To “help around the house” he said.

That poor girl. And the other girls that have been sold or are in the process of being sold

Heartbreaking Sad

@EverybodyScream

I would starve to death before I sold my daughter to a life of slavery and rape.
and after you starved yourself to death your helpless daughter would still be taken into a life of slavery sex by some stranger. No change then.

It's terrible that people anywhere face such choices, but please don't insult them from your morally superior view point as a safe and secure Westerner who will never endure their conditions.

None of us know what we would do, however much we like to shout loudly that we do.

“Oh no trust me, I know I wouldn't do that.“

I imagine that’s exactly what many Afghan mothers thought too, until they found themselves in an unimaginable situation.
Unfortunately, the decision will not be theirs.

StillWeRise · 03/11/2021 20:54

The other thing we can all do is lobby governments for a permanent, supported asylum route for Afghani women and girls, with clear and safe access to visas. There should be no other qualification for asylum required than that you are a female from Afghanistan.
this- write to your MP and to the Home Office. Support your local refugee/asylum seeker support groups- welcome those Afghan families who are here and ask that they get moved quickly to permanent accommodation. Demonstrate that our local communities are ready and willing to welcome Afghanis so the government has no excuse not to take them.

Actually, I’d widen that out. One of the refugees Helena Kennedy managed to get on a flight was the son of a murdered female judge, who is now safely in Greece. His life was as much threat as, tragically, his mother’s.

JassyRadlett · 03/11/2021 21:01

Totally agree @StillWeRise that we can and must show how much we welcome them.

And ditto to @MrsSkylerWhite. That’s a really really good point and we should be looking to rescue as many people as possible from the persecution we enabled.

Thatsplentyjack · 03/11/2021 21:02

@MrsSkylerWhite, I don't know what you are struggling to understand. I would not do that. You can try and shout me down amd tell me I just might if I was desperate, but no matter how much you shout it I will still tell you, I would never sell my daughter to a paedophile.

Kittykat93 · 03/11/2021 21:04

Will never forget that video of that poor girl being taken away 😔 what a fucking world we live in.

Not trying to shout you down at all.

Asking you to try to put yourself in someone else’s shoes. You have 4/6/8 children, your brutal husband, suddenly enabled by a brutal regime, tells you that’s what’s happening and it does.

It’s not within your control.

GettingItOutThere · 03/11/2021 21:32

the best solution would be intercountry adoption, or a charity drive to remove as many young girls from this country as possible to the uk

instead of these young male immigrants, who frankly would not be sold to rapists

sitandwait · 03/11/2021 21:37

@beigebrownblue

Oh right, I'm the 'aggressive' one for providing a link that would actually do some good.

Get real. Get street wise.
Stop bleating on. Stop blaming other women (including me)
just do something to help eh.

Think I've missed the post where you said what you were doing to help.
SweetBabyCheeses99 · 03/11/2021 22:02

This barbaric practice is surely both a supply and demand issue? I feel like charities might be able to help with the supply side by giving families other alternatives to this apparent starvation vs. sex slavery dilemma, but what can be done about reducing the demand side? It’s like it’s not even seen as taboo or ethically ambiguous for men to buy child sex slaves? Is this purely a cultural difference? I know paedos and abusers are found everywhere but the majority of societies at least accept that it’s immoral. The West effectively colonised Afghanistan for 20 years but whilst it looked on the surface that they’d made progress, it’s clear that they are just are a few hundred years behind the rest of the world in terms of societal evolution and human empathy.

Instead of a UK charity that isn’t allowed to operate in afghanistan a grassroots one such as WAW might be better. However even WAW isn’t campaigning to end the types of forced marriages discussed on the thread (as it’s against Pushtun culture) - they are just looking to delay it (as Pakistan does) by convincing parents to educate their daughters instead. They also provide menstrual products to Afghan girls in Pakistani refugee camps - because without them they become a target for forced marriage.

Afghanistan invented the dancing boy culture. Boys under 10 don’t even get the dubius protection of Shariah marriage - they just get will sold to rich rapists until they get AIDS or get murdered by the Taliban.
stereeotype · 03/11/2021 22:39

It's sickening and I'm sorry, the family doesn't have to sell their daughter. I don't care how poor they are it's disgusting. Funny it's the girls being sold isn't it? If they had sons what would they do? They'd find a way wouldn't they.

stereeotype · 03/11/2021 22:41

@Branleuse

Why dont the parents sell their own arses before their daughters
Exactly this.
Littleducks · 03/11/2021 22:47

I think it is shocking and people don't know what to do. The charity linked to hopes to operate in future but isn't atm. Right now it's hard to know how to take effective action.

Where is best to send money - I wouldn't have thought sanitary products would be a place to start to help but another post suggests that makes a difference. It needs to be tackled appropriately, but people who understand the culture and situation.

I expect those people currently aren't able to do any work though.

PieMistee · 03/11/2021 22:53

You cannot judge the mothers in this situation. They will often have been married (sold or not) at 12. They will have absolutely no say in anything.
I used to know a wonderful Afghani woman who when I first met her was "married" at 11. She couldn't count to 10 in Pashto let alone English. No one had taught her. She had never been to school, handled money, got on a bus or a car, left the village she was sold to. On the day she gave birth to her first child (on her own and cut the cord herself) she had to cook dinner for the family of over 20 people.She nearly bled to death.
She couldn't leave the house unless a man told her she could. Her husband fucked off and left her with his vile family who treated her like a slave for 10 years. Only coming back to impregnate her. He eventually brought her to England where she found out he had another wife. He then threatened to kill her if she moaned about it.
If he wanted to sell his daughter she would have had no say. We can fathom the lives these women live.

PieMistee · 03/11/2021 22:57

Cannot!

Feelingoktoday · 03/11/2021 23:02

I wish that some of the posters on here would stop blaming the parents. Do you not understand what is happening there? Women have no say as described above. There are many children. The cannot stop their daughters being sold. They have no say. Starve to death but how do the rest of your children live? Let’s not blame the mothers please.

twilightermummy · 03/11/2021 23:06

What the hell is so wrong with certain men where they’d want a 10 year old girl? I thought this with the Cleo story earlier too. Let’s face it, it’s mostly men who want children. Is it their own pathetic inadequacies and their fears of not being “‘man enough”? Or are they just so loathsome and entitled that they think they can take it all?
I’m teaching my sons about equality etc in the hope that they will turn out to be one of the decent men in society.

In this situation, yeah the family disgust me but may potentially be desperate. I’m a bit ignorant to all the cultural behaviours at play here. At no stage could I ever even contemplate doing this to my daughter.
However, the man who wants a little girl is…well, I have no words. The older I get, the more I’m swaying toward bringing capital punishment back. Not that that would be an option out there of course for this crime.

stereeotype · 04/11/2021 08:07

What does the family do once the daughter is sold and the money from it is gone? They're going to find a way aren't they? So why can't they not sell their daughters?

Sorry but I cannot accept desperation leads to this, why can't people take some accountability for anything these days?

Had this family had sons, they wouldn't have the option to sell their daughters would they? They'd have found a way. Therefore, I struggle to have empathy for the decision to sell your daughter. Sorry.

I have complete empathy for the situation.c the poverty etc but the decision to sell your daughter is a decision, and A disgusting one.

What do you think would happen to your orphans?
sashh · 04/11/2021 09:03

@Libertaire

What do you expect in one of the most backward, barbaric and misogynistic religious cultures in the world?
As I pointed out on the other thread, a 10 year old can marry in many US states, it's not just the third world.

New York only made it illegal for a 12 year old girl or a 14 year old boy to marry THIS YEAR 2021.

No it shouldn't happen anywhere, but it does and we should stop assuming it is Islamic and/or 3rd world countries

Why do you think the posters are blaming the mothers only? These children have two parents. Are the fathers above approach?
