I started sertraline 2 days ago and I am having a horrible time 🙁 I was hoping there might be others out there starting up too that would like to chat and support each other. I'm a lone parent and only have my mum.

Hi all. Does anyone else have ridiculous fits of yawning?!

Every day at around 6pm I yawn every minute or so for about half an hour. I'm not so tired though which is weird.

Hope everyone is ok today x

pieandmashliquornotgravy · 19/10/2017 18:55

I do sometimes, more at first. It is a side effect if you read the leaflet.

MrGrumpy01 · 19/10/2017 21:48

pie It might be worth trying then. I am thinking I need to be on something for the medium term at least, my stressors are still there and not likely to go (have a child with autism) so I think it needs to be much longer term for me.

Good Luck what ever you decide.

pieandmashliquornotgravy · 20/10/2017 10:17

Thank you. I reduced to 25mg last night and will stay on this for at least a week. If I need to go back to 50mg so be it. I know I am back to me but think some things that should have upset me haven’t and I don’t want to lose my emotions.

mummyvicki13 · 20/10/2017 14:32

Hey guys. Day 12 for me. Having a bad day and a bad night last night. Little one was sick and this sent me deep into my anxiety, now have the runs and dont dare eat anything coz i dont want them worse. Hope everyone else is doing good

Earlyriser84 · 20/10/2017 23:28

Yes I get periods of excessive yawning ! It's bizarre.

I got it today whilst working and it was quite embarrassing.

Nearly five weeks on 50mg i think it is now and the difference is really notable now.

Keep going. It has been worth the bad initial side effects

IAmBreakmasterCylinder · 21/10/2017 12:38

I am two weeks in now and feel the fog slowly lifting. I did masses of chores this morning and the house finally looks presentable!

That feels like a big achievement after weeks of doing the bare minimum. Off into town with DD (19) shortly. She's so supportive and lovely I can't help but feel better when she's at home.

MrGrumpy01 · 21/10/2017 18:54

I think the mirtazapine is well out of my system and I have hit rock bottom Sad the 50mg of setraline isn't enough to sustain me so I think I will need to up. I will have to ring the GP Tuesday though, they get a bit huffy if I ring on a Monday (surgery works on a call back system)

Tuttytoffee · 22/10/2017 11:35

Hi all hope you are well. I'm not doing too.bad myself. The anxiety has eased and I haven't got a constant feeling of it there in the pit of my stomach. I do feel a bit down or rather emotionless at the min. Not angry or stressed like I was but not feeling myself either. Hoping for a bit more change off these tablets but If this is all I'm gonna get I'll be happy with the change. I was just sick of shouting and being angry. Think it's day 20 ish for me so still early to tell I hope

MrGrumpy01 · 22/10/2017 22:09

tutty* Pleased to hear that they have started to make a difference. What dose are you on at the moment?

I'm all shouty again (ds who has autism has been very trying the last couple of weeks) so I know I probably need to up them, I am struggling to make decisions again which I managed to do when stable on the last meds.

Tuttytoffee · 23/10/2017 09:46

Hi MR, I'm only on 50mg. I've got 6 left in the 1st packet so I'll need to see the doctor for a review one day this week. I'm on day 22. I've been really anxious last night and today, I wonder how much time we should give it before thinking we need a higher dose. How many days is it for you on sertraline alone?

Tuttytoffee · 23/10/2017 09:49

also Mr I haven't even thought it could help with my terrible decision making. Someone will ask me a simple thing and I fall to peices. Every decision seems to important to get wrong that I panic. To be honest I'm still like that now. It never occurred to me the meds would help with that

MrGrumpy01 · 23/10/2017 20:41

tutty I am 2 weeks on just sertraline, when I was on the mertizapine I upped fairly quickly and I think that the lower dose isn't enough for m eat the moment.

I think my head was just clearer which made decisions easier, everything seems too much effort at the moment but with a clearer head I have more 'room' to be able to think things through.

MrGrumpy01 · 24/10/2017 16:20

Spoke to my GP. Been upped to 100mg and need to ring back in a month. I did say that I feel that I need to stick at them longer and make sure I am actually well rather than just being better than I was (but not actually where I should be)

kiwiinengland · 24/10/2017 19:52

Hi all,
Just found this! I’ve been on Sertraline for just over 2 months, starting on 50mg but I’ve just been bumped up to 100mg.
Has anyone else had worse side effects with upping a dose? Since starting 100mg I’ve lost my appetite and have barely eaten two meals a day, felt so sick, and had a massively dry mouth Sad
Please tell me it gets better!

pieandmashliquornotgravy · 26/10/2017 13:27

I’ve done a week on half a tablet daily and it seems like my repeat prescription has been messed up. Do you think this would be a good time to go alternate days then one in three? I feel fine. Thanks

Tuttytoffee · 26/10/2017 17:52

Hi all. Mr grumpy I hope the higher dose starts to work for you. I'm on day 25 so nearly 4 weeks in. I felt great really after 2 weeks but the past few days I've been very anxious, sweating lots and a very dry mouth. Still haven't spoken to my gp but I need to call tomorrow as I've only got 3 tablets left. I'm wondering if he'll up the dose or see how I go coz I did see some improvement after 2 weeks but that's gone now. I'm back to being snappy and moody again. Although it's nearly the time of the month too so that could be why. I don't know I kind of feel a bit down, I know I shouldn't but I was hoping for a change and to feel normal, whatever that even is.

MrGrumpy01 · 26/10/2017 22:14

tutty Sorry to hear that things aren't so good at the moment, it might be worth considering upping the dose, though even when I was on the highest dose of the mirtizapine I still had up and down days.

I have had a couple of days at the 100mg. Yawning a lot and feeling very nauseous (not helped by a car journey through the hilly countryside) but hoping that will pass.

WeeMadKillerKelpie · 26/10/2017 23:15

Tutty, it most likely is your time of the month that's causing issues. I am into my third month now and each time in close to a period, i get anxious and down again. See how things go after. If you don't pick up, see your gp.

It's OnlyGodKnowsWhy, by btw. Halloween name change.

Notsure999 · 27/10/2017 09:20

Hi everyone! Hope there’s room for one more also looking for a bit of reassurance. I’ve been struggling with anxiety and depression for god knows how long. Finally starting seeing a therapist in January which has been helping but I think I need something more to make real progress. I have 14 days worth of 50mg sertraline (which the doc gave me back in May) but have been putting off starting them.

I’m worried that side effects will stop me being able to do my job properly. I’ve just started a new job so I don’t want to take time off or underperform. My role requires attention to detail and lots of face to face meetings. I suppose the irony is that the anxiety and depression already mean I’m not at my best!

Anyway, I’m planning to start tonight so I’ve got the weekend to see how I react!

Best wishes to all the posters on this thread. It’s been really useful reading for me!

Tuttytoffee · 27/10/2017 11:42

Hi MR I'm expecting to have some good and bad days as that's life lol. I'm waiting for a call off my doctor to review. Plus I've only 2 tablets left. Weemad I'm hoping it is just the time of the month and I'll be back on track soon

Tuttytoffee · 27/10/2017 11:45

Good luck Notsure I felt really wired the 1st 3 days and then starting feeling much better apart from a few side effects that wasn't too bad. Every one reacts differently so you may be ok.

Marshmallow09er · 27/10/2017 13:28

Hello

Hope it’s ok if I join? I’m on day 1 of 50mg Sertraline (have gone in at that dose on GP’s advice, I hope he’s right rather than phasing up).
Took this morning - only real side effect is that I feel like I want to grind my teeth (like I’m on ecstasy), but nothing else.

Really hope it works eventually - I’m been struggling thinking I can cope for a while, but it’s got the point I just need a bit of a rest from, well me really! Certainly the anxiety, crying, quick temper etc.

Tuttytoffee · 27/10/2017 17:18

Hi marshmallow. Hopefully the side effects aren't too bad for you. They wasn't for me but looking back I did feel drugged up. It seems like yesterday I took my 1st one and it was nearly 4 weeks ago. I've spoken to my doctor and like you Mrgrumpy ive been upped to 100mg. I will start that on Monday once the 50mg run out. I told him I felt better after 2 weeks and now feel bad again. He explained that usually when this happens a higher dose is needed. I'm worried about whether it'll be too much for me but I'll give it a go. Dreading the side effects for dose increase. Hopefully I'll be like you mrgrumpy and not suffer too much

Marshmallow09er · 27/10/2017 17:42

Hey tutty

Hope it all goes ok for you increasing the dosage.

I’ve heard many good things about Sertaline - it’s nice to have some virtual handing holding while we get to the (hopefully) good part.
