Noel Clarke sexual harassment allegations, suspended by BAFTA

🤬🤬🤬

Especially galling that BAFTA was seemingly made aware of this before giving him his very recent honour. I watched his acceptance speech and found it really moving in terms of celebrating a working class black man’s success in a historically white industry. Turns out he’s an (alleged) sexual abuser. Fucking great.

We can watch the final episode of Viewpoint on ITV Hub, according to this; it's not up yet but the previous episodes are:
@ancientgran I'm glad if it's true but given the paltry conviction rate so just doubt it's true, that all
These aren't cases from where I worked. I just thought you might like to know it does happen.

Horrible that they happened but I just thought you would find it a positive that even if you don't believe it happened where I work it does happen.

If your husband is a police officer even he would tell you alot of whay they do is based on instinct and a feeling that something isn't quite right.

Yes it's all like the TV.
Ohchristmastreeohchristmastree · 30/04/2021 20:00

I’m someone that I said that I’ve had a funny feeling about him all along.

However I also believe that he should absolutely get a fair trial. I am a little confused as to why this hasn’t been taken to the police (that I know of). Not quite sure why it was reported to the BAFTAs and not the police in the first instance.

QuentinBunbury · 30/04/2021 20:01

I'm proper laughing at the "let police do their job"
A lot of whats being reported here is so low level the police would be unlikely to do much about it. Imagine if they investigated every unsolicited dick pic. A chief officer in Birmingham has said they can't even investigate all the men alleged to have downloaded CSE due to resource constraints.
If he had been taken to court for one of these offences I bet he wouldn't have got a custodial sentence - that's if he got found guilty which is unlikely.

This is the kind of sexual harassment that women shouldn't have to deal with at work, the burden of proof isn't "innocent until proven guilty" in this kind of case. He was being extremely unprofessional and I'm very happy its been exposed by the press.

Hopefully now they've identified so many victims the police and courts will take it seriously.

bonfireheart · 30/04/2021 20:02

Haha @ancientgran I have worked as police staff for years and speak to officers across the country everyday 😄 you do know there's more people in the police than you and your husband?? We even say to the public "if something doesn't look right, report it".

JuneWind · 30/04/2021 20:04

Apologies if this has been said - got to page 10 of 19 and this started really bugging me!

People saying TV shows etc shouldn’t be pulled when allegations arise as it just punishes the other actors/crew - well maybe this is what’s needed to make the industry wake up!

So many scandals involving very high profile people - they can’t have acted without anyone knowing/questioning.

So if others are aware, and the risk is that they won’t get rewarded for their hard work because of the horrendous actions of colleagues - maybe this will be the kick up the backside they need to stand up against it from the beginning. I know it’s hard being a lone voice, so perhaps this will encourage actors/crew to come together and no longer accept this or pretend it’s just a part of the job...

@bonfireheart

I find the BAFTA thing strange, why not just skip a year and not give anyone the award or give it to someone else who was on shortlist?
They no doubt would have been accused of racism
SixesAndEights · 30/04/2021 20:06

I never liked him in Doctor Who, and my opinion has never changed. I haven't kept abreast of what he's been doing workwise, but when he made his BAFTA speech it messed with my head a bit because it felt so wrong.

Unsurprised by what he's been doing to women all this time. I read the Guardian article and the sexual things he had women doing on set are disgusting. How on earth did it go on so long????

I suppose people saw what happened to that other man who was bullied by him and kept their mouths shut.

QuentinBunbury · 30/04/2021 20:08

june thats an excellent point

FrangipaniDeLaSqueegeeMop · 30/04/2021 20:09

Very good point @JuneWind

FrangipaniDeLaSqueegeeMop · 30/04/2021 20:12

One young officer made the mistake of saying "You can't rape a prostitute." And the DCI made mincemeat of him in front of the whole team

That from a police officer is absolutely terrifying and is a deeply ingrained misogynistic belief. I don't think for one minute it was stamped out of him because of one bollocking from the boss and then carry on as normal. Why wasn't he disciplined for saying that?

Good. Hopefully now they’re taught You can’t buy consent.

Nightbear · 30/04/2021 20:21

I’m so sick of the ‘innocent until proved guilty’ people.

Nightbear · 30/04/2021 20:25

’I vehemently deny any sexual misconduct or criminal wrongdoing. Recent reports however have made it clear to me that some of my actions have affected people in ways I did not intend or realise. To those individuals, I am deeply sorry. I will be seeking professional help to educate myself and change for the better. ‘

Sorry, not sorry.

And in that thread he has written:

"My mother and wife know I respect women and so do I. I don't need this lots validation"

Does he really have such a lack of self-awareness?

LilacTwine · 30/04/2021 20:30

Oh so he is also one of those misogynists. What a surprise.

caramelsalted · 30/04/2021 20:32

Him and Barrowman always make the hairs on the back of my neck stand up.

The arrogance from both of them is a physical thing.

BackYardBetty · 30/04/2021 20:32

My mum & wife are my world, but the women I grope, proposition, threaten, embarrass, shame and abuse are slags.

One of those.

Tootsweets23 · 30/04/2021 20:32

Oh he's gone for the "seeking professional help" angle. I'd love to see what type of professional help is required to not do naked auditions with young female actors. Normal people don't require professional help to know that is fucking wrong.

TopBlogger · 30/04/2021 20:40

Why does he feel the need to seek professional help if he hasnt done any "wrong doing" or "sexual misconduct"?

AlfonsoTheTerrible · 30/04/2021 20:42

@bonfireheart

BAFTA couldn't skip a year simply because they had had allegations of sexual misconduct against one person nominated for an award. It's a big annual ceremony with lots of people nominated in different categories.

As far as giving it to someone else: there would have been an enormous scandal (bigger than the one BAFTA are currently facing) if they had not given an award to the person who was voted to receive the award, particularly as that person is black.

butwhatcanwedo · 30/04/2021 20:43

So weird watching that video because the exact same thing happened to me. At an event, talking in a group of people a man accused another man who wasn’t present of sexual assault. He acted out the assault on me to get laughs, it was mortifying but I guess we all laughed along in a totally shocked way. It eventually came to light that it was he who was the sexual abuser. Lots of allegations from women at work and also he was prosecuted for possessing the worst category of porn imaginable.

boireannach · 30/04/2021 20:44

@ancientgran. Thank you for gransplaining it all to us 🙄
