Just that really. If you want to self harm what do you do that means that you don't do it.

I've tried pinging a rubber band, talking to Samaritans and setting a timer. What else can I try?

Whatever it is, thank fuck for good therapists! I remember the moment I realised that I couldn't kill myself because my parents would never get over it. I was so devastated I cried for hours.

And now I'm SO glad I didn't do it. There were some big risks, some strokes of pure luck and some parts I might have done differently. But now I've got MY LIFE.

Cheers. Wine

CaulkheadUpNorth · 11/11/2014 20:14

The idea that at some point I may feel like that has made me cry. And I can't even have any bloody wine because of the new meds!

Small steps yeah, small steps.

Definitely small steps. Small steps still get you somewhere. And I think that getting the right therapist is a bloody big step. Starting this thread was a pretty good one too.

CaulkheadUpNorth · 11/11/2014 21:40

Totally. This thread is super-helpful. Thanks :)

Thanks to you too, I'm getting a lot from it as well. Think I'm falling asleep now though so see you tomorrow. Night.

CaulkheadUpNorth · 11/11/2014 22:09

So pleased to hear that. Sleep well.

i think sometimes we think its not possible to actually challenge those triggers.

have a restful night

EmpressOfJurisfiction · 12/11/2014 13:22

I did thanks, Caulks. Hope you did too.

CaulkheadUpNorth · 12/11/2014 19:58

Hello :)

Anyone there for a bit of giving me a bit of a kick? Or reminding how much I don't want to do it? I have a blanket and nice food and all the lovely things that are lovely but I want to DO IT NOW.

OP posts:
PiperIsOrangePumpkins · 12/11/2014 20:17

Why not every time you feel the urge knit a square and put it in a box. When you have enough squares then put them all together to make a blanket.

The bigger the blanket gets you will have a visual of hope many times you have achieved not self harming.

CaulkheadUpNorth · 12/11/2014 20:31

Ooh I like it. I'm knitting hexagons at the moment to make a blanket so that might work.

OP posts:
EmpressOfJurisfiction · 12/11/2014 22:34

That sounds like a great idea.

sugarcoatedthorns · 13/11/2014 08:01

so good to hear! Lots of knitting getting done instead, well done you. You must feel good abouut that.

EmpressOfJurisfiction · 13/11/2014 19:35

How's it going, Caulk?

CaulkheadUpNorth · 13/11/2014 19:45

Today is ok. I was massively triggered by a conversation with the "best" friend and then another with the parents and gave myself half an hour to buy something to use to hurt myself and I DIDNT.

I still want to, but managed to think about what I need instead. Talk about a huge step!! How are you?

OP posts:
EmpressOfJurisfiction · 13/11/2014 19:50

YES!!!!!! Good on you!!!!!!

I'm sprawled on my bed with my laptop at the moment, and it's 50/50 whether I'll fall asleep or get some coding practice in.

CaulkheadUpNorth · 13/11/2014 19:51

Ooh do the coding. I'm teaching myself coding atm.

Actually at this actual moment I'm watching "can't pay we'll take it away" and eating yoghurt.

PiperIsOrangePumpkins · 13/11/2014 22:53

Really proud of you.

CaulkheadUpNorth · 13/11/2014 22:55

Thank you. I'm having the 11pm panic where I'm awake and know the world will be better if I do it, but have read through the thread and reminded myself it actually won't be.

OP posts:
PiperIsOrangePumpkins · 13/11/2014 23:00

No the world needs you, I can see you developing an app that people who self harms can use to get through the urge.

PiperIsOrangePumpkins · 13/11/2014 23:01

My anxiety is also playing up. Panic attack are the worst.

I need to take my knock out pills but got dd aged 5 awake.

CaulkheadUpNorth · 13/11/2014 23:05

How long do they take to knock you out? Can you snuggle somewhere with her for a bit.

I do a lot of the thinking brain stuff to help with the anxiety (less of an issue now as changed meds) which helps. Like looking at the colours of stuff and counting.

I would love an app like that. There is a brilliant eating disorders one but I've never found a good sh one. Sadly both things for me are very triggered by other people so I can't think about them at all when they aren't a problem or I start doing them all over again Confused

Around 30 minutes.

Nytol and zaplain combo. I know I shouldn't abuse Otc sleeping tablets but it works and I get a decent night sleep.

CaulkheadUpNorth · 14/11/2014 09:38

Another morning waking up not having done it. Hurrah.

sugarcoatedthorns · 15/11/2014 14:24

Lovely news Caulk.

I hope DD went back to sleep Piper so that you could get your precious sleeps.

Its good to know you those triggers Caulk as you can challenge the reality.

and you answered yourself so beautifully, the world is a better place with you in it, definitely, yes.
