I'm sat with DD14. She's taken 17 paracetamols after social media nastiness from girls at her school.
So worried. We got here within 30 min.
They've given her active charcoal. Has anyone had similar happen? Advice handhold please. I'm single mum and so worried. Xx

I pray your daughter has a full recovery ❤️
And those girls should be punished for driving someone to do this.

babymidgetgem · 26/06/2022 21:49

No experience or advice, but sending you lots of love. Bullies are vile, horrible people, I have been where your precious girl is.

nocoolnamesleft · 26/06/2022 21:50

The activated charcoal will hopefully prevent it all being absorbed. But they will still need to do a blood test at 4 hours after she took the paracetamol, to see whether she has absorbed enough to be harmful. If the levels are high, then she'll be put on a drip that helps her get rid of the paracetamol, and protects her liver from damage. That usually lasts for best part of 24 hours, then the bloods are checked again to see if the liver is happy, and thus the drip can be safely stopped. If the initial levels are fine, then she wouldn't need the drip. The initial focus tends to be on sorting the physical health side of things, and then it would be usual to involve CAMHS to try to assess risk/provide support, to try to stop this happening again.

It must be a terrible shock for you. But it's really good that you found out so quickly, so she could get prompt treatment. Thinking of you.

PonyPatter44 · 26/06/2022 21:53

I have sat in your seat many times. Our trust doesn't give active charcoal, they just put you on a drip. I am sure your DD will be ok, but it is so frightening and lonely, and I hooe you're doing ok as well.

Tinkerbellone · 26/06/2022 21:54

Thank you so much. Trying desperately hard not to cry. I am being smiley mum. I don't want to worry her more.
I have posted before about the crap she suffers at school.
I'm still in shock she's done this.
She is already having regular CAMH's support every week xx

Tinkerbellone · 26/06/2022 21:55

Yes I will call school. Thank you to everyone posting. I am so so thankful.
I'm NC with her Dad. I've texted my best friend and she's being lovely via text.

lancsgirl85 · 26/06/2022 21:59

My DD is a similar age to yours, OP. I can only imagine what you are going through. I'm so sorry. Hand hold here and hoping your DD is OK Flowers

MissingGrandstand · 26/06/2022 21:59

Flowers I so hope both you and your daughter are ok. Teenagers can be absolutely awful, and at that age should be well aware of the potential consequences of bullying, I'm so sorry your daughter has had to go through this.

You sound like an amazing mum if you are trying to be cheery for her, she will get through this and will remember in years to come how supportive you were.

Theoscargoesto · 26/06/2022 22:00

It’s great that you are there with her and you are being supportive: many people in my experience are not. She is in the best place for her physical health. I hope you can help her access some help for her mental health, to increase her resilience and to look at other ways to cope. I’d recommend that you look at the Childline site, and if there are delays getting support from CAMHS, which there often are, Childline counsellors can help enormously to listen and support in the interim.

I wish you both the best of luck. This must be really hard for both of you. I think it’s great she told you and you acted quickly.

snowmanshoes · 26/06/2022 22:00

Wishing you and your daughter the best. Some teenage girls can be just vile and I’m so sorry she has been on the receiving end of it.

Lookingforthecoffeerevels · 26/06/2022 22:01

I don't have any advice sorry but just want to send you positive thoughts. 💕

fluffynotebook · 26/06/2022 22:03

Oh sweetheart, a big hand hold from me and hope she makes a full recovery Flowers

MadisonAvenue · 26/06/2022 22:04

Oh your poor girl, and you too. Sending my very best wishes to you both.

UsernameFail · 26/06/2022 22:05

No advice OP but sending you both love and strength.

Musti · 26/06/2022 22:07

I am so sorry to hear this op and I hope she recovers quickly. More needs to be done about bullying. This is awful xx

My daughter did similar at 14.
It was devastating.
She's now 17 and is doing amazingly well x
Dark days but you WILL both come through it x
Sending so much love xxxxxx

Murphs1 · 26/06/2022 22:08

Thinking of you @Tinkerbellone . I have a nearly 14 year old and the shite they go through at school and via social media can be vile. You’re doing the best you can and I’m glad a pp has outlined what happens in these situations. Glad youve got cahms and friends support. X

altiara · 26/06/2022 22:09

💐 sending hugs.

firefly123 · 26/06/2022 22:09

Sending strength your way.

Tinkerbellone · 26/06/2022 22:11

We are just waiting now.
I'm so tempted to pull her out of school.
How can kids be so cruel. They seem to thrive of being hateful- like a pack of animals.
I don't know what school can do because this happened out of school- but it started in school and is because of peers at school x
