I’ve washed clothes most New Year’s Day because I didn’t know it was a thing not to. Nothing awful has ever happened as a result. It will be fine

It’s absolutely fine. I’m on my second load of washing today, it’s just another day. No truth in any superstitions at all

I don't as I read that stupid proverb on here years ago about not washing. I've just been thinking about it though and logically how can washing affect other peoples lives. I've done cbt so I'm thinking in that way

I do washing most days, including Christmas Day 🤣, if it needs doing then I do it, rather than letting it pile up.

I've only ever come across this superstition on MN. I have put a wash on every year on NYD with no ill effects.
You'll be fine. And the dog will have a clean bed.

Honestly I will admit to not liking washing on new years day when I'm not feeling good in myself but I didn't wash new years day in 2020 or 2021 and look how those years turned out!

Thank you everyone is not heard about this before only last year and then I put it in and I was look oh no todays New Year's Day and turned the washing off

Nope. It's a big superstition on Ireland. Had my mam been alive she would be ringing us all around to make sure we don't put the washing machine on!

I’ve always known it was a ‘thing’. I’ve also always known it’s absolute rubbish. I thought it was the sort of superstition that had died out with my grandmother’s generation.

Eh? Not heard this one before. I've done some washing, took the tree and decorations down, cleaned up and had a bath. Am I about to explode or be smited or something?

Yep I've changed the beds and thrown the bedding in the wash.

Oh it's a thing, if I told my mum I'm washing on New Year's Day she'd say I'm setting myself up for a year of drudgery. And I'd say how is that any different to any other year

Eh? We shouldn't? News to me! Our airers are draped with clean, damp sports kit and DH's work uniforms are now having a 60 degree whirl in the washing machine.

Got a load on here, too, and another lined up. Gets done when the basket gets full here!
