even so I am intrigued to imagine who would follow them and WTF you'd get out of it. (Maybe some special offers or something?). Looking at their previous tweets, it's a generally jokey, somewhat memey feed of nonsense, presumably aimed at younger people of any sex or gender who enjoy lame period jokes 🙄I assume their mission, as well as to flog tampons, is to destigmatise menstruation and present it in a more realistic way than their ads did in the past, where wearing white jeans and horseriding were basically mandatory during your period.

I can't see how this tweet does that, although if you're more au fait with your memes than most of us clearly are, maybe it's passably amusing. It definitely comes off like frat boy humour, in keeping with Twitter's new owner (who has posted what you could describe as erotica about Trump in recent days).

Making a painful, messy, have to put up with it female 'medical' body function into use our tampons it's fun, just like having sex, and we have penetrated you is so abhorrent and offensive. I cannot believe Tampax (who after all have been around along time and should genuinely be supporting women) have made such a comment. It's schoolboy, pub, football changing room 'banter' not a marketing tool. Vile.

Also, really patronising comments on there saying normalise vaginas etc don’t be embarrassed to buy tampax, erm I haven’t been embarrassed to ever buy them nor my female friends. Such smug patronising shit and they don’t even get the corporate cotton dick is laughing at them.

That’s exactly it @MrsDigbyChickenCaeser . It’s sexualising tampons. Gross, and disrespectful to women. Periods are bad enough without this kind of fetishisation.

I actually think all this shit is designed ti get us all back being quiet about everything.

Its not coincidence that as soon Women started to make progress in bringing stuff out into the open about periods and breasts and menopause etc that men and males git involved to get extreme turned it into a fetish that was given an openeas women could only have dreamed of and the options become either accept these hyper sexulised campaigns and advertising /endorsement of drag queens and fetishes or we go back to being quiet in order to at least keep this aimed at women, for women, by women and remembering that girls as young as 9 are involved here too.

I interpreted it to mean basically that you can't pressure someone into sex or sexual contact just because you believe they've already been 'tainted' - sorry I can't think of a better way to phrase that. That talking to someone doesn't give you rights over their body.

I think what they’re going for is ‘hey guys, you can only sexually harass women in their twitter inboxes, while we’re actually already inside their bodies, heh heh heh, so we’re better at it!’

I didn’t find it ‘haha funny.’ I thought it was more dumb than anything. It seems it was just a lighthearted joke. The fact that most people on this thread don’t even know what DM means and didn’t even understand the joke made it funnier to me. Some people want to be outraged and others don’t even understand what it means and still want to find a way to be outraged.

It definitely reeks of locker room, laddish , one upmanship which is made even worse by the fact that they're specifically addressing men.

A company that sells A product for women, completely ignoring women and using them only as a prop.

That's why it's so shitty. We're not even the punchline anymore (which is mysoginistic enough) , we're the prop in a pissing contest between tampons and men. Lovely.

There’s always jokes on Twitter that go around saying, ‘You’re in her dms, I’m in her bed. We’re not the same’ or ‘You’re in her dms and I’m saved in her phone with an emoji. We’re not the same.’ Dumb things along that line. So Tampex were simply joining in on the joke… ‘You’re in her dms but we’re in her. We’re not the same.’
