Made a bet on a EURO “dead cert”. He gambled £1000 to win £100 and lost. He came to us and said he has a gambling problem. He is 26. His mental health problems have been going on for 10 years. I just dont know what to do anymore. We have been down various routes - GP, meds, counselling. He doesn’t change.

@Yespresh hey don’t worry ! no he can’t make any new gambling accounts .Even if he makes a new email adress, it won’t matter at all because he blocked his name and details from signing up with GameStop , as soon as he tries to register on a gambling website , he has to put his name and date of birth and address ect and they won’t let him sign up because he’s got GameStop block on automatically , he will get an error message , saying sorry your details have been blocked by GameStop and you have been unsuccessful . New email won’t make a difference at all .

New phone or new email address will not make a difference at all . It’s his name and date of birth and home adress that will get him declined when he tries to register a new account with gambling . He’s attempted registrations with gambling websites after signing on with GameStop will all be unsuccessful / error messaged.

ShareLove · 09/07/2021 21:49

@Yespresh there is not a thing he can do to sign up on any more gambling websites with GameStop in place . The only way he can gamble is when he actually goes to gambling shops or bookies . They don’t check your GameStop status , or he has to wait until he’s GameStop block is over , depending on how long you chose to have the block on . I myself chose 5 years maximum .

ShareLove · 09/07/2021 21:54

@Yespresh I had an addiction myself , and after I lost bit of money I got so fed up of losing and I signed up with GameStop straight away and I can promise you that now I cannot find any websites that will let me register after GameStop . if I try , then I get “sorry you have been unsuccessful “ message , so don’t worry at all about that .

FlyingBattie · 09/07/2021 21:59

Thank you but I presume he can just open a new email account and start again? I do t know

I'm not sure. But I cancelled the national lottery app and now it won't let me sign back up with the same postal address unless I call them. Maybe they have something similar in place?

Yespresh · 15/07/2021 17:37

Thank you everyone. We do seem to be moving in the right direction with our son.

I would say he is on the spectrum somewhere but doesn’t tick all the boxes

I know it is a long shot but have you looked into ADHD as one of the symptoms is addictions and it does have similarities to autism.

Yespresh · 22/07/2021 19:31

Thank you, i will look into adhd

Just an update if anyone reads this. My son has been diagnosed with severe ADHD, he now takes meds and no longer feels the impulse to gamble.

That’s great news OP. I hope someone else reads this who needs support to know things can change.

Robin233 · 18/06/2022 21:25

Notagain76 · 18/06/2022 21:27

Amazing, hopefully with the right medication and help things will carry on improving

Yespresh · 02/01/2023 18:17

Honestly that is brilliant im so pleased 😁.

TangledWebOfDeception · 02/01/2023 18:38

Oh this is such a brilliant set of updates. I'm very happy for him, and for you!

I think the havoc that ADHD wreaks in many people's lives is really very much underestimated. I'm so glad that your son has found his way through it with diagnosis and medication.

girlmom21 · 02/01/2023 18:40

Fantastic updates OP. I'm glad you're all doing well.

Wayk · 02/01/2023 18:41

That is fantastic news. Well done to both him and you. Wishing you a very happy new year.

BBCK · 02/01/2023 19:18

Great update. You must be so proud.

LazJaz · 02/01/2023 19:23

AMAZING! So happy for you and your Son!

Yespresh · 02/01/2023 19:35

Thanks all, we still have issues with his behaviours but he has a part time job he enjoys and is doing a broadcasting course which he loves. Hopefully he’ll start to become more independent in future.

Wow that's amazing OP. People on here are always quick to judge and dismiss those who suggest others could be ND - but it can be life changing if they turn out to be correct. I'm so pleased that he has got the help he so desperately needed.

What a great update. I hope he continues to do well. I also hope you are OK. It is very difficult to not blame yourself when your kids have troubles.

determinedtomakethiswork · 02/01/2023 22:17

That is such fantastic news. Thanks for letting us know. You must feel as though a huge burden has been lifted.

GurlwiththeCurl · 02/01/2023 22:23
