Hand hold for fluoxetine increase

overthinkersanonnymus · 06/10/2022 19:17

I'm going for it tomorrow. Increasing my 20mg to 30mg after 10 years and I'm absolutely terrified.

I'm going to run a bit of a diary on this thread to hopefully look back on and monitor my progression and side effects

Wish me luck!!

My anxiety is just how I'm wired I'm afraid

I am reading with interest.
I to am on fluoxetine.
But when I reported increased daytime anxiety, my psychiatrist added a daily mirtazapine tablet.
She did not increase the fluoxetine.
This worked for me.
Just mentioning in case the fluoxetine increase doesn’t work or side effects unfriendly. Perhaps similar combination might be worth your psychiatrist considering?

Hello cookies! So nice to hear a friendly voice!
Sertraline is really hard. I'm fizzy with anxiety and she's now given me diazepam to help with that. am very doubtful! is flouexstine this bad?

Bunnyfluffles · 11/10/2022 17:52

Sorry cookies just re read and see you are on citalopram. I had that for pnd. I think it worked? No idea I lost the plot. Sertraline is bringing all that back to me. Like you waves of anxiety dry heaves, feeling sick. It's not great at all.

cookies92 · 11/10/2022 17:53

@overthinkersanonnymus do you think getting out to work helps you? I'm the same, I've always suffered anxiety on and off. I have had waves of anxiety today too, defo worse in the morning. I feel horrendous in the morning tbh.

@Bunnyfluffles I had diazepam the other weekend as I was absolutely sky high with anxiety. It does help, but made me drowsy so not the best when you have kids. Are you going to ride it out with the sertraline for a few weeks and see if the side effects subside?

cookies92 · 11/10/2022 17:54

@Bunnyfluffles just saw your reply . Yeah its horrible and I feel worse in the morning. My sleep is awful too :(

overthinkersanonnymus · 11/10/2022 17:58

@cookies92 I don't have a choice to be honest with you, mortgage, bills, just the cost of being alive etc lol

But I think if I stick to a routine whilst I'm in a big state of anxiety, I won't go in to avoidance behaviour. If I go home because I feel safe there, I won't feel safe anywhere eventually and then what? I've been house bound by it before and I refuse to let that happen to me again.

Everyone around me convinced me I'd be ok on the increase because it's been in my system for so long. I wish I'd have trusted my instincts now. Hopefully that's just the anxiety talking and I'll get some relief soon

Feeling very sorry for my self 😂

@Discovereads welcome to our diary!

I don't know about the others but I don't have a psychiatrist, just my GP who is a bit vacant about the whole thing

I'm considering asking him for some diazepam or something to get me through.

Why are you so worried? I've been on various antidepressants over the past 23 years and had the dosage put up and down all the time. If I was struggling, I felt thankful that my dose was increased, not worried.

ZZTopGuitarSolo · 11/10/2022 18:12

Thank you for starting this thread. I'm not on Fluoxetine right now, but I do occasionally need it, and the first couple of weeks is generally horrendous. Last time my anxiety was so bad I was obsessed with thinking I was going to be arrested for tax fraud (I had not done anything fraudulent...)

I don't think I'd really realised it can cause such bad anxiety initially. I will know for next time.

Thank you. Happy to join the diary.
My biggest struggle lately has been the aripriprazole shortage.

That's nice for you. Totally irrelevant to the thread.

Bunnyfluffles · 11/10/2022 18:21

Cookies sorry to hear this. It's very very difficult. Doc said while you're in this state don't look for a job. ? That's why I'm in this state
Overthinkers, I think your allowed to feel sorry for yourself!

Bunnyfluffles · 11/10/2022 18:21

So nice not to feel alone

cookies92 · 11/10/2022 18:22

Should we set up a WhatsApp group? It might be easier than following a thread

Bunnyfluffles · 11/10/2022 18:23

That sounds good. No idea how!

overthinkersanonnymus · 11/10/2022 18:25

@Stroopwaffle5000 this is a thread for those of us who are having adverse side effects to starting or increasing medication.

We're worried coz we feel mentally unwell and unable to function properly because of said side effects but Thanks for your gloat anyway

@ZZTopGuitarSolo welcome!

Would mind sharing what symptoms you have when you go back on it and when you feel they're getting better?

OP posts:
Discovereads · 11/10/2022 18:29

So, because they had no 10mg aripriprazole tablets I had to fight with GP tell them to go through psychiatrist to get the 15mg ones instead of being put on 5mg ones. I had had my dose decreased before and had psychotic break throughs. So now starting on higher dose of 15mg twice a day instead of 10mg twice a day.

It’s very important to make sure your GP communicates with the psychiatrist (if you have one).

overthinkersanonnymus · 11/10/2022 18:30

@Pobble81 welcome to the hell thread 😉

Have you thought about trying an SNRI instead? Or one of the old school meds? SSRI are not suitable for everyone and if I don't get a grip soon, I won't be going on a different one. I'll be straight to the old school ones (I think) 😂

God I'm constantly checking this thread. Looking for some sort of relief. Anyone else?!
