Doctor has just started me on them.
Just interested to know if you have taken them and if you found they helped. Some of the side effects sound a bit worrying but I have taken them as I am fed up with feeling so low (have been now on and off for 3 years).

i was on 10mg for the first week. Just started on 20mg yesterday

amynnixmum · 20/01/2005 23:08

IIRC I was on 20 mg and had the same sort of side effects. Although I didn't really get on with these ADs I must stress that they did work eventually. It took nearly 2 months though which is why when the depression came back I decided to try something else. Also, because my anxiety levels increased it was hard to tell if the pills were working to start with. This doesn't happen for everyone though, my friend had just a few side effects during the first week or so and then she started feeling better. Sparkler, if you are feeling better already my advice is to enjoy that. It doesn't matter whether the effect is real yet or a placebo, feeling better is always good.

Not such a good day again today. Feeling very headachy and nauseas again. I had a really good few days too and thought things had improved.

Dh, bless him, has gone off to do the food shopping. I couldn't even find it in myself to write a shopping list. Far too much effort. Think I shall go grab an hour for a nap. Might help.

Hey Sparkler, are you gonna come to the meet-up?

SPARKLER1 · 23/01/2005 17:08

Hi Titania - how's things?
AMN haven't decided whether or not to go yet. Am just lurking around the threads for now to see what plans are made. I get quite nervous going to these things.

Am bursting to have a few glasses of wine. Haven't touched any since drinking that bottle!!! Did have a small Bailey's the other night though.

booked appointment to go back and see GP on Monday. Not sure if these tablets are helping or not. Thought they had for a couple of days but not so sure now.

Went back to see GP today. Has given me another months' supply of tabs. I told him that I didn't think they were helping me very much but he said it was still early days and to continue with them and go back in a months' time. He said I could increase the dose later if needs be.
Asked about counselling today and he is going to refer me. Has said that there is a waiting list for it though. Not sure if this will help or not. Worth a try.

When I saw GP the first time he told me that he didn't think counselling would help. His words were that as the depression had been going on for some time he didn't think counselling would benefit me. He said if it had started recently then he would refer me. Questioned him about this today and he denied saying it to me. dh was with me when he said it!!!!

It took me ages to start taking mine & one of the things that was stopping me, was the thought of no alcahol!!!
After a couple of months I did have the odd drink & it didn't seem to make much difference!
A friend of mine was on prozac & used to drink loads while taking them!
You have to give the tablets a while to kick in.
I think the councilling helps more though, as it gets to the root of your problems.
I was put on a waiting list & it took around 8 wks for an appointment to become available (through my surgery)

SPARKLER1 · 31/01/2005 22:15

I've cut down on my alcohol too - pain in the bum ain't it?? Hoping it will work wonders with my weight loss though!!! Have had a glass of wine tonight though as a treat.

OP posts:
SPARKLER1 · 31/01/2005 22:15

GP told me that the waiting list was a few months but not "lots of months"???????????

OP posts:
SPARKLER1 · 31/01/2005 22:16

..........whatever that's meant to mean!

OP posts:
blueteddy · 31/01/2005 22:21

A few months, but not lots of months????!!!!!
What is he talking about?!
I was told around 6 wks & it turned out to be 8 wks.
I ended up having 12 wks worth of sessions though!
Dont worry about the odd drink. I dont think it will do you any harm.

SPARKLER1 · 31/01/2005 22:27

I've not been very impressed with him so far. First with denying me counselling and then not giving me much info how long counselling could take. Am thinking about maybe changing doctors.

OP posts:
blueteddy · 31/01/2005 22:31

Is there only 1 gp at your surgery?
He does not sound very good.
All that rubbish aboutit being too late for counselling!
It is never too late for counselling, as they often go right back to your childhood.

SPARKLER1 · 31/01/2005 22:32

I thought it was odd - and I can't believe he denied saying it!

OP posts:
SPARKLER1 · 31/01/2005 22:32

There are other GPs in the surgery. Not sure how I go about changing though.

OP posts:
blueteddy · 31/01/2005 22:37

Where I live, it is not atall easy to change surgery.
Our surgery is the worst 1 in our town, but I could not change to another surgery.
Is your dh at the same surgery?
If he is not, you may be able to move to his surgery.

SPARKLER1 · 01/02/2005 11:36

We are all at the same surgery. I'm pretty sure it shouldn't be too complicated to swap over. I shall give him the benefit of the doubt. Will go back and see him in a month and see what happens.
