Not an expert, though this is a medication DP takes. Why are you scared of the increase?

IRuthBolirsUhbniuzsDH · 24/09/2015 09:21

Hello love, please don't worry. I don't know much about ADs but there a loads of people here that do, and someone will be able to advise you xx

Hey,
You will be ok Flowers
I've been on sertraline for 10 years. Had to adjust doses many times depending on how well I coped with life in general.
25 mg is not a huge increase. However, I've always done it gradually. So I would take 50 plus 1/2 of the 25mg for example for a few days before increasing to 75 iyswim.
I felt this was kinder to my body and helped me tolerate better the side effects that a dose increase comes with. I have experimented a lot and this has worked best.
I promise it will get better!

charley30 · 24/09/2015 09:25

Thank you for your kindness both of u

I know it's hard but it will get better and increasing the meds will help long term! I know DP really struggles sometimes but it is a stepping stone to a better place.

charley30 · 24/09/2015 09:28

Do u mean I cud take half of a half with the 50 I was thinking of doin that is it ok to try I want to take it now I'm on here and need support

Btw, back in the day, when I had this abysmal fall when I couldn't see how I will ever get up and live again, nomorepanic - the forum, helped more than anyone and anything.
Give it a try if you haven't yet.
There is a light at the end of the tunnel, good luck!

charley30 · 24/09/2015 09:31

Just wish I was braver

OP posts:
wtfih · 24/09/2015 09:31

Yes, that's what I used to do. Increase it gradually. So cut 25mg in half and take 62.5 for a few days and then 75.
Do you have a pill cutter?

charley30 · 24/09/2015 09:31

And not so scared all the time just want to feel normal again

OP posts:
charley30 · 24/09/2015 09:33

No pill cutter but will try Iv already cut the ridge in middle so have 2 50s

OP posts:
charley30 · 24/09/2015 09:33

Sorry ment 2 25s

OP posts:
wtfih · 24/09/2015 09:35

Your last line made me smile.
That's all I used to say, for a very long time, "please let me be and feel normal again"
And I promise you will be! I'm still scared and worry a lot compared to other people, but I cope better with it. You will too, it's just a phase and it will pass

charley30 · 24/09/2015 09:42

Glad I'm not on my own and have the support here then I'm not mad just sad do you think I should cut the half to a quarter

OP posts:
PeaceOfWildThings · 24/09/2015 09:51

Sounds like a good move, to increase gradually. You could cut it into quarters, for today, and ask your gp (by phone call) for lower dosage pills for this, and if you have a regular pharmacy nearby, they might be able to pick up the prescription, make it up, and deliver it to you. If not, it is worth getting that all set up when you are feeling better. You will feel better. There might be times in life when you are unwell again certainly, but you are doing the right thing.

I am on thyroid meds and anti depressants and I am feeling like a much younger version of myself!

charley30 · 24/09/2015 10:00

Thank you no 50 is the lowest dose so I'd have to cut it into quarters is it ok def to do this

OP posts:
charley30 · 24/09/2015 10:08

Sorry for needing sooo much reassurance

OP posts:
wtfih · 24/09/2015 10:19

Yes it is.
I know it's hard but try to think about it logically for a second. You are upping your medication and rather than going straight for the 25mg increase with all the side effects that brings (which, at 25mg are really not that bad), you are halving that dose to give your body a chance to get used to the increased amount of sertraline that it needs to process. If you are scared about taking 25mf extra you should be less worried about taking 12.5 extra.
I've been on 200mg, your dose is really not that high.

charley30 · 24/09/2015 10:26

Thank you it's so hard to think logically wen you're feeling like this which is why I panic but I know you're right I should at least try

OP posts:
charley30 · 24/09/2015 10:28

I know you're there with me so I'm going to try

OP posts:
wtfih · 24/09/2015 10:35
Smile You will be fine, don't worry, it's a very small dose increase. Better to do it now, early in the day. You don't want panic setting in in the eveningFlowers
charley30 · 24/09/2015 10:39

Yes I always take in the morn please let me be ok

OP posts:
wtfih · 25/09/2015 09:00
