Rebel Wilson has had her first child via surrogate

Rebel Wilson (who I love) has announced via IG that she’s had her first baby via surrogate this week. Lovely for her to have a baby.

But the topic of surrogacy rears its ugly head and once again I’m wondering why so many rich and famous women choose to have a surrogate. Rebel has had significant publicity with her weight struggles and is currently in a relationship with a woman (she doesn’t name her as co-parent).

she hasn’t publicly said why she used a surrogate but I feel a bit uncomfortable by this as being a step yet again

Apparently she had fertility issues and no viable embyos

What's that got to do with using a surrogate?

Happylittlechicken · 12/11/2022 15:49

So she bought a baby, used it to get attention, then dumped it to go partying. Yeah, she totally sees this baby as a human being… not. Surely bonding with your baby, especially one taken from its mother at birth should be your first priority. That poor poor child.

No I don't. I don't think there's any excuse to use a surrogate. And judging by the way she's behaving, I'm guessing convenience was a huge factor in her choosing to rent another woman's womb.

Why does that mean she has to hire some other woman’s womb and purchase a baby? 🧐

You might as well explain shoplifting a tv with "apparently her TV had just broken". It's irrelevant what the reason is, there's no justification for buying a baby, calling yourself a mother and then hitting the town within a few days. Disgusting.

Anyone that can use another woman in this way and then feel ok to take the baby from the mother it knows, isn’t likely to have any idea what it requires to be a good mum. No shock she’s out partying. Selfish, entitled, clueless. Poor baby.

WingingItSince1973 · 12/11/2022 19:11

This is awful!!! So who is looking after this new baby? I don't know any new mothers that would leave their newborn to go out to party! This poor baby took away from her birth mum and then straight to babysitters! Meanwhile Rebel out boasting about being a new mother. Maybe she should act like one and stay home and bond with her. This just makes me so sad and angry at same time!

Delphinium20 · 13/11/2022 06:30

I hesitate judging women for their parenting differences, and often mothers ignore their own well-being and social life as most of us are overworked, underpaid and rarely have true equal parenting with our male partners...HOWEVER...leaving a newborn for hours for pure pleasure is really, really unthinkable for the majority of moms. My friend who adopted an infant was obsessed with making sure she bonded with DD as she assumed her baby was suffering birth separation trauma - she never left her side for years! For those of us who gave birth, getting a few minutes alone to shower seems like the greatest luxury. I would bring baby into the bathroom with me when DH was at work.

Hopefully baby has a 24/7 nanny who it can bond with and feel safe.

Rebel makes me think of those aristocrats who'd birth children, find nursemaids and then leave them for years while they lived at court. How is this any different?

Delphinium20 · 13/11/2022 06:33
  • For those of us who gave birth, the physical connection was intensified with our hormones. Back then getting a few minutes alone to shower seems like the greatest luxury.
caroleanboneparte · 13/11/2022 06:54

I imagine Royce will have a team of nannies. That's how celeb sprogs are raised.

But it's very tone deaf of her to announce a stolen baby birth then to be papped partying the same week.

I find it odd that the daily fail haven't commented on her rather obvious weight gain.

MrsJamin · 13/11/2022 09:27

She's getting a lot of shit on Instagram for this. Good I say. She's totally out of order. Poor Royce will be massively missing her mother, the woman who carried her for 9 months, and will be seeking comfort. Who she is comforted by now is who she is likely to bond with. Surely Rebel would be desperate for that person to be herself? It doesn't make any sense.

MrsJamin · 13/11/2022 09:55

Rebel didn't just go to one party on Friday! She also went to Leo DiCaprio's birthday party too! www.justjared.com/2022/11/12/leonardo-dicaprio-48th-birthday-party-guest-list-revealed/10/ Seriously questions should be asked about her suitability to be a mother!

Fattoushi · 13/11/2022 11:00

Buy an egg from one woman, some sperm, rent a uterus from another woman, buy yourself a baby, give it an awful name and literally 5 mins later leave it with babysitters and go partying.

How in the fuck is any of this legal?

EsmaCannonball · 13/11/2022 12:38

It feels very uncomfortable criticising a woman for partying when she has a newborn but this is part of the ethical problem with surrogacy as convenience. The rich buy all the upsides of having a baby and poor women take all the downsides. It would be one thing if they had invented a machine that gestated and birthed babies but somewhere there is a woman dealing with all the physical fallout from giving birth. Is she incontinent at the moment? Can she walk properly? Has she been advised not to lift anything? Is she looking at her stomach and realising she's never going to look good in a party dress ever again? Never mind, at least Rebel's got the money to make sure all that shit doesn't stop her having fun. It feels like something from the days of slavery.

Tbh I'm not particularly a Rebel Wilson fan. I was just repeating the issues she claimed she had in an interview. I was then explaining that's why she said she was using a surrogate. I don't agree at all with celebrities buying babies. It's disgusting that she "had" a newborn and was then out partying. What mother wants to so that.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 07/11/2022 17:24

No offence to anyone but it’s not ok if for medical reasons too.

Offence to me. Who are you to say what's ok and not? My cousin was born through altruistic surrogacy (friend of the family, no money swapped hands) due to medical reasons.

CrossStichQueen · 13/11/2022 15:22

My cousin was born through altruistic surrogacy (friend of the family, no money swapped hands) due to medical reasons.

I dont think the fact that no money changed hands makes it ok.
Womens bodies are not incubators for other people's wants and removing a child from its mother at birth for that reason is cruel.

MrsJamin · 13/11/2022 16:08

Would it be ok to buy a kidney for medical reasons, even if it were to save someone's life? No. So buying a baby cannot be justified for medical reasons.

Happylittlechicken · 13/11/2022 16:10

That is my argument @MrsJamin. If people can’t buy organs to save lives, why is it ok to buy a baby to satisfy someone’s desire (not need) for a child. No one needs a child to survive

'medical reasons' don't justify surrogacy, even so-called 'altruistic surrogacy'. Sometimes I think people just need to accept they can't have children. That sounds cold and cruel, I know. But imo, sometimes mother nature is trying to tell us something, and imo not being able to have/conceive/carry a child of your own does not justify using another woman like an incubator. Even if she 'consents' or not. It's wrong on every conceivable (pardon the pun) level, to use another woman like that. It sets a bad precedent.

Exactly. I'm not allowed to buy an organ even if I will die without it, but I can buy a baby just because I feel like it?

Galaktoboureko · 13/11/2022 20:41

I don't think I'd use a surrogate but I don't feel comfortable policing other women's bodies either.

Do you feel comfortable saying that vulnerable women's bodies shouldn't be exploited by other people though?

Because that's what we're talking about. It's buying and selling women's bodies as commodities.
