Noel Clarke sexual harassment allegations, suspended by BAFTA

🤬🤬🤬

Especially galling that BAFTA was seemingly made aware of this before giving him his very recent honour. I watched his acceptance speech and found it really moving in terms of celebrating a working class black man’s success in a historically white industry. Turns out he’s an (alleged) sexual abuser. Fucking great.

@DentonsFringeArnottsWaistcoat

And, as for the whataboutthemenz style, “What if your son was falsely accused of rape?” In 2021 it is still far more likely that my daughter, (and nineteen of her friends) will be sexually harassed, assaulted or even raped and still not be believed. So I know where my focus is thanks.
It's also far more likely your son will be raped than accused of rape.

But is mothers of sons should apparently be going about our life like there's a vindictive child or woman "cooking up" a scheme to accuse him.

FrangipaniDeLaSqueegeeMop · 30/04/2021 19:44

@ancientgran I'm glad if it's true but given the paltry conviction rate so just doubt it's true, that all

ancientgran · 30/04/2021 19:45

@FrangipaniDeLaSqueegeeMop

So do you think being a friends dad means you are safe from allegations? That is incredibly naive. I imagine most men in jobs like teaching/medicine/police would be just as wary off duty as on.

I think if a man is worried about his DD's friend making false accusation - which are so rare they're practically negligible - it says A LOT more about him than anyone else. What a disservice to little girls. The assumption is they'll lie - again, strong evidence this is rare - for the sole reason 'she's a girl and that's what girls do'. No I do not subscribe to the depressing "naive" stance that men shouldn't give lifts to girls who aren't their daughters

It says he is careful, thinks things through doesn't take risks.

My husband has arrested men who murdered women, what have you done to enforce the law and take dangerous men off the street?

Queenofbeebers · 30/04/2021 19:45

I was raped and anally raped by my ex husband.

Nobody believes me, not even my own family.

The first person to actually believe me was the claims handler for bupa when I broke down asking for a general anaesthetic for a colonoscopy I had to have last year. She was lovely and it has been the first time in 17 years I finally felt heard.

bonfireheart · 30/04/2021 19:45

@ancientgran I'm now beginning to suspect you are NC 🤣

Pinkearedcow · 30/04/2021 19:45

I don't think it should be for women alone to campaign to "change the system" (as if we haven't been doing that for centuries. The report in the Guardian is surely part of campaigning to change the system).

What also needs to happen is MEN need to take some fucking responsibility for the misogynistic society they have created and start doing something about it, collectively and individually.

bonfireheart · 30/04/2021 19:46

So sorry to hear that @Queenofbeebers x

Pinkearedcow · 30/04/2021 19:46

It is true. We had the most amazing DCI, he'd have been worth a TV series, he was also great to us civvies. Alot of police officers back then were very territorial and didn't like the move to civilianise jobs.

LilacTwine · 30/04/2021 19:47

ancientgran this is not 'someone having a funny feeling about someone?' and it's certainly not a lynch mob.

It is numerous allegations to the media from more than twenty women who have worked with him.

Detailed and thoroughly researched and published in a newspaper. There are photos he has sent with his name on them. Witnesses. It's not "dangerous" at all. It's how the media works. Everything would have been checked and run past lawyers.

And he's already claiming 'psychological problems' which is standard for people who have no other leg to stand on.

I am not engaging with you further but your comments here are appalling. Just stop.

bonfireheart · 30/04/2021 19:48

@pinkearedcow agreed, there will have been men who saw his behaviour, who were there when he asked a young actress to do a naked audition, when he touched them...and said nothing.

FrangipaniDeLaSqueegeeMop · 30/04/2021 19:48

People need to remember that those working in law 'enforcement' will never, ever, ever talk out against the system, unless it's to disparage women. It's disturbing how the culture in our authorities works, and the many police officers and civil servants working for the justice system will - despite well documented evidence - sing its praises til they're in the ground. They'll defend the man who arrested a woman for wasting police time after she continually reported her ex for stalking, all for that ex to murder her. In the victim's inquest the arresting officer said he did nothing wrong and he'd do the same again. This is their mindset.

It's a reason nothing changes. When Sarah Everard's murderer was arrested and it turns out he was a Met officer, I was sickened by how many Met Officers tweeted about poor them being criticised and how unfair it all is...not a word for their colleague or his victim. It's the reason such a shitty system works. So I'm just saying don't expect to sway the brainwashed.

ancientgran · 30/04/2021 19:48

Well I've been planning that for a long time which you will see if you look at my history.

SirVixofVixHall · 30/04/2021 19:48

@MrsTerryPratchett

Another one.

DH and I like to play, "which man would you actually be surprised about at this point". It's a really fucking short list.

He has David Tennant and I'm keeping Patrick Stewart.

So true.
FrangipaniDeLaSqueegeeMop · 30/04/2021 19:50

My husband has arrested men who murdered women, what have you done to enforce the law and take dangerous men off the street?

Your husband did his job?

I'm not a police officer but I do volunteer at a group for victims of sexual assault. Have done for 3 years, although there's been fewer sessions due to COVID, victims don't want to especially talk over Zoom about their attacks. So I don't do nothing thank you very much - no one is gonna give your husband cookies for being a police officer who arrests people

What is appalling about saying we should let the law do it's job?

FrangipaniDeLaSqueegeeMop · 30/04/2021 19:51

@Queenofbeebers I believe you

bonfireheart · 30/04/2021 19:51

Bore off @ancientgran.
No one needs to provide "evidence" for you.
No wonder women don't speak out when this is the reaction. Hope the Guardian doesn't drop this and this is a real time for change.

Women he protected appreciated him going the extra mile.
FrangipaniDeLaSqueegeeMop · 30/04/2021 19:52

What is appalling about saying we should let the law do it's job?

Because 'the law' allows 99% of sexual predators continue to walk the streets, continue to attack their victims and walk away Scot free.

Why should we tolerate such a shitty system as the only way to stop these men and get a bit of justice and closure?

FrangipaniDeLaSqueegeeMop · 30/04/2021 19:53

@ancientgran in sure they did - what's your point exactly? That because your husband made some arrests there's no culture of misogyny in the police?

Ohchristmastreeohchristmastree · 30/04/2021 19:53

@AlfonsoTheTerrible

I also had the same feeling after reading that whole article.It’s an addiction to sex but in a very extreme way. I’m trying to understand it but can’t. It’s awful but also intriguing.

It's not an addiction to sex; it's an addiction to power, which is totally different. If it were the former, there would be stories about Clarke visiting prostitutes / having affairs / cheating on his wife. The allegation are about Clarke revelling in his power (as writer / producer / director / screenwriter) over women's bodies and careers.

I dunno, he obviously used his power and probably liked that. And I get that a lot of people do these things because of the power thing, but he seems obsessed with sex.

I guess these wants for power and sex can run concurrently.

Pinkearedcow · 30/04/2021 19:54

I'm not talking about the women who have made the allegations, I was talking about the women on here who don't know him, aren't making allegations but had a feeling about him

I don't think those posters would have come on here and posted if, you know, there hadn't been a huge investigative piece of journalism published where 20 women had made allegations against him.

I find the BAFTA thing strange, why not just skip a year and not give anyone the award or give it to someone else who was on shortlist?

I was wondering that too.
