hi i haven't increased my dose yet i see doctor tomorrw

but i think i need to as 50mg is the standard dose as 25mg is what they start you on to minimize the side affects hopefully i don't go throug all the same side affects as when i started but i will let you know

Hi

I’ve got my fingers crossed for you that the increase in dose is easier on the side effects. You’d like to hope that the side effects will be less this time around.

I’ve been on 50mg for 8 days now. Most of the physical side effects have thankfully gone, but my mood is still a bit of a roller coaster. Just trying to remind myself that it’s all part of the process and hopefully leading to something much better.

Really appreciate this!
Day 13 for me today, and I’m pushing through the initial side effects. Looking forward to brighter days ahead.

My DD was put on Sertraline to help her with withdrawal from another AD. She became aggressively suicidal having never had that symptom before. Two serious attempts, ending up in A&E. She has since said that she spent her days planning her suicide and actively looking for ways and places to do it. It took two years for her to taper off Sertraline during which time she had awful panic attacks which still occur from time to time. She did a lot of research herself and found that suicidal ideation was a known side effect that has only recently been added to the contraindications.

Since coming off it she gets periods of despair and depression but has never had a suicidal thought.

I am very watchful now of articles where someone has taken their own life. Invariably Sertraline is involved.

ETA sorry, that all sounds very bleak but it is a real concern of mine how little doctors seem to know about this side effect. Keeping things in proportion, not everyone is affected in this way but it’s important to know if you might be.

My doctor increased my dose to 75mg last week, and after 5 days I’m unfortunately experiencing some of the side effects again.

Hopefully they settle down soon 🤞

I'm really sorry about what your daughter went through. I also found them to be horrendous for me and they somewhat numbed me too much. Quite a few other terrible side effects as well. I agree that doctors do not seem to inform patients of the risks and then they also seem to not have any awareness of these issues. SSRI medication can, and does, cause huge personality changes for some. I am really sorry for anyone who has gone through that. I am also not meaning this to seem as though I am trying to scare anyone reading this - apologies if I have

I’m sorry you also had such a bad experience with Sertraline, I hope you’re over them now.

I wouldn’t want my post to scare anyone but rather make them aware of things that their doctors really should. Their default position seems to be “not working? take more!” instead of “perhaps this isn’t right for you, let’s look at alternatives”.

Hi @NeatAnt, my DD stopped taking Sertraline because of the side effects. She was given Mirtazapine to help with the worst of the withdrawal- she didn’t find it helped unfortunately, I think if you’ve had issues with withdrawal from SSRIs it’s not unusual to find other meds don’t work either. She’s currently a month into no meds at all after a very slow taper, is having some quite difficult side effects, burning sensation in her limbs, panic attacks and feelings of dread.

She’s been through all of these before so she knows for certain it’s the withdrawal, we are managing it by being on the phone a lot, doing crosswords, watching tv together, just supporting really.

It’s so important to be able to talk to someone, loneliness is a major part of the condition, feeing nobody understands or cares. DD has found Mindline absolutely brilliant, they are so kind and non judgemental and they’ve heard it all before.

I hope you have someone to talk to, it really helps. We do video calls very often.

Try Mindline, I can’t recommend them highly enough.

I'm not an expert, but I thought that 50mg was the lowest effective dose. I would have expected you to do a fortnight on 25mg and then up it 50mg (which is what I did).

I've been on 50mg for over a year now and just feel normal again, no anxiety or twitchiness, which is great.

Speak to your provider and ask if you can double the dose. Mine kicked in very quickly once it was at 50mg, but I know lots of people who are on higher than this.

hi did you get many side affects when you increased your dose

As others have said that is a really low dose. It sounds like it’s ineffective at the moment, probably because of this. Most people start on 50. I did and am currently on 100. It’s changed my life, I really hope it helps you.

hi did you get the same side affects every time you increased your dose

Challenges with my MH meant 50 wasn’t really helping the same so I went up a dose for a bit then down. Currently up again as menopause is severely impacting my life! I’ll go back down a dose when I can but I’ll likely stay on it, it really helps me stay sane!

hi every time you go down a dose then go up a dose do the side affects come back
