SAD/ feeling low in winter support thread

LadyCatStark · 15/09/2021 10:16

Hi all, after reading some unhelpful comments on another thread where someone is struggling, I wondered if anyone would like to join me in a SAD support thread for anyone who is feeling low now that winter is coming, whether you have a SAD diagnosis or not.

Disclaimer: I know anyone can post anything they like on a public forum but please, out of respect for those of us who are really struggling, don’t come on this thread to tell us how much you love winter, hygge, snuggling, hot chocolate or twinkly lights or tell us that we’ll feel better if only we change our mindset.

Please feel free to share your feelings, good or bad, tell us about your day or share tips for things that help (or don’t). Hopefully we can all help each other get through this winter!

Hope things get better for you @ShaneTwane. I’m feeling pretty crappy. It’s my birthday today and as he does every year, ‘D’H engineered a massive argument. He was determined to just pick and pick and pick at everything year he does absolutely nothing to help me. He just doesn’t get it! I shouldn’t have bothered, but I spent the whole morning before work trying to catch up on all the jobs he’s been nagging about. Now I’m out working today then we’re going out tonight but he’s organised what he would like to do for his birthday not what I’d actually like to do.

Happy birthday to you @LadyCatStark Cake! I hope you manage to enjoy the celebrations later on. Birthdays can cause a lot of pent up frustration particularly if you are always the one that put in the effort with others I find, and I've certainly felt like that over the years.

I've been thinking about you @shaneTwane, I hope things turn a corner for you soon.

It's my day off and I've spent the morning taking shopping to my mum and to an appointment. I'm home now and trying not to fritter the afternoon doing nothing. It's such a nice day here but I'm lacking motivation to do anything.

ShaneTwane · 25/02/2022 12:28

@LadyCatStark happy birthday! Sorry it's not going well so far :( hopefully you still get some enjoyment today.WineCakeFlowers

@Ulysses thank you :) hope you manage to do what you need to today. I also have a day off and no idea what to do with it. Unfortunately because I've missed a week of work I've not been paid and for some bizarre reason dp hasn't been paid from work and they said it will be sorted next month... This doesn't help us pay any of our bills though so it means being trapped in the house all month.

Ulysses · 26/02/2022 07:14

That's a real bummer Shane and I hope there's not too long a wait before it is resolved. Is your DP a bit better?

I hope you had a nice evening @Ladycatstark.

I did not get anything done yesterday. I've told myself to get going early to tackle some cleaning and tidying before I take DD to football. I am feeling lethargic though. Time for a Berocca!

LadyCatStark · 28/02/2022 22:29

Thanks @Ulysses. It turned out to be a lovely weekend.

We’re back down to Earth with a bump though today with the news that our gas and electricity bill is going up by over £900 a year in April 😵. I’ve tried turning the heating off but it’s soooo cold! With the cost of everything else rising, Putin’s nukes seem like the least scary option 😢.

Ouch! I try not to have the heating on during the day. DH suffers from the cold though so he's always cranking it on and up. It's frosty today so it will be on for a while this morning. It's light this morning at 7am and it was still light when I dropped DD off at football training last night around 6pm.

I've booked a long weekend for myself off work - childfree! It's a big treat for me. I need a loose plan of things I'd like to do though otherwise it will go to waste. One thing I am planning on doing is getting back to the gym.

Twobigbabies · 03/03/2022 20:29

Sorry to join so late but my SAD has hit its peak and I just found this thread. Anyone else peak in March? Managed to force myself to go for a run today but then felt fluey and had to eat not stop carbs all day afterwards! I'm wondering if planning a holiday in February next year would help..

ShaneTwane · 03/03/2022 21:12

Gas and electric prices are absolutely terrifying.

Welcome twobigbabies! A holiday sounds perfect!

LadyCatStark · 03/03/2022 21:19

All the price rises are so scary and stressful!

Welcome @Twobigbabies, I find my SAD usually peaks in February but so far March has been pretty minging so far!

How's everyone doing? Today was miserable weather wise! Pouring with rain and really chilly. It seemed to be more spring like a couple of days ago as well!

Ulysses · 07/03/2022 07:53

I hope everyone had a sunny weekend that they benefited from. It was such a tonic for me, I was out in the garden digging and cutting my climbers and shrubs back. I thoroughly enjoyed it and I'm fizzing with ideas for improving it.

It's a long awaited day off for me today so I'm off out to enjoy the sunshine some more.

LadyCatStark · 07/03/2022 21:29

It’s sunny here but very, very cold. It was frosty again this morning!

I’ve had a crap weekend as I had a massive fall out with DH on Friday night. He’d drunk too much and I’d forgotten to take my Sertraline for 2 days and I let something stupid get to me. I won’t make that mistake again and know that I definitely still need it.

Sounds lovely @Ulysses, can you come and do my front garden flower bed for me? 😂

OP posts:
ShaneTwane · 07/03/2022 22:59

Hope your ok @LadyCatStark :(

I have covid again and no smell or taste. So miserable:(

LadyCatStark · 09/03/2022 19:09

Oh no @ShaneTwane hope you’re better soon!

I’m sick of being cold! We’ve turned the heating off except for an hour in the morning but it’s cold inside, cold outside and I’ve noticed my families’ houses are much colder too so they must be doing the same thing. It sucks!

OP posts:
ShaneTwane · 11/03/2022 11:17

I'm now testing negative 2 days later! What madness is this. I'm not too bad at all like a mild blocked nose!

Tell me about it usually £5 would last us a week on gas an electric now we are blowing through nearly £10 a day how is this possible. We don't even have the heating on much because of the cost! We live in a small one story flat. :( I'm currently job hunting as I can't survive on my wages and DPS statutory sick pay. But least the warmer weather is closer now :)

LadyCatStark · 12/03/2022 15:41

That’s strange @ShaneTwane perhaps your body was able to fight it off quicker this time?

It’s crazy isn’t it? I think I’m getting used to being cold though as it was 18 degrees when I got up this morning and I didn’t even feel cold enough to put the heating on!

OP posts:
LadyCatStark · 16/03/2022 17:37

How is everyone? I feel seriously down today. I’m so sick of life 😭.

OP posts:
ShaneTwane · 16/03/2022 18:13

Oh no hope your ok! :( That sounds really tough. All is okish here. Not good or bad really.

Ulysses · 17/03/2022 08:10

I’m sorry to hear that too. We’ve got a few days of sunny weather to look forward to. And the clocks go back next week end so lighter evenings. I was feeling rubbish at the start of the week due to events but am more on an even keel now. It’s hard being a grown up isn’t it.

LadyCatStark · 17/03/2022 08:22

Thanks both of you, yes everything feels a little bit better when the sun is shining!

OP posts:
ShaneTwane · 20/03/2022 20:15

How is everyone doing?

Ulysses · 21/03/2022 12:08

I've had a stressful week - DH was in a car accident (he's okay, car is a write off though), my own car is in the garage needing a new clutch so £££, it's DDs birthday next week and I've got two school trips to pay for by the end of the month!

I could do with catching a break. What about you guys. Even the sun was annoying me yesterday as it brings out met very noisy neighbours. If I had spare cash I'd be investing in noise reducing earphones!

LadyCatStark · 21/03/2022 17:20

Oh no @Ulysses glad he’s ok!

I’m feeling a bit better thanks, the weather has been lovely and we’ve had a nice weekend. How about you @ShaneTwane?

OP posts:
ShaneTwane · 21/03/2022 17:59

Oh gosh I hope he is alright and you! What a shock!

Not a lot going on here just job hunting

LadyCatStark · 24/03/2022 10:55

Who else is loving this weather? I feel like a different person 🥰.
