I cant do this anymore. I cant bear seeing my kids so unhappy. There is no hope for change. Even the samaritans wont take my call. Suicide is my only way out of this lockdown nightmare.

Your friend doesn't sound very supportive.

My kids seem depressed too. Lots of people are saying this about their kids.

It's not our fault.

WinWinnieTheWay · 19/05/2020 05:02

Your teacher friend sounds like a dick to be honest!

WinWinnieTheWay · 19/05/2020 05:03

Your kids are allowed to struggle with lockdown! It's just as weird for them as it for anyone else. Kids aren't stupid, they get that this is weird.

Can you get out with them daily for exercise?

Playdonut · 19/05/2020 05:04

I cant call the gp. I wouldn't agree to take antidepressants to try and drug myself into accepting a bad life for my children. Also, we have to protect the nhs. Unless you have coronavirus, they are REALLY not interested, no matter what they say.

Oh I see you're in London

You have friends. You have 2 friends who cares about you enough that they said not to send your youngest to school on June 1.

Given your situation they were wrong, but they care.

The Samaritans are overwhelmed, please don't take it personally.

I don't have a garden either - it's definitely much harder! But now we can stay out & sit in the park it's better. But I guess that depends where abouts in London you are?! Is there a safe park you can take the kids to?

I think lots of people will have the vaccine when it's available. Most people in the UK are pro vaccine & I think once it's explained how they've been able to make sure it's safe so quickly then people will have it.

missperegrinespeculiar · 19/05/2020 05:05

your teacher friend is wrong, it's a difficult situation, kids will be a little down, you can't magic it away, nothing to do with how good a parent you are, it's the same in all families!

Playdonut · 19/05/2020 05:06

Yes we go out every day but I cant replicate what their sports coaches used to do, so they are losing muscle definition. Also there is a limit to how exciting kids find looking at flats, houses and boarded up shops! We take the football to the park too, but I'm terrible at it and they get cross when I miss their passes

Talking about not impacting the train drivers while not thinking about how your children would cope with their existing depression + continued lockdown + a dead mother is sad. There's no suicide method you can pick that doesn't leave them feeling for a lifetime like they caused you to die. It wrecks kids. I have an ex whose father killed himself when he was a child and the blame he put on himself was hideous, especially because he was so young when it happened that he couldn't possibly have been the slightest bit to blame.

Nihiloxica · 19/05/2020 05:08

We have protected the NHS, it is not overwhelmed.

The new message is that the NHS is open if we need it.

Suicidal thoughts are a health emergency. This is why we have the NHS, for when we are sick.

Playdonut · 19/05/2020 05:09

I'm the most pro vaccination person I know and even I would prefer to take my chances then have it and I pay for the flu jab!

To be honest, I always gave my kids unlimited exercise after day 3 so the restrictions didnt make much difference.

Our parks are pretty safe now that the police have calmed down. Someone did try and steal my bag but he ran away when I chased him off.

WinWinnieTheWay · 19/05/2020 05:09

Please call the GP first thing, explain that you are feeling low and desperate.

People do care. Look at how many people have answered your message in the middle of the night!

If your tired it will make everything seem worse. What's your sleep like usually?

@WinWinnieTheWay normally I am an expert at sleeping! Can fall asleep as soon as my head hits the pillow

Playdonut · 19/05/2020 05:13

And yes thank you all for chatting to me in the middle of the night. Why are you all even awake? Xxx

Nihiloxica · 19/05/2020 05:13

I'll have the jab as soon as they'll me.

But it won't be that long. Things are already easing in London.

Your youngest can go back to school in a few weeks. That's a big step.

BestOption · 19/05/2020 05:14

My teacher friend said if the kids seem depressed then its down to my parenting as I am not doing a good enough job of making things positive for them

That's bullshit, it's one of the worst things I have read on here recently and I have read far too many corona virus threads!!

That's just wrong, stupid & nasty

What spirts do your kids enjoy? It's lovely to hear about kids who enjoy sports! My nephew (11) swims & has just started in the national juniors he was swimming every day (sometimes twice) bloody miles & plays other sports. My nieces play netball, dance and swim fairly competitively. The three of them are driving my sister mad as there's no release for all that energy. She's taking them running, but can't run far enough to tire them out!

Playdonut · 19/05/2020 05:14

It's going to break my oldest ones heart though. Both my little geeks love schools I have no idea where they get it from! And what if the weirdness of school puts him off education for ever?

OP posts:
Nihiloxica · 19/05/2020 05:15

I had a bad lockdown day yesterday and then I stayed up too late watching an entire season of Unforgotten.

WinWinnieTheWay · 19/05/2020 05:16

My sleep is awful too. I've never struggled before and it's sucks.

I have a little one and her learning is going backwards. I was really worried, but someone pointed out that it doesn't matter, she can catch up. I don't know what coaching your kids do, but they will be able to catch up. Remember that everyone is falling behind together and that your kids won't be penalised for it.

Playdonut · 19/05/2020 05:16

@BestOption their main sports are gymnastics and football. But they also enjoy ice skating, trampolining, golf, swimming and dance. I can so relate to not being able to run far enough. We did an 11km walk and then when we got home I had to put on a workout video to try and tire them out a bit!!

OP posts:
Nihiloxica · 19/05/2020 05:16

However weird school is, it won't be as weird as this.

And when the youngest goes back you and the eldest can have some time together.

Nihiloxica · 19/05/2020 05:18

Smile they sound very energetic

Playdonut · 19/05/2020 05:18

@Nihiloxica I hope you have a better day today.
@WinWinnieTheWay dont worry about their education, noone is really doing that much they are just lying that there are! My son spelt his name wrong the other day.

OP posts:
Playdonut · 19/05/2020 05:19

They are energetic. I used to think it was a positive thing. Now I'm not so sure!

OP posts:
Playdonut · 19/05/2020 05:20

It will be lovely to have some one on one time with my eldest. I just hope the school opens. It's an academy so it should do.
