Stopping sertraline after 3 days

Yvonne1988 · 02/05/2019 19:55

I know it's not long but I'm on my 3rd day and I just don't know if I want to keep on with it. I have constantly felt sick, dizzy, light headed .. gone off food .. starving but can't eat.
Can I just stop it after only being on a few days or should i take a half

What dosage are you on?

The first week is the worst, but do stick with it if you can, even if it means taking a few sick days to power through. It's honestly made the biggest difference to my quality of life (and my family's too I imagine!)

Roomarmoset · 02/05/2019 20:32

I've been on it for about 3 weeks and I do feel much better. The first few days can be tough but i feel less anxious now and I'm glad I persevered.

Yvonne1988 · 02/05/2019 20:49

I'm on 50mg. I suppose just because I don't even know if it will make a difference once I get through this awful feeling. If I do. I'm so shaky.

The side effects only last a week or two at the most. You'll soon see a real difference

Roomarmoset · 03/05/2019 20:31

How are you feeling @Yvonne1988

Yvonne1988 · 03/05/2019 20:33

I didn't take one this morning and I felt so much better for it. I still feel a little sick but I ate more today

I started on 50mg on Monday morning - had a horrendous night that night - diarrhoea, sweating and weak lying on bathroom floor, nausea, shaking. For the last 4 mornings I've cut tab in half, and taken half each morning. Although I still felt pretty rough I'm starting to feel better and less drugged now. The thing is I'm afraid to go back to full 50mg tab now and wondering will half a tab help my anxiety?

CurrentlyAWreck · 03/05/2019 21:01

OP I've been suffering paid attacks upon waking for 2 weeks, never had anxiety before only episodes of depression which I used to take fluoxetine for. GP put me back on it on Wednesday, took first tablet last night. A therapist I spoke to briefly when thing to find one said this was odd and normally they prescribe setraline but I've read fluoxetine is normal, maybe try this? Or shouldn't try setraline?! I'm a wreck every morning with upset stomach never had this before 😢

CurrentlyAWreck · 03/05/2019 21:02

Hahahahahah wish they were paid. Obviously meant panic.

CurrentlyAWreck · 03/05/2019 21:03

Oh deary me lots of typos. Meant to write "or should I try setraline" so sorry.

Eslteacher06 · 03/05/2019 21:04

Stick with it....it does improve! It can take up to 6 weeks to be fully in your system though

Dancer12345 · 03/05/2019 21:05

Try and stick with it. The start is horrible but it gets better. You could try taking it at night if that helps?

slipperywhensparticus · 03/05/2019 21:05

It improves after about three days Wink

Strongteaplease · 03/05/2019 21:08

I started sertraline 50mg three months ago. The first few weeks were terrible. I felt sick, upset stomach, exhaustion, nightmares, insomnia. My GP explained that I would feel worse before I felt better. Week 3 I felt so tearful and down that I considered stopping the medication. By week 4 I felt really well and have continued to feel well. My GP plans to reduce it to 25mg in July then I will come off it. Persevere with the sertraline .

CurrentlyAWreck · 03/05/2019 21:19

What are you lot experiencing to go on setraline? Have you always had anxiety what was it that made you seek help?x

Dancer12345 · 03/05/2019 22:42

Currentlyawreck I’ve had anxiety on and off for years and have tried many things. I was on no medication but then last summer my mood dropped dramatically and I was really low, crying all the time, felt horrendous, so was given Sertraline.

troppibambini · 03/05/2019 22:51

Stick with it if you can the first week is by far the worst.
Try taking it before bed to lessen some of the symptoms, but make sure you wash it down with plenty of water they really burn if they get stuck. One night I dry swallowed one and went to bed an hour later i was in sobbing as it had got stuck and had burned me.
That said for me they were amazing after a couple of weeks I felt so so much better.

Runkle · 03/05/2019 22:55

It will get better. Honestly the first couple of weeks are the worst. I take mine at night now.

Roomarmoset · 04/05/2019 07:01

I take mine at night and it seems to be okay at the moment.

@CurrentlyAWreck I had a baby in December and have PND, the GP gave me Sertraline to see if it would help.

@Yvonne1988 have you got a follow up appointment with your GP? If Sertraline isn't working they might suggest something else.

Yvonne1988 · 13/05/2019 16:50

So I stopped taking it and iv been fine but I don't know if I should carry on and try again. I don't have real problems like most people. I'm lonely. My boyfriend works away and when he's away I hate it. He goes to the pub and I can't stand it cos he doesn't talk to me when hes out. I just don't want to feel so sad all the time.

I wouldn't stop and start - that's the worst thing you can do. It doesn't sound like you've given it enough time. Have you put yourself down for some counselling? That might help.

Everyone's problems are individual to them so what some people may cope with, others can't. I'd look at self confidence and self esteem sessions.

At the very least think of hobbies, interests or meeting people so you don't have to rely on your bf as much. It will make him feel better too.

Offallycheap · 13/05/2019 19:06

Don’t stop and start. Try taking it in the evening for a couple of weeks.

And get a different boyfriend.

Yvonne1988 · 13/05/2019 19:13

My boyfriend isn't the problem. I am he's amazing. He just works away.

I have tried counselling in the past and I didn't take to it.. can't decide if I can try it again. I do have self esteem issues and I do rely on him. I don't really have anyone else.

I was thinking maybe try 25mg because I felt so sick with it

Honestly three days is nothing. I felt shite for 5 days and then the side effects mainly went, my appetite came back and it's fine now. You can't give up that quickly !

Yvonne1988 · 13/05/2019 19:50

@kittykat93 I know I think i panicked about it. My pupils dilated I was constantly nauseous and dizzy. I took a day off with it.. and there have been plenty of times I needed to be off more. I don't really have anyone I can talk about it with .. i didn't want to bug the Dr so soon
