I started sertraline 2 days ago and I am having a horrible time 🙁 I was hoping there might be others out there starting up too that would like to chat and support each other. I'm a lone parent and only have my mum.

Tuttytoffee - thanks for replying. When I was on them 6 years ago they worked a treat. It was for PND and I don’t remember any side effects. Maybe because it was a blur!
Lovelongweekends the insomnia is bad for me too. I’ve had little or no sleep and that is with taking sleeping tablets too.
I almost dread going to bed. I’ve been trying to watch Oprah aha moments when I’m awake during the night. I’ll try anything!!!

MrGrumpy01 · 15/10/2017 21:54

Love I have a little insomnia, which is strange after the previous mirtazapine would knock me out, so I am going to monitor that.

CMR Good luck and I hope the anxiety settles soon.

I am now a week on just sertraline (after a month on that and the mirtazapine) it seems ok, periods of quite high anxiety, but nothing I can't deal with. I am not sure what to do from here in terms of dosage, I need to ring the GP back next week. I think though with the mirtazapine I reduced too soon. I am now thinking that when I said I was 'better' (and could therefore do the 6 mths stabilising dose before reducing) I actually wasn't quite right I was just better than I was but actually still quite far off being OK. (I hope that makes sense) If I am totally honest I haven't been right since my 2nd was born and he is almost 10, so I think I struggle to know how I should actually feel like.

YogiYoni · 15/10/2017 22:09

Sorry that so many people are struggling today. One day at a time, one day at a time...

mummyvicki13 · 16/10/2017 01:12

You are all doing so well. We just need to take one day at a time and we are all here tp support one another, even if you just want to rant go for it. Keep strong everyone

Runninglateeveryday · 16/10/2017 06:56

I'm only on day 2 didn't feel sick yesterday thankfully but sleep last night was awful was tossing and turning till 3.30 then awake at 5.30 when does that settle down ?!

mummyvicki13 · 16/10/2017 07:39

Hi running glad your feeling ok apart from the sleep, im afraid i cant help you on the sleeping. I have a 5 month old that wakes a few times to make sure im still there. Keep going tho it could take a few weeks.

Tuttytoffee · 16/10/2017 09:16

Morning All. Just wanted to ask for the people suffering insomnia, when do you take your tablet. My doctor told me it could affect sleep so take it 1st thing. Before taking these I struggled to fall asleep at night as my mind was racing but in the 14 days I've taken them I've only struggled to sleep once which was last night but that was due to the fact my 8 week old has a very high temp. It's helped me sleep better. I don't know if it's anything to do with taking them at a certain time that could be affecting your sleep?

SpicedGingerTea · 16/10/2017 11:41

Good luck to everyone, I'm bowing out of this thread as my GP has conceded Setraline isn't working. I am so relieved.

Starting Citalopram tomorrow.

CMR21 · 16/10/2017 11:54

Tuttytoffee, I had been taking mine in the evening after dinner.
First night was the worst for not sleeping, sweats, major anxiety. For the past days I've taken them in the morning.
I have no problem getting to sleep but seem to be waking at 2am. And then every hour after that. I listen to some podcasts and doze off in between.
TrickyTreeLou - good look on the Citalopram
I hope everyone is having a good day Star

MrGrumpy01 · 16/10/2017 20:42

I have been taking mine in the evening as I started them alongside the mirtazapine (they have to be taken at night as they completely floor you) Didn't sleep great last night, woke up quite early and my mind was racing which it hasn't done since before I started the mirt last year. Managed to get some stuff sorted at work which was whirring so hopefully that will help - just have to hope this wind doesn't keep me awake.

Bluebell9 · 17/10/2017 09:04

I wish I'd found this thread a few months ago! I'm on 50mg Sertraline and have just swapped to take the tablet in the evening and I'm finding it hard to get to sleep, I think I'll swap it back to the morning and hope that helps.

onanotherday · 17/10/2017 12:14

just got mine today...will take this evening as I have an important meeting this afternoon....it's so nice to know you are all out there to hand hold as I'm a single parent and worried about holding it together for dc's.

mummyvicki13 · 17/10/2017 21:33

Day 9 and bit of a bad day feeling a bit sick and very anxious. I had a coffee for the first time in 2 weeks so i dont think that helped and had a stressful meeting that probably didnt help either. Hope everyone else is doing good.

Tuttytoffee · 18/10/2017 08:27

Day 16 for me here. Been a bit of a strange couple of days for me. Had a bit of news in the family that made me terribly anxious and questioning everything and over thinking things. Nothing even related to me but I can't get it out of my head. Having said that even though I've felt anxious I've also felt calm with it which doesn't make sense at all lol. It's just occurred to me that I haven't cried once in 16 days. I normally cry a lot. I don't feel great right now but I also don't feel terrible either. I know it's only early days so I'll just keep on plodding on. Hope everyone is getting on ok here.

LunchBoxPolice · 18/10/2017 13:12

Can I join?
I have been taking Sertraline 50 mg for over a year. 3 weeks ago increased to 100mg, then this week increased to 150mg.
I'm having horrible side effects and can't sleep. And I feel even more anxious. The gp said that is a side effect that will wear off, has anyone else had this? I am a single parent and feel so horrible, I need to be better

Fairydust26 · 18/10/2017 13:59

What time do you take your tablet? I found taking it just before I went to sleep meant I slept through most of the side effects hope you feel better soon!.Smile

LunchBoxPolice · 18/10/2017 14:26

I take it in the morning on gp's advice as it is effecting my sleep. Hopefully the worst is over!

mostlymindblown · 18/10/2017 17:43

Day 1 of 50mg here!
Took it this morning and have been feeling OK so far. A bit manic this morning, suddenly mega drowsy mid afternoon, and now massively craving a glass of red 🍷
Grin

Am going to resist, as no idea what the night might bring

IAmBreakmasterCylinder · 18/10/2017 17:48

Hi all. I'm on day 11 of 50mg.

Side effects have been jaw clenching constantly and a bit of nausea. I am also completely shattered but sleeping better than I have in ages. I take it around 8.30pm.

I had a dreadful day yesterday, very anxious and tearful but better today.

Looking forward to a week off next week and planning to start exercising as I know it will help.

CMR21 · 18/10/2017 21:41

So many of us all going through the same symptoms etc.
It's reassuring in some ways, as I really thought I was losing the plot.
I'm on day 8, still bouts of massive anxiety, which is not like me at all.
There is a lot going on, work wise, finance wise etc. But it's like I've lost my confidence with work, I doubt everything I do, I'm nearly afraid to open an email.
For me my panic starts and I can feel a burning at the back of my kneck. I have no appetite really, and am down 1/2 stone since I started.
Hope you are all doing good.

MrGrumpy01 · 18/10/2017 23:04

CM I hope the anxiety passes soon for you. I understand where you are coming from.

I swapped today to taking it on a morning (so I skipped last night in effect) I slept ok and wasn"t drowsy in the day, which was good as I was in a fairly important (and actually very interesting) meeting this afternoon.

itchywanksocks · 19/10/2017 10:46

Cm you sound just like me. I went two weeks without refreshing my email, luckily I’m on Maternity leave but I nearly missed out on a new job opportunity.

Day 7 here, the sickness is mainly gone and my sleep is better, although DD was poorly and ended up in my bed last night which kept me up instead.

pieandmashliquornotgravy · 19/10/2017 12:16

Been on 50mg since August. I actually feel quite good again. Due for review November but I want to come off of them. Intend to try either half a tablets or alternate days. Obviously if I feel bad I know to stop. Am I stupid trying this?

MrGrumpy01 · 19/10/2017 17:35

pie the advice is generally that you stay on anti-d's for 6mths after you feel well, so it is probably still a bit early.

I was on mirtazapine a year and this is week 6 on sertaline.

pieandmashliquornotgravy · 19/10/2017 18:21

Thank you. That’s what Gp said but I know what tipped me over re the depression and it’s been and gone. Surely no harm in trying.
